Dream Destinations: Heckfield Place
As I think through some places I want to travel to for my 40th birthday this summer, I began thinking about the English countryside. I read somewhere that Harry and Meghan spent a little “holiday” here at Heckfield Place (BTW, what do we think of the name Archie?), so I had to check it out. And boy am I glad I did. This is the place my English countryside dreams are made of!

This place looks so relaxing and I hope you and your family get to visit. While I’m not in love with the name Archie, I think every parent should be allow to pick their own child name with out comment. There are a lot of American names I personally would not choose to name any of my three children; I glad I had the choice to decide. I think Meghan has been criticized so much in the British and American press. As a mother of mixed race children I have to believe it’s because she is mixed race. I think you asking the question what do you think of his name is a question has should not be asked.
I know you are a fan of Meghan and Harry but you put your blog readers in a difficult situation. Give their opinion and get flak or stay quiet if they have nothing nice to say. Their mothers taught them well.

I don’t love the name Archie, but I love the middle name. But I love that Harry & Meghan continue to stay true to who they are and don’t conform to royal expectations.

If you are making the trip overseas, is there any way you could combine it with a few days in a bustling city followed by a few days of relaxation in the country? It looks beautiful!
Archie is a really cute nickname, but I don’t think it should have been his formal first name. As an American, I immediately think “Bunker” or the comics as well, and if this baby sprouts red hair, then cue even more comparisons. I was personally hoping for a combo like Philip Henry as a nod to the Duke of Edinburgh and his father Harry. I like Harrison a lot, but it still feels a tad too trendy for a future HRH Prince (if they choose to accept the styling when Charles ascends to the throne) I could have even gotten behind Arthur Philip Henry, but alas, nobody asked me! ;-)

Hey, Erin. If I may offer another idea, my husband and I rented this gorgeous home in the South of France (Provence) to celebrate our 50th. Noting that the home is a “luxury villa,” we shared it with friends of mine from college and their spouses. This made the trip both memorable and more budget-friendly. Many bottles of French wine were consumed on that outdoor patio. It was Heaven.
Check out Thyme in the Cotswolds! It is beyond charming- Nancy Myers would love ! It’s getting a lot of great press -Vogue etc.

I think Archie is cute – as a nickname. It’s not a proper name and takes me straight to either “Bunker” or “Comics.” I wouldn’t want to saddle someone who’s going to take a place in England’s history with that kind of baggage.
It’s a modern take on English Country. Subtract all the chintz and florals and just about all prints except that chinoiserie used as art/architecture. Just lovely.
It’s a very beautiful property. Lovely grounds and lovely interior design. I would probably be ok with a short stay here (along with some spa treatments!) but I can only lounge around for a couple days before I’m itching to do something. I think it would be a great place to visit for a special birthday or anniversary!
