Pondering Henry’s Big Boy Room

When I designed Henry’s nursery I purposely took a serene, babyish angle because I knew that his future room (rooms– lets be honest, I’m a designer) would be more bold and boyish.  I also did/ don’t know if I’ll be able to have another baby so I wanted to go all out with the baby-ish look.

Well, now he’s a tiny person with a (vocal) penchant for animals, cars & trucks (tractors and lawnmowers, specifically) and a SERIOUS addiction to Curious George. Oh, and more recently dinosaurs.  So we’ve got a BOY on our hands now, and I feel like I’m going to need (want) to do a new room for him sooner rather than later. So I’ve been scheming. And have settled on a blue and red scheme (mostly because I saw this stripe Farrow & Ball paper go up on Amy Berry’s Instagram and instantly knew I needed to do it for Henry.)  So I’ve been scheming a bit and since one of you suggested I post about this thought I’d flush my ideas out a little further.

So here is where I am on the room. The striped walls and a navy upholstered daybed (made by LivenUp Design) with a trundle for future sleepovers. I’m loving this Peter Dunham star fabric for roman shades.  I love the look of a vintage Heriz rug for the floor in here. It’s tough and hides a lot and looks pretty cool, in my opinion.  I’d keep his changing table since it’s really a dresser and I love it. As well as his big Sharon Montrose lion photograph (because he is very into Lion King). I’d top the dresser with a shiny red Dunes & Duchess lamp.  It’s wood, so it won’t break if it gets pulled over.

Jorey Hurley’s Gorgeous Prints

I figured something light and bright was needed today and so I wanted to share the work of Jorey Hurley that I found on Etsy who does the best prints for kids rooms (and some for any kind of room). I love the style, the modern edge and the bold color. Available from 8″ x 10″ to 30″ x 40″, these would look great in groupings or on their own. I have my eye on some for Henry’s eventual big boy room.

I’d LOVE to do a whole wall of her alphabet prints in a playroom. Would be stunning and huge. :)

There are also some cool prints for grown ups too.

Have a sunny day everyone.

Fabulous Kids Room Finds From Etsy

We’ve been doing a lot of kids rooms and nurseries lately (most of them e-design, actually- it works so well for this type of room) and I have found myself sourcing more and more from Etsy for unique and custom offerings.  I absolutely LOVE finding completely off the radar items for any space in the home, including nurseries and kid spaces.  From antiques to custom bedding, you can really source some incredible stuff with a little legwork.  Or I can share some favorites and make it a little easier for you… :)

PBKids Perfection!

Pottery Barn Kids has been KILLING IT lately- and the most recent catalog I got was no exception. It makes me so excited to do a big boy room for Henry some day (or a little girls room- although right now while deep in the 4 month sleep regression stage I wonder why ANYONE has a second kid). I digress- this stuff is so good, and a lot of it could easily be used in room for people of any age!

Especially lovely is the Monique Lhuillier Collection– like this incredible canopy bed. It’s such girly perfection!!!

Random Goodness: Unbelievably Chic Highchair

I am not in “the family way” yet, so don’t go reading into this- I simply saw this Ovo high chair and yelled aloud “OHMYGOD! That is the best children’s design I have ever seen!!!!!!!” I mean, look at this thing, it’s freakin’ GENIUS.  No longer an eyesore in your dining room or kitchen, this high chair would actually UPGRADE most interiors. No joke. I am head over heels.  And of course, as expected, it has the price tag to match- and of course is only available on European sites for a painful 349 euros (about $477 for us).  But given how much you use this thing and it’s flexibility (it transforms into a toddler chair) I think it’s worth the investment. Not to jinx myself, but I am almost tempted to buy it and stash it for whenever Baby Gates decides to come our way. Is that creepy?

Buy the white and deep navy chairs on this site. Also available with faux leather harness straps for a little more money.

If that’s the packaging this thing comes in then it’s even better. It’s not even fair to American high chairs.
