A True Prep Summer

Monday, April 11th, 2011

I am feeling preppy lately. And if you’ve known me beyond this blog you know that I have preppiness in my blood. As a product of an all girls boarding school with notable alums named Jackie, Lilly and Polly and someone who spent summers on the New England shore I have a pretty refined preppy palette.  Over the years it’s faded and been covered up by other aesthetics but it’s still style most ingrained in me.  And lately I feel it coming back, but in a more modern way.  Long gone are the days of Lilly dresses (and forcing my now husband to wear a matching Lilly tie-UGH) and men’s J.Crew cable sweaters and hair bows- but here are some images that are really inspiring me for this summer- both in my home and closet:

Some fun modern preppy details for home and self:

A new take on the classic American craftsmanship from O&G Studio

Nautical rope bracelets get hip with dip dye from A+R Store

These prints (from Etsy seller RococcoCo.) done on old dictionary pages would make an incredible series on a wall.

Boat shoes are BACK for spring- Cole Haan and classic Sperry Top Sider among them.

Anthropologie has a cute striped blazer with nautical buttons you could don while sipping a G&T in their cool outdoor rattan chair!

The Look of Irving & Fine

Monday, March 21st, 2011

I have had the Irving and Fine site bookmarked for-evah.  I’ve so admired the style of it’s two founders Lisa Fine and Carolina Irving since I spotted their homes and fashion wares in the likes of Lonny and Elle Decor.  As I ponder warmer weather, my desire to wear boho-chic inspired styles grows exponentially- gauzy cottons, breezy linens and bright colors and embroidery just make me smile. By why limit it to your wardrobe? Do some spring cleaning in your home too!  It’s such a great idea to swap out little things like duvet covers and throw pillows with the seasons- store the velvet and heavier fabrics in favor of bright linen and bold color (or crisp white) Indian block prints or the like.

Here is the home of Carolina Irving (via Lonny):

And here are the items from their line Irving and Fine that I am dying for (available online via Indagare Souk)

This leopard coat I NEED (despite some people’s opinion that leopard is not chic-ahem!- wink, wink)

So cute on these lovely women:

Each woman also has their own home textile company (geeez!)

Lifestyle Lust: EmersonMade

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

When I got my most recent issue of Boston Magazine Home I was delighted to see Emerson and Ryan of EmersonMade on the cover at their deliriously adorable farmhouse in New Hampshire.  I’ve seen peeks inside their home before but I still loved this spread and figured that sicne a whole lot of you don’t live in New England I’d scan it in for you to see!

If I didn’t like them, I’d hate them. How perfect does their life look?

This kitchen kills me- the bead board and raw beam ceiling, wide plank floors and check out that industrial size fridge!

Vintage chandy in the “game room” and more country details from the kitchen.

The details.

These beds are the same beds Emerson’s mom and aunt slept in as kids. She painted them yellow and I ADORE them.

The Nest also featured photos of them (by David A. Land). The living room is perfection!

Her now famous pantry. I will never, ever be this organized or this organic.  If I had a pantry like this it would be stocked with PopChips, ugly soup cans,  Wheat Thins and other mass market products because that’s how I roll, unfortunately.

DYING for this little Mod dress from their spring collection! Looks like the perfect thing to just pop in with a great necklace and flats on a summer day!
