Blog Crush: From Me to You

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

I am completely, utterly obsessed with the photography blog From Me to You. The photographer, Jamie, could make a toenail clipping on a coffee table look enchanting, I swear.  The girl can capture a feeling, beauty and moment like no one I’ve seen. Try not to lose your entire day looking through her archives- fashion, beauty, home, food, lifestyle….you name it, she shoots it- and with such style. Consider yourself inspired.

Through the Lens of Michael Partenio

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Photographer Michael Partenio’s portfolio is one that has ignited some creative thinking for me!  Sometimes it feels like I’ve seen everything out there when it comes to great interior  photography and then I come across a fresh new crop of pictures like this that get me giddy again! I love the crisp New England breeze that seems to flow through all his shots.  A magnificent eye, I think.

Lifestyle Lust: La Tartine Gourmand

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

As I sat alone in my apartment last night eating a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats for dinner  (pairing it with a nice Sauvignon Blanc, after much deliberation about what wine goes with cereal-repulsive) I stumbled upon the Boston-based food blog La Tartine Gourmand.  It instantly whipped up the lingering dreams I’ve always had of being a fantastic cook / domestic goddess (and caused me to cast a judgmental eye on my choice of dinner). I spent hours clicking my way through her blog, enamored by her stunning photographs of the preparation of meals, the delicious final products and the life that weaves it all together.  How beautiful to combine a picture of a sunny cranberry bog next to a styled photo of a freshly baked upside down cranberry cake, no?  Only someone with effortless French style (she grew up in France-jealous) could make it all look so chic. Her photographs showcase her flawless eye and ability to turn the most simple ingredient or landscape into something impossibly charming.  Style is style, whether it’s food, photos, homes, fashion, dance, whatever.

Someday perhaps I will be the kind of girl who spends a rainy day making gourmet delicacies for my family from fresh farmers market goods served on hand-painted ceramics and fresh linens– but until then I will just visit Bea’s world (and await her cookbook in 2011!)

Beacon Hill Beauty.

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

The newest issue of Stuff Magazine has my feature on photographer Sarah Winchester’s apartment in Beacon Hill- but we took a lot more images that didn’t get printed that I wanted to share! It’s such a great little apartment and proof positive that you can do A LOT with a rental! She admitted ot getting some of her ideas for this very blog (I love hearing that people put inspiration found here into play) and I absolutely love what she’s done with the place!

The black, glossy interiors of the bookshelves simply make me want to do cartwheels.

Those big, Beacon Hill windows pretty much rock.

The kitchen came complete with a swath of red and cream toile wallpaper as a back splash. I think it’s a darling little addition!

Those big foo dogs, which you just know I love, came from Pieces in ATL!

I love this shot- the Dwell bedding, the light, the kitty. :)

This one bedroom apartment has the biggest closet I’ve ever seen in any Beacon Hill apartment.  So Sarah turned it into an office as well, building a desk in the bay window alcove. It’s such a darling place to work! You can read more about it here.

Sarah has a killer eye and recently shot my friend (and studio neighbor) Jessica Sutton for the New Brahmin blog (my OTHER new studio neighbor- our floor rocks) and she’ll be shooting my new head shots in the next month or so. And just because she loves EOS so much (hee hee) she’s offering a photo session for my readers exclusively at an amazing discounted price!  Baby portrait, engagement picture, head shot- whatever you need, you can have a two hour session plus a CD of images for $300. Email her for more information at sarah.m.winchester@gmail.com.

Wedding Crush.

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

My friend Jessica turned me onto the genius that is Alison Conklin’s photography. I am, to put it mildly, obsessed. These two weddings really sealed the deal though- from the mind-blowing bridesmaids dresses and scenery (interiors too) of a wedding in Ireland to a deliciously hip Philly wedding. I advise all of you, even those not interested in weddings, to look at her galleries. What a talent!

Coolest bridesmaid dresses I have EVER seen. EVER.

Photographers have the most amazing way of turning simple spaces and groupings of objects into magical vignettes of life. James Merrell is one of those people. He’s shot for Anthropologie, Domino, J.Crew and Town & Country, among many others. I love the effortless feel these rooms and objects possess. (You may recognize a few shots from some of our favorite Domino spreads too…) Porfolios like these are such fantastic sources of inspiration!

Labor of Love

Monday, July 6th, 2009
I am simply enamoured with the wedding/portrait photographers Our Labor of Love. Creativity, artistry and fun permeate each image this group shoots- just try not to spend an hour going through their portfolio here. What lucky people who get to have their important life milestones captured by these creative geniuses… (and some fantastic wedding ideas for those who are planning too…)

This wedding below looks like it was spectacular! Tulips hanging from mossy “chandeliers”?
I die.

Loving the richness of the bold colors…

..and even the quiet moments sing with beauty!

OLOL also offers a “smilebooth” when they shoot weddings which looks like a perfect way to capture the silliness and exuberance of guests- filled with props and fitted with a remote to take the shots you’re guaranteed some hysterical images…

Picture Perfect.

Eric Roth: Personal Space Exhibit

Monday, April 6th, 2009

photos courtesy of Eric Roth

You may recall the post I did a few months ago on the work of interior photographer Eric Roth, who shot my home for the Boston Globe Magazine. Well, he’s having a huge exhibit of his work, Personal Space, at the Boston Design Center beginning April 17th, and guess who is included? Me! I am so honored and thrilled that he chose two pictures from our shoot to include in his amazing retrospective exhibit and even put my little mantle scape on the invite above! If you are in the Boston area between then and June 16th you should take a trip over and take a gander at his fantastic work…

As for the Domino contest- thank you for your fantastic submissions!!! I’ll be judging them tonight and will post the winners tomorrow!

Life Through the Lens

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

I have found a new crush- photographer Paul Costello. Turns out he’s shot just about every image in my “absolute favorites” file and I had no idea. Photographers can take a space that looks ho-hum and transform it into something that sings. What they do is amazing, and I hope one of my “careers” in this life will be a photographer. I love the process, the lifestyle, the creativity and imagination. Paul’s work makes life look it’s best, and makes me wish I lived inside one of his pictures…

Check out his fashion and lifestyle photos too- they are so charming!
