Fresh Home Essentials For A New Year
With my move coming up, plus a new year ushering out the year from H-E-L-L, I have been feeling like I want a fresh start to everything, right down to my freakin’ mixing bowls. As I pack things up, I’m like, “a new house deserves new towels and sheets! And new glassware! And new mugs! Yes, matching mugs will make me a much happier, more responsible person!”
And while that isn’t true, it does impact how you feel in your space. Clutter and shabby things make me feel stressed and down. Something as small as fresh dishtowels can really actually make an impact! Hi Erin! I have been following you since I was 24 years old. broke and living with 4 roommates. I am 32 years old now, and recently purchased my second home as a single female (which I am proud of!). You have beautiful taste! I have a question for you. In the past 3 years or so, I have aimed to practice minimalism (for a variety of reasons, top being the environment). I have strived to save my money and invest in high quality items that will stand the test of time and use, rather than cheap trends and purchases!! I know that posting new clothes and gifts and retail items is such is a part of your business, but do you think about your impact on the environment at all when you design or suggest products? Just curious about this!!! Congrats on your new home and may it bring you and your family joy!!!
We did this a few years ago when we moved into a new house. It felt so good to purge, refresh (not to mention, it made packing and unpacking SO MUCH EASIER) and donate a lot of items that we knew would go on to have a second life. Not selfish at all and enjoy the newness of your new home. Also, have you burned the Fig Tree candle yet? I am obsessed with Mr. Moss, but want to try a new scent.
Erin’s “spoils” are a result of her business and hard work. If you do follow Erin, you would know she has gone through personal struggles over the past few years (which she shared here). No one’s life is perfect, and everyone is on their own journey. Now she is experiencing a period of abundance and good fortune. If she wants some new towels and mugs, so what? How this negatively impacts anyone else I cannot fathom. In lifting others up, we buoy ourselves as well.

I can not even believe someone posted that…I have never commented on a post but wanted to make sure that you understand that many of us really love watching other women succeed. Enjoy your new home and all the things and I truly wish this woman well. It is a reflection of her deep unhappiness rather that anything personal and I hope you know that!

Ohmygod. Are you serious? Because she posted about new dishes or towels for her new home? She is sharing new finds, which if you’re being honest with yourself, is part of why you’re here. She consistently sells things from her home, her office, etc. making updates that, again if you’re being honest with yourself, we expect from her as a design influencer. That said, if you are truly an Erin follower you would know she spends A LOT of time focusing on things other than herself. And she has been vocal that she chooses to do so at the detriment of her business, at times.

Wow on so many levels. 1st of all, this isn’t the airport , you don’t need to announce your departure. Secondly, calling another woman out on something so trivial speaks volumes about your values, not hers. Perhaps find a woman who commits real harm towards others, like a trump voter, an “ all lives matter” woman or a COVID denier. I don’t follow any other blogs or “ influencers” because it’s all the same crap, they all pretend to like the exact same shit, and make no efforts to be genuine or honest. Erin has the only blog that offers real advice, the ups and downs, the hits and misses. It’s not all trendy and cookie cutter. That’s not easy in the influencer culture we find ourselves in. She could probably make more money hawking every trendy piece of shit that comes across her desk. Her voice and perspective are original and come to us for FREE because of linked merchandise and whatnot. I don’t worry about seeing tie dye jumpsuits or fugly sneakers when I come here. I know I’m going to see a great sale at Tuckernuck, or a high quality alternative to grass cloth. And for what its worth, I’ve been coping all COVID long with upgrading my surrounding, so its not crazy to think a big move to their dream home would illicit the same feelings for her. We seek to control what we can in anxious times. But bye, you won’t be missed.

Whoa, that is way off line. Really sad that you had to lash out like that, which is completely unfounded. I actually have a hard time believing that you follow Erin or this blog because if you did, you would know that she does care, about a lot of things. Yes! We are moving after almost 20 years and I plan to buy, in addition to some additional furniture, new towels and linens, despite having many nice ones! It’s a psychological boost, especially in this depressing environment and a little like the l’Oreal advertisement—“we are worth it!” Little things matter!
