Kerri Russell & ABC Home

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

I really loved the laid back approachability of Kerri Russell’s Brooklyn home as shown in the current Elle Decor.  Not only is the raw space amazing (are you SEEING that molding in the living room?) but also the fact that she mixed goods from high end showrooms (like those insane Ochre chandeliers I would murder for) with stuff hand made by her husband from wood reclaimed from barns and dumpsters! I’ve been saying for months that if I finally do buy my home, I am doing everything in white, black, grey and natural wood. A clean, crisp but relaxing scheme that will give me respite from my days spent with dizzying pattern and color.  This home is such an inspiration for me!

The images of her home (and the resource lists) reminded me of my trip to ABC Carpet and Home during Blogfest.  If I had a gun to my head and had to decide on one place to decorate my house right now I’d pick ABC (and then I’d ninja kick whomever was decor-assaulting me).  Seriously, ABC is my version of Mecca and if you haven’t gone you really, really must make a pilgrimage!

A snapped just a couple things while there…like this amazing venetian glass chandelier that was the lightest of blues (and $10k)

And this beyond fabulous John Derian bench with small back and this dining table I would sell my soul for…

A nice collection of cloche jars and stone accents…

Beakers and drawers…

Such an amazing color combo- navy, blush, taupe and cream. Inspired to design a room around this…

GOLD flatware, how I love thee….

How about these pink chairs up in Madeline Weinrib’s showroom? Uh-huh.

Here’s some of my favorite things shown on their website:

EOS Chats with Lauren Santo Domingo

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

You can imagine my surprise and delight in receiving an email from fashionista and entrepreneur Lauren Santo Domingo last week. Especially since when said email was received, the Town & Country with her gorgeous mug on the cover sat square on my coffee table under my laptop. Lauren and business partner Anslag Magnusdottir (click to check out her closet on The Coveteur) have launched Moda Operandi, an online luxury goods retailer that allows you to shop the runways before anything even gets to the stores.  So basically, you get to shop like Lauren without being Lauren! Granted, you’ll need a pretty penny to snag some fresh off the runway Jason Wu, but the ability to even have the access to do so is revolutionary. Click HERE to request a membership!

And who better to launch such a venture than New York’s fashion darling? Some shots of Lauren’s enviable style:

I asked Lauren for a few of her insider favorites and she kindly obliged:

What are your three beauty products you simply cannot live without?

Koh Gen Do concealer, Trish McEvoy mascara and MAC lipstick in Ruffian Red (discontinued though…. I have 6 tubes left!)

What are the four items from your closet that you would chose above all others and why?

Proenza Schouler blazers- I live in them, and they are more dressed up than a cardigan

Celine sandals- very simple discreet heels- so refreshing after turbo platforms for so long!

Erdem cocktail dresses- they are perfect for getting a look that can take you from uptown to downtown.

My wedding and engagement rings.

What are your three favorite items from your home?

My Lalanne hippo bar, my bookshelves (I’m a big reader) and my baby nursery- I’m expecting my first in six weeks and couldn’t be more excited! (See more of her home in Vogue here)

Favorite flower?

Peony

Favorite items for spring 2011?

The whole Celine line- simple and chic.

What designer’s show do you never want to miss?

Proenza Schouler- always the most innovative of fashion week.

Thanks Lauren!
