Last Night I Dreamt of Paris

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

I did. It was lovely. I think I was lost somewhere in the Marais and just wandering around. Much better than my more recent dreams of being chased and killed thanks to the book I’m reading. I awoke and felt like looking around at French interiors and remembered that always carefully curated The Paris Apartment boutique.  Chock full of magnificent examples of Parisian style, both old and new. Check out some of these finds!

Lovely lucite chairs blending old style with new materials.

Some days I really think an ornate headboard like this would suit me.

Classic chairs and even more classic stripes.

Amazeballs.

Double amazeballs.

I am almost blind from the insane beauty of these antique doors!!!!! Can you imagine getting to put these in your home???

Lucite hardware and the coolest little phone there ever was. This out styles my Crackberry by tenfold.

That bench needs a home with me. So do those dining chairs.

A little Marie Antoinette ring tray. J’adore.

I could not love the note from Marilyn preserved in this tray any more! Love her.

The Apartment Where Time Stood Still

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

I have blogged about her before, but I think that Jamie Beck is one of the most talented photographers out there, bar none.  And this set of pictures from her “At Home With” series had me riveted.  It’s the apartment of a woman in her 90′s on Central Park South where it appears that it’s still the 50′s and Don Draper could walk through the door at any minute and offer you a cocktail.  There are so many interesting details that remind me of current trends, it shows you that almost everything in design is influenced by times past. Can’t you just imagine the life of this woman from these images of her home? The hot pink chairs, the glamorous vanity, the stocked bar and breathtaking views…. I can practically smell the Chanel No. 5 and hear the clinking of martini glasses….

The Ultimate Design Junkie Holiday Gift

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Have you noticed (you have, I know you have) that every room in a glossy design magazine is made all that more awesome by the draping of the iconic Hermes Avalon blanket? It is the ULTIMATE item to have in your living room not only because it’s clean geometry and subtle statement somehow manages to make every space it graces kick ass. It’s a fact.  Now, the tough part is that the regular size blanket, which is not even all cashmere, only PART cashmere, part wool, is a jaw-dropping $1,125. And now there is a GIANT version (which I can imagine would be a killer bedspread that will put you back over $2,000.  I will be the first to say this is RIDICULOUS. But, and you may no agree with this, an item like this is a forever piece. One that, if you don’t let your dogs chew their bully sticks all over it, could be passed down to another generation. Call me crazy, but sometime these overpriced, fancy label items are worth their money.

This room below makes me giddy- the leopard rug, the blanket and the slightly rustic accents…..

And remember when Mr. Big unceremoniously dumped Carrie at the altar, who was there to comfort her? Charlotte’s Hermes blanket, of course.
