One of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time has been Only Murders In the Building – there’s something about it that is just happy (even though it deals with murder!) Since the guys on the show all have pretty amazing apartments, I thought it would be fun to dress up Mabel’s apartment from its current state of disrepair. Things I noted about the character that fed into my decisions: she’s pretty modern, dark, likes fashion, music, art, textures (all her coats!), rich yellow is a color I associate with her (again, her outfits) and she has a moody air about her. Of course I’d leave her mural on the wall, so I pulled some colors from that too. These are all exercises that help us figure out how our own clients will respond to things we propose too (your closet is a great place to start when trying to figure out what you are naturally drawn to color and pattern-wise!)
Who else shall I do a Pretend Client room for?
Hello, are you able to publish a link for the wall mural? Thanks.
This was a super cool post! Loved seeing a different side of your design
You are so talented. I loved everything you did! I really enjoyed this post. So fun! I am sure “Mabel” would love it, too!
What’s the paint ‘Wall Color’? Great room!
Didn’t mean for you to re-do my house specifically, just intended to give an example of a space.
Pretend client room for an in-law suite. Many Grandparents and extended family live away from each other. Visits can be for a longer time–requiring more than a guest room. I know a few families who have relatives come for the summer from India, Florida, etc. Last summer I was in a cast for 6 weeks and my best friend came to help out. Our house has a suite on the back of the house- sunroom/hallway, 1 small bedroom and 1 larger bedroom with Jack and Jill bath in between. Also could incorporate some ADA elements for caring for elderly parents.
Fix all of the homes in the Sex and The City series.
Nailed it!
This is SO yummy
Star Wars room for my son. I cringe…
Sam Obisanya’s new restaurant.
Love this post so much! It would be cool to do wildly different rooms – like a Euphoria teen, a Game of Thrones type room, White Lotus hotel suite??
Not for nothing I had a lot of fun decorating my friends house according to his astrological chart. May be fun to explore with your pretend clients!
On my! That sofa is everything.
You have totally captured Mabel’s style. Love your choices. Very cool vibe.
Such a fun idea!! I love what you chose!
How about Anna Delvey?
You should definitely do a dorm room!
Yes!
YES!!!!!!
Love this. How about Emily of Emily in Paris??
You nailed this one!
Love seeing this more modern, funky side to your style!
