The Exquisite Edelmans

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

Last month’s House Beautiful has a whole section which I happen to have dog-eared enthusiastically. Some pages so full of amazing ideas that I wish I could triple dog-ear it somehow.  What I found so inspiring was the CT home on Bonnie and John Edelman in Connecticut (my home state, hollllaaaa). What a completely amazing, wonderful, insanely awesome example of decorating this place is. A mix of modern, traditional, vintage, new, simple and exquisite!  And would you expect less from the couple- he, the president/CEO of Design Within Reach and she, a very talented photographer?

Zebra? Check. Horns? Check. Sunburst mirror? Check.

Sputnik, I love you.

Amazing gallery wall, obvi.

More tulip tables! Guess that’s a given when you run DWR.

Gorg. Love me an egg chair too.

GAH! I just keeled over dead. This picture is porn for me.

Gallery wall x a gazillion.

I mean, REALLY? This is the OUTDOOR kitchen and dining area? Can I hold my birthday party here for a fee?

(dead)

Perfection. Absolute perfection. Can you imagine making s’mores and drinking wine here? I can. Just waiting for my invitation…. (crickets)

And how about Bonnie’s gorgeous equestrian photos? Who doesn’t love a large scale print of one of the most beautiful creatures on earth?

Book Club

I absolutely love getting lost is a really good book. I especially love it when you read a passage that makes you feel so understood, not alone and above all, not crazy.  I have books underlined to the hilt of sentences that moved me so much that I need to not forget about them.  Which is why I absolutely love the work of photographer Juliette Tang. She sets still life vignettes using novels and surrounding them with accoutrement that reflect the story.  She also takes pictures of herself, and others reading, which give off such a relaxing feeling that it makes me want to stop typing and go read…

…..

Just kidding. I must wait until tonight. But speaking of, have there been any books you’ve read lately that totally rocked your world? I personally can recommend Little Bee and Cutting For Stone HIGHLY. And since I’ve never read it or seen the movie, I am current;y deep into Prince of Tides and I am ENAMORED with Pat Conroy’s writing…. Share yours!

Adorable Overload

I found out about the Animal Print Shop by Sharon Montrose from my pal Kyle Knight of Knight Moves blog and I simply HAD to share since everyone I know currently is having/has had a baby except for maybe one person. And he doesn’t have a uterus. I won’t even get into the fact that I bought one of the DVF for Gap Kids wrap dresses just in case I some day have a baby and it’s a girl. I’ll save that one for my shrink.

But you know how I feel about animals, never mind BABY animals. Did anyone watch Frozen Planet on Sunday? I nearly lapsed into a coma from those polar bear cubs!  I can imagine nothing cuter in a nursery than these modern photographic prints either in a series or one over-scale one! But you can also be a full size, able to feed yourself adult and sport one in a room too!

A few close ups to make you go “awwwwwww”

Good for adult spaces (how does nature create such a gorgeous pink that flamingos get to sport?)
