OK, this REALLY is the last one. I had a bunch of requests for “what I’d pick for investment pieces” for home/fashion. So here are my picks – explanations below:
- My new Heirloom emerald cut band– diamonds and tourmalines. This is the newest piece in my collection and I own this and am OBSESSED. Comes in all diamonds as well, as an alternative to a traditional solitaire engagement ring
- Original art- a piece of original art is always a wonderful gift/ investment for your home that has meaning and longevity. This piece is by Kayce Hughes (I have a commissioned piece like it in my living room)
- A thin diamond tennis bracelet is always a classic!
- I have heard from several people that this coffee machine is THE way to go if you are serious about your coffee.
- A Chanel bag– this caviar leather wallet on chain bag is perfect for nights out when you don’t want to hold a clutch.
- A Burberry trench– another staple that will never go out of style.
- The Cartier Just Un Clou bracelet– I wear mine every day. It’s much more comfortable (in my opinion) than the Love bracelet. And a little funkier too.
- Antiques! Special pieces that make your home unique and add some patina.
- My Heirloom studs– another piece I designed to wear everyday (and do).
- William Yeoward crystal– something you would not normally buy yourself, but you can always “register” for this and people can buy you a glass or two for special occasions or holidays. My mom has this pattern and it is so beautiful and restrained.
- I LOVE LOVE LOVE these Devon Woodhill lockets with diamond custom monograms!!!!
- Another “register” type long term gift item- china. I do not have fine china, and I kind of want some (this pattern to be specific) now that I have a big girl dining room. :)
- A Moncler coat is such a great investment if you live in a cold climate- SO warm! And now made with faux fur accent instead of real fur.
- The Chloe Marcie medium handbag– I have had this bag for years and it still looks brand new despite the hell I put it through. A true classic with no logos or trendy bits.
- Hermes reversible belt– a belt that is both black and tan and a total forever item. A little flashy, but not in your face.

Stocking Stuffers/ Secret Santa
We get it! You’re very, very rich. Diamonds are your bffs. There’s a tad more to the holidays than Hermes this and Chanel that. That you think $100 gifts are “budget” just confirms how out of touch you are with the average American (me!). I’ve read your blog for years but it has become so look at me! me! me! of late with hardly any interiors content. And then you complain about not feeling happy. It’s insulting. Thank you, from a long-time reader. But I’ve hit my limit. Warm wishes to you and yours.
Wow, what a horribly mean comment. I hope you find some happiness.
Ditto! I’ve purchased her books, rugs and earrings and when I politely disagreed with her on our 2nd ammendment rights, she blew up at me and deleted me from her Instagram page. Simply put, she’s not a nice person, and I only do business with people I like. I’m done here too.
Disagreeing with someone and arguing your stance is not “blowing up”. And I must have blocked you because you were incredibly rude, NOT polite- I only do that when really feeling threatened or someone is outright disrespectful or incredibly insulting. I’ve never blocked someone who politely disagrees. But you and the person above continuing to follow me and then coming on here to post mean comments like this….? Now that speaks volumes about you, not me. I wish you the best.
Truly, truly, truly never understand the impulse to type in angry, hurtful words to another human being. I have never commented, and this post is too rich for my blood so I enjoyed with my eyes and was going to move on. But after seeing this I have to apologize for this person. No matter what another person’s wealth, blog post, social media post, or personal situation makes you feel on the other side of your computer screen, it was NOT DIRECTED AT YOU. Erin is a human being just living your life. If you don’t like what you see, you can move on without hitting out at her on the way out.
Sorry you have to deal with this, Erin. Hope you know how ridiculous and small it is and don’t let it affect your Holiday.
Best to you and yours.
living “her” life….
I love these ideas! I’m a hardworking mom but sometimes indulge in a few “classics.” Love all the suggestions and have my eye on a few of these. Keep up the good work, love your blog and Insta! Happy holidays!
I’m wondering if you have any trouble with pointy end of the Just Un Clou bracelet catching on sweaters? I love a good bracelet but find some seem to snag on my clothes. Thanks and Merry Christmas!
I was worried about that too, but I have had only a couple issues, nothing regrettable. :) It’s something I will wear the rest of my life.
What is the brand of the coffee machine? The link no longer works
It’s a Jura, I think. Sur La Table carries a lot of their line.
I love this post. True investment prices that will stand the test of time!
I love all your gift guides, Erin! I can’t imagine how much work goes into producing these. Thank you for everything you share with us!
Thank you and you are welcome!
Love your gift guides and while I cannot afford most of these investment items, I still love looking at all of them- a girl can dream! On the other hand, I am saddened to read such ugly comments. Don’t conflate money with happiness- it doesn’t work that way, and you never really know what is going on someone’s life, so be kind. Happy Holidays and keep posting Erin- your blog remains one of my favorites!
I can’t afford a lot of them too. People assume SO much. Yes, I have a few of these but no Chanel bag, Burberry trench, $3k coffee machine…etc etc. Don’t get me wrong, I am blessed, I have some nice things, but work hard for it (and have friends who make fun of my “tight purse strings”. If people really wanted to get the big picture, they’d see all my other gift guides are moderate- this is called “INVESTMENT” for a reason and was done because people asked for it. Not because I would ever ask for or expect a freaking Chanel bag for Xmas- but some people can! And good for them! Hating on other people’s success or lucky or position in life like these comments do, is just such a sad way to live.
If anyone were truly a long-time reader, I think it would be obvious just how hard Erin has worked to get where she is. Does she appear to have a larger accessories budget than the average American woman? Sure. Would I read the average American woman’s style blog? No. This post was upfront about being “investment gifts,” and it met that task perfectly. I bought that trench coat almost 20 years ago, and it has outlasted every coat in my closet, making its cost per wear far lower than a $200 coat I’ve only worn a few times. I’m unlikely to buy any investment gifts this season, but I enjoyed the luxury window shopping!
