The Gals of EGD’s Spring Wishlists!

I’m scooting to NYC for a quick meeting today and asked the girls in my office what they are lusting after for spring, both for their homes and their closets. I love how each person has unique taste- that variety is what makes our office work, and our work more interesting!

Team EGD’s Summer Picks!

My company may be called Erin Gates Design, but it’s certainly isn’t a one woman show.  I have two awesome ladies helping me out- my right hand woman Lindsey, whose been with me over three years and does anything and everything (I like to refer to her as “the unicorn” because she can do billing and design a room with equal skill, which is rare).  And recently we welcomed Allison to the team to assist with lots of stuff as well as helping get this books done. She is also a blogger, so pop on over to her site too!

Both these ladies have great taste and so I wanted to start sharing what is on THEIR wishlists these days! I pretty much also want everything they do, so it goes to show our team is on the same wavelength!

Pinch Me: Better Homes & Gardens Cover!

When I found out that my old bedroom was the cover shot for Better Homes & Gardens I couldn’t believe it.  I screamed, of course, but a part of me was like “I’m pretty sure I hallucinated that” and until I saw it I still kind of expected the magazine to arrive and have a cake on the cover instead. Well, it’s TRUE and I am shocked, honored, flattered and flabbergasted. My first cover. On a huge national magazine. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN TO ME????

It’s funny, since not only is this my old place in the city, but I only lived there for 8 months! But thanks to the amazing styling of Stacy Kunstel and the incredible photography of Michael Partenio (also the owners of Dunes & Duchess– check them out) we took some great images.  Go pick up a copy!  But in the meantime, here is the article:

A lot of people have asked about the bedding- it was from Lands End, but is no longer available!  Why don’t more affordable bedding producers make coral banded bedding??? Lamp by Jill Rosenwald, bench from Ballard Designs in Duralee fabric, nightstand and dresser are antiques, bed is Crate & Barrel, wall color is Elephant Skin by Behr (AWESOME color).

I had to share what is the best picture every take of all four of us too. :)

And they also filmed a video at the studio of some tips (and Lindsey and I being a little spastic over a magazine).  More proof of why I’ll never be a TV star.

We’re Looking for A Summer Intern!

Hey there design lovers, we at Erin Gates Design (that would be Lindsey and me) have a CRAZY, CRAZY busy spring and summer coming up, especially having to write and produce my book.  So we need an extra set of hands on deck to help us get all we have to get done… done. :) So here are the details:

WHERE: Our office in Boston’s Fort Point

WHEN: June- September (or as your schedule allows)

SCHEDULE: 2-3 days per week, 9-4 (with flexibility for shoots)

* Must have a car.  There will be lots of errands to run (to the design center, framers, flower market, etc) so you need to have a car and a valid license. I will compensate parking fees and gas mileage.

* Must know how to use a Mac and MS Office (preferably Photoshop as well!)

* Must have a cell phone. (Does anyone not have one? Do I have to say this?)

* Must have sincere interest in interior design and the business of design.  Any skills in book development a BIG plus (photography, photo research, styling, etc.)

* Must be reasonably eloquent on the phone and over e-mail.  We have clients to impress. :)

* Must be ORGANIZED, we have so much going on we need someone who is good at keeping track of details.

DETAILS:  You’ll be a Jane/Jack of All Trades.  Must be comfortable making calls, composing charming e-mails and running errands in the city (and out of the city).  You’ll be needed to help research photography rights, collecting images and all pertinent info, requesting samples, quotes and information about design items.  You’ll help coordinate deliveries, installations and applicable vendor site visits.  You’ll help us style projects for photoshoots and be on set to assist in shoots (or stay back in the office to get busy work done while we are out at shoots- it will depend!)  You will help coordinate schedules and communicate with clients about their orders and designs. You will need to go to the design center to fetch samples and return them.  You will also have to do some not so amazing tasks like help clean/ organize the studio, organize samples, grab coffee/ lunch and maybe even walk the dogs a couple times if needed (but I usually like to do it myself).

We have an amazingly fun studio atmosphere (with lots of dogs so you have to be down with the canines) and this is a pretty cool job.  It’ll be a ton of hard work, but also a great experience and very valuable if you are interested in this field.

**Please send all resumes to Lindsey Retelle who will collect them for review:

New Digs for EOS!

Last week I decided to make the leap from a home business to one with an honest to goodness office. In February, after some renovations, I will be moving my business into a fabulous studio loft in the Fort Point neighborhood of Boston. Remember this fun place I blogged about before? Yep, I am shacking up with all those talented, funny, awesome people-plus some others who are moving in too!  The creative brain power will probably create it’s own energy source there will be so much of it. And of course, I’m really excited to decorate it!  Right now it looks like a big, screaming mess- but there will be some refurbished and repainted walls and ceiling, a smooth concrete floor and lighting to have as much jumping off point.  Now if only I could decide on what I wanted to do to it! I am having them leave the walls that have this fabulous textured pattern on them- how cool!

Baxter and Oliver will have to get used to coming to work with Mommy- but I bet they’ll be happy to considering our OTHER furry adorable studio playmate- Oscar!

For lighting I am thinking of hanging 6 of one of these IKEA fixtures:

Of course, I’ll need tons of storage- naturally I will use lots of IKEA bookshelves which are pretty sleek and affordable:

I think I want my desk to be skirted like Michelle Adams’ from Lonny and Rubie Green, but I may just use a few of these elegant but industrial ones as well. Also from IKEA. Of course.

I am certainly going to use these pair of gorgeous cane detailed wingback chairs in there (once I repaint white and re-upholster is something divine!)

I have a feeling I might get to imbibe in my black paint fix in this space- just one wall- maybe in chalkboard paint which is what Jenna Lyons used in her bedroom. That way I could actually use it to remind myself to stay on take because now I have RENT TO PAY. Kind of like this delightful office from Domino:

A couple other office spaces I fancy:

The wall in this office is made entirely out of old magazines- I seriously think I have hoarded enough to replicate this…
