Do you know what’s the most fashionable things of all right now? GIVING A DAMN.
This week has nearly done me in- bad news after bad news and the feeling that reality is twisting and distorting into something I don’t recognize. But we have to fight, as tired and scared as we are. So for today’s fashion post- ACTIVISM, but make it fashion. :) In little ways, just wearing something that declares to the world what you believe and what you are fighting for can feel good (and most all donate a portion of sales to causes fighting the same fight!)
Click images for links except those noted below.
Followed you from the beginning you are a talented designer but sad to see you being an activist. What about the little child’s right to be born ?
Erin, great post and I’ve loved how vocal and passionate you’ve been on social. To those who disagree with a woman’s right to control her own body, this is not your place to celebrate. Women celebrating other women losing rights is disgusting. Stop with the conspiracy theories. Stop with the “states rights, this isn’t the civil war and we all know what that was really about. This is about the few trying to exert control over women, especially lower income women who will be unable to travel to get a safe abortion. You can be pro-life for yourself, but forcing your beliefs on others is the opposite of what America was founded on. So stop your celebrations and actually go do some good in your community.
I also saw this https://www.shiffonco.com/collections/shop-all on Meghan Markle and a portion of the proceeds go to female entrepreneurs or the Women in Sports Investment fund.
Erin, when I said “I didn’t know having kids ruined your life”, I wasn’t referring to you specifically (I know your story and know better) but was referring to your comment in general that having kids could “ruin someone’s life.” I reread my response and can understand how you would interpret it that way. I apologize for that misunderstanding. I was surprised you would think corporations would have a women’s best interest over their own. I’m not the only one commenting for prolife. I believe history will be kind to us bible-thumpers, as you call us. We were on the right side of slavery too.
I have been following Erin’s blog for many years. I am much older than Erin but I enjoy her blog. Although I disagree with her on this particular issue, I don’t believe she means to be rude or disrespectful. That doesn’t seem to align with her character, A law cannot change another person’s heart in either direction. If the foundational belief I have that abortion is wrong is based on my faith in God then I cannot expect someone who doesn’t agree with or follow my beliefs to agree with me. In the same way, I am not going to change my beliefs because the rest of world tells me I am wrong about it. Even though the law tells me this is permitted, I am not going to believe it is right because I don’t derive my value system from what the rest of society or the laws of this nation tell me is right. I don’t want to “Bible Beat” but just would like for us to have an understanding about our foundational differences truly coming from a concerned and loving place. Babies are so miraculous.
First trimester: key stages
The first trimester begins on the first day of your last period and lasts until the end of week 12. This means that by the time you know for sure you’re pregnant, you might already be five or six weeks pregnant!
A lot happens during these first three months. The fertilised egg rapidly divides into layers of cells and implants in the wall of your womb where it carries on growing. These layers of cells become an embryo, which is what the baby is called at this stage.
During this trimester, your baby grows faster than at any other time. By six weeks, a heartbeat can usually be heard and by the end of week 12, your baby’s bones, muscles and all the organs of the body have formed. At this point, your baby looks like a tiny human being and is now called a fetus. He or she will even be practising swallowing!
Life begins the moment the two cells fuse.
By the time you find out you are pregnant there most probably is already a heart beat.
People sometimes think they are being kind to women to allow abortion, but babies are not the only victims of abortion. The majority of women suffer emotional distress the rest of their lives after an abortion. They may suppress it and pretend it’s not there, but a mother cannot kill her child without something dying inside of her. And that is something that only God can heal.
Is a baby only a miraculous wonderful little person only when it is “wanted”? Isn’t a baby a miraculous wonderful little person-to-be all on its own regardless of our feelings about it?
P.S. I agree with the poster who stated that this is Erin’s blog. She is free to post her opinions and thoughts and I for one appreciate her gracious attitude of allowing those with differing ideas to post on her blog. God Bless you Erin and I hope you have a wonderful day.
While I appreciate the tone of this comment, it’s very confusing. You say that you don’t think others who don’t “follow your beliefs” to agree with you- so do you support the overturn of Roe? Because you are stating two very different things here.
Where is this study saying “most women are tormented by having an abortion”? Also, to me, life does not begin at conception, you are free to believe it does and not get an abortion- but now those that don’t agree with your belief cannot exercise their own belief. So why, in a country based on freedoms, is your religious belief now my law? I believe everyone should be vaccinated- do I expect that to become law? No- because I believe people can make decisions about their own bodies. And can I ask, where you stand on the lack of exemptions for rape and incest? Because that is NOT something to sweep under the rug, it’s akin to (no, IT IS) child abuse.
Actually, I would hope that we’d be living in a country that allowed her to make her own decision about her body. That is what I am against- the inability to make our own choices, not the actual choice itself. You think I would MAKE my child get an abortion? You think the pro-choice movement is PRO- abortion?! NO, we are pro CHOICE to have one or not. And I’m not spewing vitriol, I am reacting to other women telling me what I can and can not do with my own body because of their personal religious beliefs and spreading false information on my platform. I’ve been called horrible names, told I’m evil, etc etc so yes, I am going to defend myself and my position and my role as a mother. And yes I’m going to call out bullshit arguments- this is personal.
