Last night’s book launch at West Elm Fenway seriously blew my mind. Naturally, I was so nervous but the whole event so far exceeded my expectations, which anyone who knows me knows is hard to do. The team at West Elm and Moxie Agency made it the most perfect event I could have asked for. There are official pics coming soon but here are some instagrams of the night!
This moment was one many “Carrie Bradshaw” moments I had. I still feel like it was a dream…. did that actually happen?
via @jsgd_
Andrew also had some of his own Carrie Bradshaw moments….
Stacks of books at West Elm– we sold out of books within 35 minutes of the official party start- I’m so sorry for those who came and couldn’t get one- but I’m glad I had bookplates to sign for you!!!
Yummy, yummy food and cocktails- and some custom napkins to coordinate with the book, of course. :)
I woke up this morning with about 50 of these in my bag- apparently I turn into a real kleptomaniac when pumped up on adrenaline and wine.

The signature drink with grapefruit, prosecco, elderflower liqueur and rosemary. It was yum.
OK, this was the craziest part. I signed books for over TWO HOURS! People waited SO long – I seriously could not believe it!
And the ladies turned it OUT in stripes and leopard. Apparently there was even a drinking game happening with leopard print. :) Love it!
Michale J. Lee, the photographer who shot the cover and a hefty portion of the book- so fun to toast those who worked so hard on this project with me!
A baby even came! :)

Thank you SO much to everyone. I am still floating. I can’t wait to meet more of you on tour!!!
via @decorumstyle
P.S. I was freaking out about what to wear, of course, and ended up going super simple in an AD dress, Valentino shoes (mine are from last year but these are the current ones), earrings from Cusp and a cuff from Kendra Scott.
Will the Erin Gates fan who wore that cool leopard coat in the Instagram pics please tell us where she got it? That’s such an Erin Gates moment! Wish I’d been there. I have a leopard sweater. I could play the leopard drinking game (if someone who only tell me how it works?).
It looked like an amazing party.
Hi Patricia
Thank you for your compliment. I purchased the leopard coat several years ago from H&M.
Congratulations Erin!!! I’ve followed your blog since 2008 – its been really fun to watch your success.
I’m up to Office in the book and absolutely adore it. I know how you feel about how you look. Grandma told me I’d never be pretty. That record has played forever. Can’t wait to see you in Raleigh. Love Snooze
Great party – you looked fresh and fabulous even after signing books all night. I was happy to be the last in line and get my signed bookplate. But why didn’t I think to have Andrew sign too? Damn. Enjoy the tour!!
Congratulations, Erin! In the 10 months that I have been following your blog I have smiled, laughed, and even had a few tears. What a gift to have someone share not only their talent and triumphs, but their real heart and soul – even the less than “perfect” parts. Your blog has inspired me to look at my home differently, revel in the pretty things in life, and feel much better about being a real human being – imperfections and baggage included. Thank you for that. Per Amazon your book has shipped and I cannot wait to read it. I hope these next weeks are filled with amazing moments with your fans and those you love. Best wishes for continued success!

So thrilled for you! I have been enjoying your blog for a couple of years now, I can’t wait to come along for the next leg of your journey.
I ordered my book yesterday and it arrived today (does your mom work for Amazon???) and what a treat to sit down and read it tonight. The first page I opened to provided instant inspiration for my dining room. Will be emailing Lindsey ASAP to get into your client queue! Great job!
I am so happy for you Erin! I received my book and can’t wait to sit down undisturbed to dive in. I’ll be doing a review on our blog ( so will a million other bloggers!) I am sorry I can’t make it to Georgetown this Friday to meet you. We are HUGE fans! You so deserve all the praise. It is such a beautiful book. xo Nancy
It was a fabulous book launch and I am so glad I finally got to meet you in person! I am so excited to dive into your book and use it to help me design our new home in Southie. You are such an inspiration! And I love how much I can relate to your posts as a former Newton resident, with parents in the Noank-Mystic area (love Ford’s!), and lover of leopard and stripes. I’m also the anxious one, and it’s always so comforting to hear I am not alone! So thank you for being so open, and sharing not only design ideas but also your reflections on life. And of course, congratulations on hitting this huge milestone! Xx Chantal
CONGRATULATIONS!! WOW! What an accomplishment! I pre-ordered your book on Amazon. Cannot wait to get it!!!
So so delighted for you. Had tears in my eyes reading this. Congrats! Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy xx
Congratulations, Erin! And your outfit is perfection!
