The one element I have been using in homes non-stop the past couple years (no matter the style of decor) have been antique Persian or Oushak rugs. There is little else that can really ground a room and make it feel more sophisticated, warm and lived in than a rug with patina. I especially love the look of these layered over wool or jute/sisal rugs (which also can make them a bit more affordable as you can buy a smaller rug and still have the impact!)

In my own home I have one of these types of rugs in my kitchen and I adore how it warms up the space!

Heriz style rugs add a jolt of bolder color and are an awesome option for dark rooms that need a little life, like below.

Entryways are another place to use these beauties (kind of dying over this neutral one below).

Bathrooms are another place they look amazing, again, adding warmth and patina to a room full of hard surfaces.

If you have ever searched “vintage Oushak” or “faded Persian” on Etsy you have probably come across the insanely beautiful selection from Old New House. They have the most incredible stock of these styles of rugs I have seen just about anywhere (like, look at this coral masterpiece??? INSANE!)
They also have a dedicated website where you can search their rugs by size and spend a nice chunk of time drooling over their goods. Take a peek at some of my favorites below and if anything catches your eye, e-mail them and mention Elements of Style for a special personal discount! :) Click the images for links to see each rug in closer detail!)
**This post was sponsored by Old New House. Thank you for supporting those vendors that help keep EOS going!
Do they offer a designer pricing program?
All of the pieces are combined perfectly. Especially the colour of all rugs.
Great inspiration. Keep up the good work!
Regards,
Betty
Great post and nice collection of rugs! i really enjoy my rugs in the living room where you can just lay down and watch TV. How do you take care of the vintage rugs?
Great rugs! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Erin, these rugs are beautiful, but I am having a hard time understanding “vintage”. All I can think of is all of someone else’s spills and stains. Are these professionally and majorly cleaned before they are sold? Ever had any bad experiences?
These “new” “old” rugs are HOT, HOT, HOT!!! I absolutely luv all of mine even after several years . franki
This doesn’t have anything to do with rugs, but a suggested post. I’d love to see a post done on how to style bookshelves. I live in an older home with high ceilings and it’s been such a challenge on making them look good. I don’t have that many books to fill it….am I supposed to just go buy books that serve no purpose? Clueless. Thank you
Elizabeth, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with buying books just to style. Books are art after all! Check out http://www.booksbythefoot.com
Agreed, Stephanie! In fact, I would much prefer to buy books than a bunch of shelf filler crap from HomeGoods!
Good idea, will do a post!
studio mcgee does a great video on as well
Emily Henderson has a post/video on shelf styling. I think hers are not book heavy, so you may want to check out her blog – I’m sure you can search for “styling shelves” or something similar.
Beautiful rugs. I know this is a sponsored post, but could you also share options for less expensive sources? I know in the past you have recommended ecarpetgallery.
Erin, I want to add this type of rug to my kitchen, but how do you keep it clean? My husband is a messy cook….
Nancy: We have a light blue Persian in front of our stove and it’s done a good job hiding stains too. Every 4 months or so, I roll it up (3×5) and bring it to the local carpet cleaner. They clean it on the spot for $20
Ours is mid-tone (not light) and it hides EVERYTHING. So go with a more color saturated rug!
Excuse the typo…I have MCM on the brain but clearly this apartment is NOT! :) #mombrainnevergetsbetter
Rugs do so much to improve acoustics. I never get tired of old Persian or Belgian rugs.
Beautiful!
gah! these are amazing- exactly what i’m looking for in my porch. i’m also kind of obsessed with those jeans on the girl in her kitchen. thanks for bringing this source to my attention!

I love the selection! Interesting pieces!
Wonderful post, Erin. These rugs are absolute beauties!
I’m wondering if you know anything about that tapestry hanging in the Atlanta Homes image you posted (i think 5 images down, the one with the beautiful staircase). It reminds me so much of this one http://ataleofgracek.blogspot.com/2011/04/its-mad-mad-mad-mad-men-worldin-new.html, which is an image from Madeleine Felkey’s amazing MCM apartment. I haven’t been able to discover much about them but thought perhaps you may know. Thanks, as always, for your hard work and inspiring posts!