I have a question, Erin… Hypothetically speaking, what would happen if Emma came to you one day and told you she was pro-life, i.e. “anti-choice”? Would you call her names and belittle her too? Would you also tell her “your argument is bullshit and I resent you thinking your definition of “moral” is the only definition. But that’s what is so fundamentally wrong with the anti-choice movement”? (You wrote that the other day). What if Henry’s wife felt the same way? I ask because everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, but it’s just plain mean to name call and criticize others in order just to get your point across, yet, that’s exactly what you did the minute any of your readers expressed one that didn’t match yours – you spewed vitriol. Perhaps you forgot that many of those same readers bought your books, stood in line to have you sign them or simply supported or prayed for you when you were on your arduous journey to getting pregnant with both of your kids.
Hi Erin,
Very well stated. Picking up on your last point, She’s 10 is trending. Check it out, just in case anyone else feels the need to pontificate about how 10-year old victims of abuse need to undergo even more trauma or has any lingering doubts about what is right and wrong.
Hi Erin,
Personally my agreeing or disagreeing with Roe doesn’t really have anything to do with abortion. My agreement with the overturning of Roe has only to do with states rights vs. federal. I disagree with the principal that the federal government can come in and usurp states rights. I do not believe in forcing anything I believe on anyone else and I hope they would extend that courtesy to me. Local communities are so important. Many of us choose where we live based on local community so it’s important for local communities to have a strong voice in how they live. I would prefer to change minds and hearts rather than laws. That is how real change happens. I would rather our time and resources be used to help women who find themselves ashamed or afraid in an unplanned situation and be supported along with their children. I don’t think any woman makes these decisions lightly. Women should be given all of the information and support they need in a difficult situation A lot of our laws are based on “religious beliefs”. How do we decide what is right or wrong? Who gets to decide? These are questions for the ages that philosophers have been debating for centuries. We cannot steal or murder or destroy property, etc. without legal repercussions. All of our choices come with consequences. I do not have all the answers to this dilemma. There must be a source of Truth or we are all just making it up as we go along.
“Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, 5 never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. 6 It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out.”
Erin, you are a lovely, intelligent, caring young woman and I wish you much Love.
“When you want to help people, you tell them the truth. When you want to help yourself, you tell them what they want to hear.” ~ Thomas Sowell
You need to take seat Gail. Read the room- you can’t come on here spewing your rhetoric and not expect to met with feverish backlash and then start calling me names and saying “my kids ruined my life”???? Are you kidding me? This is a community of people who are upset because YOUR religious beliefs are being forced upon us. There are PLENTY of women in the states that have banned abortion whoa re terrified and helpless because of an absolute INSANELY hypocritical ruling. I hope you are out today protesting against our dangerous gun laws, since you are so invested in saving human lives. But something tells me you aren’t.

Something to think about on the value of being a woman. Women are special because they carry a child. Something a man can’t do, although the left will try and convince you differently. Why do you think corporations are willing to pay for their employees to have abortions? They want them back to work and don’t want to pay the medical expenses for pregnancy. Wake up.
Wake up gail!!! you have been brainwashed to uphold the patriarchal system. take a stand for women to have equal rights as men or you will regret it. be thankful that women with a platform are willing to risk everything to speak on your behalf because you too deluded to realize just how wrong you are.
So much to unpack here! Let’s take it from the top, shall we?
– No one is forced to have a child.
Yes, you are, if you live in one of the states that has already outlawed abortion altogether. Unless you are a person of means, you are trapped without resources to travel to another state to get help. Some states are even looking at passing legislation to make it illegal for women to go out of state for an abortion.
Let us remember that this issue is not about saving babies, but about controlling the nation’s poor. Let us also remember that those very same people who want babies to be born at all costs are the same ones who are against having universal health care, paid maternity leave, resources for daycare, etc., i.e. anything that would make it easier for the women who have these children.
– For someone who is a public figure and sells products, you are very rude and disrespectful and I guess only your opinion matters.
Well, this is her blog so, yes, here she can freely express her own opinions and can say whatever she wants.
– I didn’t know having a child ruined your life.
Your sarcasm, knowing full well the struggles that Erin has gone through to have hers, is obvious. Having children is indeed wonderful. But you know what else ruins your life? Being forced to go through with a pregnancy that is unwanted, and not having the right to control your own body. Because no-one ever talks about the trauma that this causes the mother. She is merely a vessel, a means to an end.
– At my age, the saddest people I know bought into the feminist agenda in the ‘60s and put themselves and careers first. Now they have no children and no grandkids and lots of regrets.
Thank goodness for the feminist agenda of the ’60s, that has paved the way for women to become independent and equal in the eyes of the law and society.
There are plenty of women who put there careers first, who are without children and grandchildren and are perfectly happy. You do not speak for them all.
-Happy 4th to you and have a wonderful day with your family.
Passive-aggressive much? Bless your heart.
Conspiracy theory at it’s finest. No, corporations know forced birth is evil and cruel and ruins lives and will ruin society. Stop with the Bible beating.
