This week I watched The Graduate for the first time. I know, I am like several decades late to the party, but for some reason I never thought it would be a movie I’d like. I was WRONG! I loved the film and I worship Anne Bancroft in this movie- in both attitude and appearance! So fierce! So sexy! So borderline crazy! My kinda woman! Her style is so sleek and chic in this film (and of course I adore her penchant for animal prints.)
Some items that remind me of Mrs. Robinson’s style. I happen to think she would have loved graphic DVF wrap dresses :) Keys to this look: smokey eye and nude lip, lots of animal prints, sleek simple silhouettes and basic colors (black, white red, tan). And of course some lovely underthings!
I was taking note of the interiors and accents in the movie- like that fabulous black and white stripe awning at the Robinson’s house. I had to try to create a retro chic patio based on it!
I also think that Katharine Ross who played Elaine int he movie is one of the most beautiful women ever to exist! I love her bohemian beauty (nd I love the top of that wedding dress!)
In two weeks I am headed to St. Maarten (with a trip over to St. Barth’s scheduled) with my husband’s family and I CANNOT WAIT. You do not know how badly I need a vacation! While I ponder warm sun on my face and the sound of waves crashing in my ears, I put together a fabulously glam patio look to dress up any outdoor space (cannot get enough of those Z.Gallerie pavilions!)
I saw this awesomely creative garden/potting room from the Shippan Designer Showhouse on Stacy Kustel’s blog and had to share. Designer Victoria Lyon and Robin Horton of Urban Gardens crafted such a charming, relaxed space for those with a green thumb. From the greenery wall to the birds on the wall it makes me wish I had a garden to tend to!
This room reminds me that I am still dying to see the new Anthropologie gardening outpost Terrain in PA!
Hello killer signage….
These zinc tags remind me of the room above! They would actually be great as gift tags too this holiday season!
They also sell vertical garden wall containers to create a green wall like the one at the showhouse!
I love these various terrariums! I want some in my house!
How about these gorgeous lights?
And there is no more perfect post than this with which to wish my mom, the ultimate gardener (remember her gardens I showed you here?) a very, very happy 60th birthday! Love you!!!
I was in Target today looking for shower caddies (thrilling stuff) and wandered into the garden/patio section as I continue to dream up how to pimp out my new outdoor space with views of the Prudential Tower. I turned down an aisle and had to steady myself when I saw THESE. Ginormous patio foo dogs!!!!! Like three feet tall! You know how I love me some foo dogs, and these were the biggest ones I’ve ever seen. I did not load them into my cart and skip to the checkout because I couldn’t tell if they were cheesy (not stone, but that faux resin stone) and at this scale perhaps too much foo? Plus eighty bones is a lot to part with for a giant foo dog made of plastic.
But I really wanted to get them simply because they exist. It seems like these might be something I’ll see on clearance in a week.
I am so excited to share that Well Appointed House asked us to partner with them on this A-MAZ-ING giveaway! Spring is here and people are sprucing up their outdoor spaces and I can think of no better accent than this black lacquer Lutyens bench (valued at $350)…which you can win if you pop over to the Well Appointed House blog and enter! I absolutely love the shape and styling of this piece (would enter to win one myself if I could- would look darling on my new patio) and can fit in with any decor style. Winner will be announced on Monday so you have plenty of time to enter!
Speaking of porches and patios, I was sitting on a big’ ol southern style wraparound porch last weekend in Sea Island, swaying back and forth on a porch swing and made an executive decisions that I need one in my life. Obviously this will not be happening on my little patio in the city, but it’s going to be a MUST in my next home. It got me thinking about outdoor spaces and how much fun you can have decorating them. Just look:
I love it when people treat porches like indoor rooms- the gallery wall below is FABULOUS, and those built ins? Bananas.
Curtains on a porch? YES PLEASE. you can find them ready made at a variety of places, but also can have some custom made with the incredible selection of outdoor fabrics available these days!
Modern takes on outdoor decor:
This sun room isn’t really outdoor, but I love the decor and mix of textures!
These are so nap-worthy.
This lush greenery is jaw-dropping. I wish my thumb were green enough to make this a reality some day, but I can barely keep an orchid alive.
Ready to get your jealous on? This backyard shed was turned into a big bath house for the owner. This is soooooo going on my birthday list this year.
How about this patio bathtub? I would never ever get out. Ever.
One of the COOLEST “outdoor spaces” I’ve seen- a huge retractable skylight in a top floor apartment! I can;t even comprehend the awesomeness of this.
My new obsession are these outdoor rugs by Fab Habitat made from polypropylene but styled like traditional rugs and SO affordable!
