Taking Stock at Overstock

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Overstock.com is fast becoming one of my go-to sites for affordable furniture, accessories, lighting, art- you name it. But did you know they have some lovely TILE as well? If you are renovating a bathroom you might want to check out these classics available on the site:

And how can resist these beauties- at such great prices? Many of these are copies of design classics, but if you can’t afford the real thing and you’re dying for the look I see NO PROBLEM in getting a copy. No one will know. Just don’t buy fake Louis Vuitton. That I cannot support.

Oh hello, fake Colette bed, how are you? Would you like to come live with me?

Distracting Pretty Things.

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Ok, enough moping about Met Home (and the phantom pains of other defunct shelter magazines of yesteryear). Let’s distract ourselves with pretty things found on the magical interwebs by sheer luck. I was on Yurdan.com looking for kilim rugs and instead found this amazing vintage inspired necklace! The woven silk braid combined with the stones and rustic gold branches would look amazing paired with a simple silk camisole or blouse and jeans (and gold heels. Natch.)

More Than Party Decor…

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

You can thank me later for this one.  I found these John Robshaw-esque pillow covers on Luna Bazaar (the site where I bought the decor for my 30th birthday party) and I just about keeled over! They are between $10-$30 each! I am loving the boho chic feel of the block prints and ikats!

Then I kept looking and found these amazing batik and ikat bangles for $15 and under and ikat clutches for $19! What great gifts for uber chic friends (or yourself).

Faux Fur Love

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

I am in search of the perfect faux fur vest for fall/winter a la Rachel Zoe.  She even has her own design for QVC that I might investigate seeing as it must be fabulous if she put her name on it I am pissed I missed out on b/c it’s now SOLD OUT. Grrrr.

However, while at my photo shoot yesterday at the Webster showroom at the BDC, there was this MAGNIFICENT faux fur throw that sent me into a bit of a giddy spell. It was perfection, and way out of my budget, but I insisted we find a place for it in a shot or two- despite the photographers obvious dislike of it. Hello, it’s me- pile on the faux fur and zebra!

Anyways, now I am obsessed with finding a gorgeous faux fur throw for my new “neutral” space I hope to create (remember, I’m on a neutral kick).  Fur ads such a great texture to a room when combined with sleek metals, glass, linens, leathers and such. Just look at these spaces with (hopefully faux) fur throws… yummy, right? Especially the first one with my other obsession-black walls!

Picture 24Picture 25Picture 26Picture 46I am pretty sold on this one, but it’s also pretty darn pricey for something I may decide I “hate” in a year.

Picture 45This one is a close second and more realistic since it’s so much cheaper!

Picture 47Pottery Barn even has a few to chose from!

Picture 48This light lynx throw is pretty subtle and lovely too

Thanks to a reader tip, Z Gallerie has two gorgeous ones as well for under $100!

How I wish I had one to cozy up with right now!

I really love this Thomas O’Brien china for sale on Rue La La today- navy, light turquoise and white looks so fresh and modern yet totally traditional too.

Show to Watch: Man Shops Globe

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

While watching Under the Tuscan Sun last night on TV (and lamenting the fact that I do not have the funds nor guts to up and move to an antique farmhouse in Tuscany), I saw a preview for a very exciting new show I thought you guys might love! Man Shops Globe premiers October 7th on Sundance Channel and follows Keith Johnson, buyer-at-large for Anthropologie, as he shops for unique finds around the world!  Keith professes that he has “the best job in the world” and I would have to agree! The first episode will be following Keith as he shops in PARIS. Oh, I might melt into a puddle of jealously on the spot!

This made me want to check out what goodies are in stock right now at Anthro:

Lustworthy: SJP’s Turquoise Chandelier

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I’ve always LOVED this photo of SJP’s Hampton’s dining room (I’d add a rug and some modern art though- just FYI).  I recall that the fixture was vintage, but I found one almost identical on Tonic Home- it’s called the Sara (coincidence?) and comes in a bevy of colors! What a GREAT way to add a pop of color to a dining room!
(Also still coveting the mismtached chairs all painted black!)