Sadly, I am not a regular commenter, but, happily, I am an ardent fan and avid reader of your work. I had an email from Amazon the other day saying that my copy of your gorgeous book has shipped, and I’m so excited to get my hands on it. I am thrilled for you and your husband about its publication. Your West Elm party looks like it was amazing, and you are the prettiest, most put-together book signer(s) ever. Everything you do seems to just be beautifully executed! Wishing you the best of luck with everything.
Congrats,
jbhat
OMG! Congratulations, everything looks amazing. Even the napkins had black stripes, such detail. Since we have been reading about your goals to publish this book since day one, it feels so nice to see that it has come true and the cherry on top: SUCCESSFUL!!!
You looked amazing ! I’m truly happy for you (well, we never met, but I love your blog) and I can’t wait for my book to arrive soon ! Cheers from the UK !
Congratulations Erin!!! xx
Erin,
Your fans showed up in Leopard and Stripes to honor you- you in turn honored us with your attention to detail- even “fanning” the ink on your dedications- always giving your best- the food was fabulous and I wish you all the best-it was a fun night!
Congrats! I have been enjoying your blog for years now…it’s so wonderful to see the success of your blog and now your book. Also, I love that women came dressed to the 9’s for you in leopard and stripes. You have a following!
I’ve read the blog everyday for years and moved from the South End to Newton at the same time as you. I loved the event last night and have already started enjoying the great book (determined to figure out how to fix my tough entry area!!!). It’s hugely inspirational to see such success come to someone around my age who has built a business from scratch around a personal passion. I’ve worked hard in my career and progressed, but can’t help but reevaluate my choices now that I have kids – I would love to find a way to spend my working hours doing something far more personally meaningful to me, as you have. You’re a great inspiration to many of us and all of your success is well-deserved! Hope to see you around Newton Centre/Waban sometime soon. Congrats!!!
Will you be coming to LA on Tour?
Congratulations, Erin! Purchased your book yesterday while in NY and am half way through reading it. Fantastic job. As a new designer, it is an inspiration for me.
Erin! It was soooo great to finally meet you in person last night! The West Elm event and your book were / are both spectacular!
Totally wish I could make it to one of your book signings (you should have come to Santa Barbara!) but so glad the festivities in Boston were so wonderful! Congratulations Erin!!
Congrats on the signing! I can NOT wait for your book to come in the mail! I wish you were going to be doing a stop in nashville on your tour :(
Erin! you look amazing!! I can’t wait to get your book. I wish my husband and I still lived in Boston because we would of loved to have been there (we are both big fans!!!) I wish you were coming west to Southern California! Wishing you all the success in the world! You are inspiring and amazing. Congrats!
xx,
Erin
Congrats Erin! So happy for you — come to LA! :)
congrats! you look beautiful and your shoes are seriously awesome!!
Congratulations! Can’t wait for the event at Hudson!! I’m taking my daughter with me- so much fun!! Yesterday, spent the day painting my laundry room (in the basement) PINK! We have black W/D and it looks so cute and its fun going down there doing the mundane chores of laundry!
Congratulations!!
Erin
Congratulations! I preordered my book and it came yesterday. You looked lovely. All the very best, Alicia
I’m sure I’m not alone among your readers who desperately wish they could have been there but watched with glee on Insta! Looks like an amazing event!
I spent my evening at home pouring over the book after pouncing on the FedEx man as he came up the drive :) It’s beautiful and the forward from Andrew is the sweetest!
You’ve got Star Power, Erin — right down to those Valentino Rockstuds! (Just couldn’t resist posting THOSE shoes on Instagram!) And you deserve every bit of praise coming your way. The Book Launch Party was glamourous & fabulous — just like you! You looked stunning and so many people were blown away by how you greeted & chatted with every single person who came to have you sign their book. WOW just magical! And THE BOOK is Incredible. Stayed up way too late last night just looking at the pictures. And reading Andrew’s Introduction, which is beautifully written, so touching & clearly heartfelt (What a great guy — he is as charming as he is handsome, and so kind.) Can’t wait to dive into the reading phase!! Enjoy the Book Tour and soak up every minute of the love!
Congratulations, Erin! I can’t wait to see you when you are back in Boston for your final stop :)
Wow! Amazing!!!! Congratulations! I loved seeing all the pics of everyone in stripes and leopard. You have a cult following :)
Congratulations on such a successful evening and book-signing Erin!

Love this post. Your many fans are so enthusiastic as are you. Hopefully when I return home (visiting family in California) my book will be waiting for me. Everything was perfect…you and Andrew look amazing….West Elm was the perfect setting….and those cocktail napkins and matches.
