Or head in the sand? :) I’m not sure which it is right now to be honest.
This paper will always make me laugh, I love a client with a good sense of humor.
As I mentioned today in stories, this week has been a doozy, we are absolutely swamped with work and it’s more crucial that I spend my work hours on my clients than writing a blog post. So here I am, again, apologizing for not showing up. I know it’s ok, and understandable, but it doesn’t feel great either.
Anyways, one little tidbit I can share with you (and it’s why our jobs have all gotten much, much harder the past few weeks) is…. if you plan on wanting any furniture items for the holiday season- ORDER THEM NOW. Lead times, especially for upholstered goods are unprecedented- most vendors are quoting 20+ weeks with some comically saying numbers that make no logical sense- like 40+ weeks. It’s INSANITY. Even retailers like Crate and Barrel are saying 22-24 weeks for sofas. So fair warning!
Awesome blog! That design came out great! thank you for sharing
Thanks, Erin, for the information regarding lead times on furniture.
Lots of blogs repost favorites from time to time. Totally valid. And sharing those lead times are valuable! People have no idea!
I’ve got a fabulous upholsterer here in Connecticut With a one week turnaround – small shop😉
We are building a new screened-in porch, for which I’m pretty sure our contractor is using mafia connections to source the lumber. My husband and I (and our designer) all had a good laugh when ordering the furniture – the special order accent pillows alone came back with a 36 week lead time. It did, however, make the 24 week lead time on the couch seem bracingly fast in comparison.
That is a great tip. Also, our carpenter is booked for a year. I’m ordering things almost like Amazon Prime – just forgetting about it and then being pleasantly surprised when it shows up!
Supply chain issues and shipping delays are the new normal, I’m afraid. My favorite online wine merchant mentioned in his weekly newsletter that he’s leased additional warehouse space to stock up on inventory before the sh*t really hits the fan. Better stock up on wine, y’all! ;-)
We’ve had two prohibition-style lockdowns in South Africa – and bootlegging was rife! Actually kinda fun 😉 smuggling wine 🍷 between friends!
But I agree – stock up now!
I follow a lot of business and investment sites and I’m to believe this is the new normal, as nothing is made in this country anymore and the dollar becomes weaker by the day. And if you want anything new with a chip in it, get it now. Also, stock up on bleach. ;)
Take care of business- and take care of you.
Yes- lead times are insane. A global container shortage is adding to the already crazy lead times, so shipments from europe (tile, upholstery, etc) are even further behind.
It’s true! I ordered a 10×14 rug from Caitlin Wilson here in Dallas and it’s quoted as minimum 24 weeks lead time:/
Alas, I’m hopeful the wheels of commerce and production mean jobs etc.
In China maybe!
I think you do a remarkable job wearing many hats! I find your posts to be refreshing in their honesty. So much of social media blogging today portrays “perfect” lives. There is no such thing! I hope you’ll continue to do what you do, when you can! And enjoy whatever’s moments you can, along the way!
Such a fun paper for this bath. The antique mirror adds great contrast.
This is such a crazy time to be in the design business. In my decades of being a designer, I have never seen these long lead times and now another possible issue…the carpet suppliers said they have been notified that there might be a yarn shortage…UUUGGG.
what is the name of the wallpaper?

I absolutely love this paper….shy ostrich? But yes, head in sand ….do they really do that? Who cares. It’s wonderful and quirky-thank you for sharing and posting a great reminder regarding ordering furniture and several other Items, including appliances I understand. You briefly mentioned it in your post about your family room furniture. It seems to be a fact nowadays regardless where you live. Good reminder to plan and be patient.
I remember being charged by an ostrich as a child😉
