Your Most Recommended Books // Spring 2021 Edition
After my IG post this morning about how much I disliked “Nine Perfect Strangers” I asked you guys for some book recommendations – and in turn you asked that I post a roundup of the most commonly recommended ones. Click each cover image for the link to the Amazon page:
These are the ones I just added to my Kindle (even though I will probably read them all/have read them already):
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid (by far the most recommended and I LOOOOOOOOVED The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo so I’m so down…)
The Wreckage of My Presence by Casey Wilson – I love a good short story/memoir that is both humorous and deep
The Push by Ashley Audrain
The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave (second most recommended)
Golden Girl by Elin Hildebrand (I love the escapism of her books and she’s now an IG friend so…)
The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz (sounds amazing as a writer myself…)

I’ve heard such great things about The Vanishing Half. My favourite reads lately are Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing and I’m loving Three Women by Lisa Taddeo. I can also recommend my book Bringing Up Race: How to Raise a Kind Child in a Prejudiced World :-)
Hamnet is my new favorite book! It is flawless. I also highly recommend Deacon King Kong.
The Push was very well written – but trigger warning for those like me who cannot deal with child death.
I’m in the middle of People You Meet on Vacation and it’s such a good, fun, escapist read – highly recommend it and Beach Read that you listed, both by the same author
Yay! I’m always on the hunt for more book ideas! Reese’s Book Club has also provided me with a lot of gems. Little Fires Everywhere, Infinite Country, Where The Crawdads Sing, The Giver of Stars, This Is How It Always Is – love all of those. I’m also reading Queenie right now and am really liking it.
I just finished The Midnight Library last night (before midnight!). Do not read if you’re gloomy. It’s one of those novels that needs to percolate through the psyche for a few days for full effect. I will think of it often.
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine unexpected gem. I did not like The Last Thing He Told Me – just really didn’t think it was written that well :( An older book that my book club loved is Cutting for Stone it was soooo good. Highly recommend In An Instant by Suzanne Redfearn. Thanks for posting the list above!

The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell. Fabulous book and audible. Read by the author. I was so sad when it was over! My favorite book of 2020!
One of my best books ever!
For a light romance-y read, definitely recommend The Hating Game and Red, White and Royal Blue. Addictive, fun, sexy, perfect beach reads!

Just finished “Mary Jane” by Jessica Anya Bleu and can’t say enough good things about it. If you are a little older and remember the 70″s, its very nostalgic of a Summer babysitting the kid down the block. And, absolutely recommend “The Last Summer at the Golden Hotel”.
Have read several of these already and just added the rest to my local library account – can loan ebooks for free – just have to wait a while! LOL Loved Addie LaRue and The Last Thing He Told Me was kind of disappointing at the end.
I was given an ARC of No Names to Be Given by Julia Daily and it was fascinating! 3 different girls who become pregnant in the 60’s South are forced to give their children up for adoption and go back to their lives as if nothing happened. Will be available on Amazon in August but she is giving away some on Goodreads.
Highly recommend!
The Guest List by Lucy Foley just came out and I highly recommend. Haven’t read the first one yet – it’s on my list!

Anything by Irish writer Catherine Ryan Howard, her books keep getting nominated for Edgar awards (Distress Signals, The Liar’s Girl, Rewind, The Nothing Man, and a new one coming out this Fall set during the pandemic quarantine in Dublin,) and The Rebel Nun (think real life Game of Thrones but historical fiction…it’s wild) by Marj Charlier
I want to warn you about Addie LaRue – I was completely captivated but I think it really makes a weird turn with her relationship with the devil and completely creeped me out