No one is forced to have a child. You can still get an abortion, Erin. It’s up to each state, which is how our country works. We are a Republic. For someone who is a public figure and sells products, you are very rude and disrespectful and I guess only your opinion matters. I didn’t know having a child ruined your life. At my age, the saddest people I know bought into the feminist agenda in the ‘60s and put themselves and careers first. Now they have no children and no grandkids and lots of regrets. Happy 4th to you and have a wonderful day with your family.

wonderful, timely post Erin!!!
Salutations — religion has nothing to do with it. Even non-religious people agree that you protect the vulnerable. Yes, many on the right were against mask mandates because early on they knew masks did not stop the spread of Covid. As we now know with the vaccine, it doesn’t keep you from getting Covid. How long has birth control been available? Women are using abortion as birth control. They are celebrating their abortions. That’s evil.
No, Gail, women are using birth control as birth control. No woman decides to have an abortion lightheartedly, but it is first and foremost her own personal business and no-one else’s. Forcing women AGAINST THEIR WILL to carry to term, and give birth, just to satisfy your own “moral” conscience is what’s truly evil.

Thank you for sharing this! I was glad to see a comment from the other side. We certainly don’t all see this issue the same. (But we love your design posts, Erin!) It’s time to stop shouting at each other and work together to create security & opportunity for both mother & child.
sure let’s talk working together when you are willing to support legislation for universal affordable health care, early education, food security, non abusive foster and adoption situations, maternity leave and paternity leave, pre and post natal physical and mental health care, as well as consider the fact that the number one cause of death for prego women is…murder! Fancy that. Being pregnant in our society is dangerous, a real drain on health and finances and increasingly a privilege.
All of those changes that might make being pregnant/- parent easier cost a ton of money and a sea change in. Our society that most anti choice folks are completely unwilling to take responsibility for.
Whose life is more important? Right- men who don’t want to pay for all of the above and the women who support them but couched under the banner of morality. We see you.
But also- the founding fathers were trying to protect this nation from the tyranny of a minority.
So so sad we are there
Sis, 100% spot on list. Thanks for posting. Evil is not a right. Hopefully some day these young women will recognize that. What kind of future do their sons have when they only think women are the future? Both men and women are important for society.
Well, if evil is not a right, I would refer you to the evilness of those who are cruel and arrogant enough to believe they have the right to control the bodies of other women. You don’t want an abortion? Don’t get one. But don’t you dare prohibit those who want to have a say in the self-determination of their own bodies. The Right cried bloody murder when they had to put a piece of cloth over their own faces to protect themselves and others during COVID, but think nothing of taking away a woman’s right to choose, because LIFE! It’s one thing to say “I can’t do this because it’s against my religion”, but it’s quite another to say “You can’t do this because it’s against my religion”. Oh, the hypocrisy.
Thank you, Sis. I understand the fear and the rage. There is much to be done. But protecting the most vulnerable must top the list. We’ll work from there. Still fighting for women. But including those who ought to have the chance to grow up and make their own choices.
Where is the tshirt saying CELEBRATE because that’s what I’ve been doing since last Friday! What a week! I’m so thankful for LIFE!
Well, you’ve now been deduced to 2/3 a person. As a BIPOC, welcome! Your rights will now be severely stomped on and annihilated. Have fun with that!
No, i haven’t. And you haven’t either. i’m so thankful for the rights of preborn baby girls. Victory at last after 50 years!!
Maybe you didn’t get the memo. Your self-righteous beliefs do not apply to me or anyone else. You’re sorely mistaken if you think it’s time to celebrate.
Actually, my beliefs AND the Supreme Court’s do apply to you and everyone else. Women win. Babies live. So thankful!
Love this! Please consider doing a post promoting companies who have taken a stand on reproductive rights. A lot are wavering on whether they should or shouldn’t make a statement, and it would be awesome to give them incentive to do so!
Love these!!
Thank you for fighting the good fight!
I cross stitched this saying for you a couple of years ago. “Nevertheless she persisted. Im certain it’s in a closet somewhere. Guess I should have put it on a tee shirt!
I believe I cross stitched the “ nevertheless, she persisted “ slogan. I must have esp. I’m sure it’s in a closet somewhere – I guess I should have crossstitched it into a T shirt!
It’s in Emma’s room
Maybe you should sell it in your store snd donate the proceeds to planned parenthood.!
I love everything you do, Erin…but especially this! YES! 🙌🏽
what the well-dressed pissed off woman is wearing …
I LOVE this post! I have the Clare V tee, and I now ordered the 1973 tee and a choice bracelet on their website where a % of the proceeds goes to Planned Parenthood. https://www.social-goods.com/collections/womens-rights/products/roxanne-assoulin-x-social-goods-choice-bracelet-black
Here’s to giving a damn!
Just bought the 1973 shirt! I wish it could arrive in time to wear for the fourth of July!
Did you see the You Are No the Boss. . . shirt? I laughed aloud! And then I cried a little bit.
I appreciate you and all your rage. I have been following you for basically forever and I absolutely love the activist Erin you’re becoming. It’s wonderful to see someone in your position speaking out and fighting the good fight. Keep it up!
