Last weekend Andrew and I spent a glorious weekend alone at the incredible Wequassett Resort in Chatham on the Cape. Whenever I spend time in the Cape and Islands I am reminded of my love for the classic, preppy-with-a-twist New England way of dressing. It’s so happy and lovely to not see ironic acid washed mom jeans and crop tops everywhere. I partnered up with Halsbrook, one of my favorite sources for this kind of look, to craft some top to bottom outfits inspired by my Cape weekend- not over the top preppy but rather a comfortable blend of hip and timeless. Think Kate Middleton meets Olivia Palermo.I want ALL of these looks in my closet NOW.

Nice collection thanks for sharing
I *love* your fashion Friday posts, you have such a good eye for putting together chic outfits that are also practical – I wish you had a clone with a wardrobe styling business!!
I love all the outfits. Great looking. I just wish I lived somewhere, where I could actually wear them in the summer. It’s 850 degrees from here on out down here in VA. (Remember that when it gets nasty up there in the winter!) :)
You are SO funny! Acid wash jeans and crop tops! I laughed out loud. Yes, there’s a contingent of us that wants to look like attractive, not-too-stuffy, yet polished women. Your fashion guides keep my online shopping spiritually centered. Sometimes I forget I’m a 30s mother (until I actually put on the stupid thing I bought! Hello return label and glass of wine!)
Can someone please educate me on the difference between ‘mom jeans’ and high-waisted jeans? Thanks!
I am a California born and raised gal but I think I was born on the wrong coast. I am what I like to call classic/grown-up/preppy style loving gal so every single thing you posted could be in my closet, easily. I also decorate my home in a Nantucket, Capecod, Hamptons look. I live in a community surrounded by olive trees and grape vineyards and my home still has a East Coast vibe to it. I love when you do post like these!! THANK YOU!!
Erin,
Thank you!!! I just got the Meli Melo bag that I’ve had my eye on for such a great price! I love this site. Thanks so much for linking to it.
these outfits are wonderful…just my style
I love the casual and baby/bridal shower looks. And the day of shopping, for that matter. Ok, fine, all. I love them all. Kate Middleton + Olivia Palermo = style perfection. Plus maybe Amal Clooney.
Dear Erin,
Thank you so much for featuring our Kilim Slides in your outfit guide! We love the looks you’ve put together here :)
Take care!
I LOVE your work! :) And a fellow Bostonian, right??
Love every last one of these outfits – wish they would magically appear in my closet! Wonderful post – got me in the mood for summer in New England for sure!
PS – all of the clutches have me drooling….
I looked at the outfits several times. They’re really quite classic simple clothes. What makes them chic is how you style them. I’d love to see more of this in the future.
You have a great eye ,which is why you’re a designer. I’d love to see you styling several basic outfits multiple ways. Future post?
gah- those first sandals! SO good! i’ll admit, I do love a mom jean but this style is timeless for a reason.