When my book arrives I am going to put on my favorite black/white striped shirt, hug my leopard print pillow and read away. “The Book” will look great on my coffee table. Angie
I got my book yesterday and love it so much. Every page is wonderful and provides so much inspiration. You talk in the book about the turmoil you went through to pick the perfect gray for kitchen cabinets. It is perfect. Can I ask what the color is?
[…] Also, I assisted with Erin Gate’s Elements of Style Book Launch Event and here is a quick glance to the successful and exciting evening! […]
Amazing! Congratulations. I wish you were coming close to me — the closest is Atlanta, which is still 6 hours away! Wah. I’ve been a daily reader since 2007 … got the book yesterday & practically squealed and read half of it last night. So good. Hope the rest of your tour is as fabulous as last night! All the best!
Congratulations!! You deserve it and you looked gorgeous! Enjoy your book tour!!
Be like a Rock star and try to work the phrase “on tour” in to as many conversations as possible…. as in; ” I’m on tour right now; I’ll have to get back to you in a couple of weeks”!!
So cute!! I love how a lot of people came in leopard and stripes. You impact so many people’s lives!!
When I got home last night, I asked my mom (who was babysitting my kids), “Did I get any packages delivered today?” I couldn’t wait for the book to arrive. The book is GORGEOUS! You did an amazing job and the layout is so YOU!
Congratulations!
What an accomplishment! We are so thrilled for you and Andrew. ENJOY all of your hard work and the fruits of this labor of love. Much love to you both! Leigh and Kirk
Thanks guys!!!
You are so talented and humble, you deserve all this success and much more. I so enjoy reading your blog and can’t wait for my copy of the book to arrive. Congratulations and enjoy every moment!
What a great night – you deserve it! CONGRATS! Wishing you continued success (and I can’t wait to buy a copy of the book!)!!
congrats on the launch! hoping to see you tomorrow in NYC, but haven’t heard back on my RSVP email… should I be expecting a response? sorry to bother :)
No responses…once you RSVP you are in! See you there. :)
girlfriend, you look fierce. all the congrats in the world. you deserve this!
Erin!
It was so lovely meeting you, your family and more of your blog readers last night! You looked GORGEOUS!!!
I was so lucky to overhear some of the stories in the line. I kept hearing, “I wake up everyday and read her blog…she is apart of my everyday. Her blog means so much to me.” (I could go on and on…). As a fellow blogger and designer who recently relocated to Boston, you inspire and motivate me to keep going after my dreams. And I want to thank you for that.
Thank you for staying so late to sign everyone’s books – I hope you made it to your dinner reservation! :)
( oh and fyi, I was the one “fanning” your signatures from west elm) haha!
xo
Jessica
That is so sweet! Thank you for sharing that! And all your fanning!!! ;)
Congratulations!! I can’t wait to meet you in DC this Friday!!
congrats on your book launch!! I can not wait to receive my book and hope to meet ya in Dallas!
Eeee!!! I feel like the invitations said “Dress Code: EOS Chic”! I settled in with my copy last night and my husband got yelled out for coming within 5 feet of it with his bowl of ice cream. Last night was a flip-through orientation to see all of the pictures, and tonight starts the reading. Can’t wait!
Congratulations on the wonderful book! I couldn’t resist reading through the entire thing last night, and it inspired me to rearrange several of my living room shelves/vignettes afterwards (and inspired my husband to wonder why in the world that was necessary on a Tuesday night!). I absolutely love your blog and have been reading it every day for years. You are an inspiration!
*PS: One small thing: Jonathan Adler’s name is misspelled on your Book Tour details webpage*
Congratulations! As a new blogger and a designer just starting out on my own after years of working for a firm, it’s so inspiring to see where hard work, determination (and a bucketful of talent!) can take you.
So wish I could have been there last night but a business-traveling husband and two kids at home made it impossible ( I did, for a moment, consider dressing the kids up as leopards and bringing them along … but then I checked back in to reality).
The book is beautiful (and that gorgeous spine makes it *such* a good styling prop) and you’ll kill it on the tour, I’m sure.
Also, those Valentino shoes are the sh*t!
Congratulations, Erin!! So bummed that I missed the festivities last night; I’m sure it was much more fun than the Needham kindergarten orientation meeting that I went to instead. Can’t wait to pick up a copy of the book this week. So very PROUD of you, roomie! Camels can do great things! :-)
Perfect night! Your shoes totally killed it. Is it all a blur now or do you remember details? Here’s where a wedding videographer would come in handy…