The Restoration of Restoration.

Monday, August 31st, 2009

I haven’t been sourcing much more than the occasional schoolhouse pendant or hardware from Restoration Hardware in the past year, finding it too heavy and traditional for my taste. Until now. When I received the newest catalog (and being out of any other reading material, i.e. US Weekly) I actually flipped through it instead of recycling it. And am I glad I did! This light fixture stopped me dead in my tracks!!! I would LOVE to use a pair of them over a kitchen island in an all white and Carerra marble kitchen! I am literally bouncing up and down in my chair at the thought of it right now! :) Any takers?

Then I saw this sleek and simple glass piece of light candy and got even more excited. I love the vintage look mixed with a smidge of modernism.

This chair is bananas. It’s like a unique take of the Barcelona chaise. But it looks insanely comfortable! Also note the killer industrial chic console/buffet table and lights! (Cue more excited bouncing!)

This item sent me over the edge though. A massive leather trunk that is actually a secretary, complete with magazine caddies and drawers. I mean, I am not exactly sure for whom and where this would work (a LARGE loft, perhaps), but you cannot deny the coolness. Or that killer leather strap chair (which I’d love to see around a really modern glass and chrome dining table.)

This bricklayers table is my favorite. I love, love, love it.

This version rocks my world too.

More industrial chic cabinets….

How about this vintage looking dining table with those swanky chrome pendants? Love the combo of shiny and beat up.

I thought this was just a pic of the chair they sell with some rad antique molding turned into a desk they styled for the shoot. But nope. You can buy that bad boy too and tell people you found it at some flea market in Paris and had it shipped back. I won’t tell.

Some delicious, simple, lovely upholstered beds.

I love it that so many of my favorite retailers or revamping their styles right now. I can’t wait to tell you about my endorphin inducing weekend shopping spree at, of all places, Ann Taylor….

Fashion Friday: This Week’s Best Finds!

Friday, August 28th, 2009
My random shopping notes from this week:

I went to J.Crew this week in search of pants. J.Crew pants have NEVER fit me so I’m not sure why I went there, but I must have been guided by the hand of the shopping gods because I hit gold, people. The whole line of toothpick ankle pants literally left me jumping up and down in the dressing room and not even caring that it wasn’t financially responsible for me to buy three new pairs of pants at once. I ended up justifying it as an “investment” since they will be on my body all fall. And winter, mind you, since they are also perfect for wearing under tall boots without the dreaded pant cuff roll bulging through from regular pants. You’ll probably see me and be all ” Hey Erin, don’t you think it’s time to wear some other pants?” To which I’ll reply “Hells no, not on your life.”

My Fall Uniform: my new jeans/shrunken blazer/ graphic tee/ layered chain +pearl+gemstone necklace/platform pumps/ striped scarf/messenger bag.

J.Crew Ankle Jeans

The Minnie pant is oh-so-Audrey. Going right in my suitcase for Paris because they look sleek and sexy with heels but cute and sweet with flats. Made in a super stretchy but substantial fabric they feel like wearing leggings but with more polish.

The toothpick ankle cord. I want them in all colors. Like, yesterday.

J.Crew Ankle Jeans by elementsofstyleblog featuring J Crew

Ok, moving on. Sorry, I’m just way excited about these pants.

Old Navy’s v-neck pocket tees are soft as anything and fit like an absolute DREAM (better than Madewell’s and for 1/4 of the price since they are on sale for $7.50 each!) Buy in bulk, you’ll wear them non-stop. Pair them with a printed scarf (also from Old Navy), jeans and these adorable cutout flats you’ve got a cute weekend outfit for next to nothing!

Ann Taylor has stepped it UP this season under the lead of their new designer. No longer a frumpy, business suit mecca they have added some seriously stylish stuff tot heir repetoire.
A couple perfect black dresses- for night or day.

A fabulous short jacket and leopard shift.

Loving this blouse with ruffle front detail and this clean cut fitted blazer

The accessories look ridiculously great- the perfect pump and slouchy bootie

Platform pump and leopard flat

Both these bags are bananas!

Happy fall shopping everyone!!! :)
