A Modern Rustic Makeover

Monday, December 9th, 2013

Now that my house is pretty much done and decorated, I of course have the itch to redecorate. I’m not going to because I just spent so much money on this place (and I do think it looks great), but I can’t help but feel the desire to start switching out a rug here, pillows there…. you know?  In particular, winter always makes me want a more rustic interior.  We get all cozy inside and have fires and it makes me want to whitewash some wood and throw up some farmhouse inspired pendants- I can’t help myself!  This spread from Country Living, showcasing a really awesome interior in that vein, only feeds the flames.  And how I LOVE a good before and after! The owners of this Pennsylvania home happen to be the force behind Acre Creative and looking through their work I was pretty inspired!

This kitchen is a great example of a budget renovation- the cabinets are IKEA!  Love the fresh, white feel with the rustic ceiling and vintage island.

Such a great example of how you can turn something gross into something stunning.

Love this open, bright living room space. Decor-wise, I would have done it a bit differently ( a big linen slipcovered sofa somewhere!) but I adore the mirror and the ceiling!

Look how bland it was before- they added SO much character to it!

Some fun detail shots.

Love this bedroom, the beamed vaulted ceiling (which I want to do in my new master suite when we do our addition) is so airy and lovely.  And it such a good idea to treat the low wall as an extended headboard by applying a different material to it!

This vintage chair the homeowner covered in sheepskin reminds me SO much of this new West Elm chair I’ve been totally obsessed with since it came out a few weeks ago! I personally would go nuts having to look at the contents of my closet all the time and would probably have added some great curtains to the opening here to close it off.

The before shot. I mean, DAAAAYYYYUMMM.

The showstopper- the bathroom. Just scroll down and see the before and then come back up and let’s discuss…..

YEAH. I mean, it’s pretty awesome.  I have too many issues to feel comfortable showering in the open like that- I don;t need Andrew seeing me shave my legs while he’s brushing his teeth, but I love the idea of a space like this!

BEFORE! GAH!

This little vintage sink is too cute.

The guest room/ office is so adorable. Love the black walls offset by the white wood ceiling and the curtain separating the bed from the office space is just beyond cute (and smart).

The guest room before- the blew out that wall at right to extend further and create the sleeping nook!

A Heartwarming/ Heartbreaking Renovation

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

I was in the middle of a full fledged renovation meltdown yesterday- back-orders, high quotes, days ticking away before we begin and way behind on designing it- panic was clawing it’s talons into my chest and threatening to render me to tears in public several times.  And then I read this story and thought, “I am damn lucky to be able to be here to do this renovation. Get a grip.”  A couple years ago we were all heartbroken in the blogging world when design blogger Marija was killed in a car accident coming home from an antiquing trip.  She had been blogging and planning a renovation of a gorgeous new home and in the middle of it she was taken away not only from her dream project but her loving husband and children.  It’s on of those things we all think will never happen to us, but in reality, it does.   However, in a wonderful turn of events, Marija’s dream home design was seen through thanks to designer Julia Edelman of Buckingham Interiors + Design and showcased in Chicago Home Magazine this month. While it’s incredibly sad she’s not here to see it I am sure that from wherever she is she is so pleased her family has such a lovely space to call home and be together. I hope they all continue to heal within these walls.

Runway to Room: Stripes+Florals

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

I have so been loving the mix of stripes and florals in fashion this year.  It’s a totally unexplected but great way to combine two prints without looking like a lunatic.

And there is no reason this can’t translate into your home! Chintzy florals are back in, and paired with crisp stripes it looks modern and fun!

Tilton Fenwick @ Hamptons Showhouse

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

I met the Tilton Fenwick girls at this years Blogfest in NYC and they are such sweet people!  I was excited to see that they were doing a room for the Hamptons Designer Showhouse this summer and LOVE the results, thanks to a sneak peek on Nest blog. Such inventive pairings of fabrics and use of textures in this space- plus a adore all the artwork! I’ll be out in the Hamptons for a couple days in August with a client and I think we might have to go see this in person!

Love the ostrich textured table!

The chairs upholstered in the stripe with the floral fabric running down the center is GENIUS- not to mention the banding on those drapes!

Love this Phillip Jeffries grasscloth with the raised rivets- i pulled it a couple weeks ago at our local showroom because I thought it was so cool- seeing it installed makes it all the better!

Love the tortoise coffee table- such a summery, natural pattern.

Happy Fourth: Tobi Fairley Guest Post

Monday, July 4th, 2011

Happy Fourth of July everyone! The fabulous Tobi Fairley asked Kelley Moore and I to take out little “Runway to Room to Tabletop” series over to her blog on this holiday and use an all-American theme to do it.  We chose a look from the Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2011 runway that screams patriotic, classic, born in the USA style.  Go to her blog to see the sources and Kelley’s picnic worthy tabletop, but here’s a peek at my guest bedroom/kid’s room….
