Back To Reality.

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I hope you all had a magnificent holiday! It’s so hard to come back to real life- even the pseudo real life that exists between Xmas and New Years.  I have a few things to do, but not a lot so it’s a nice week to putter and do some shopping at the post-holiday sales!

As for my holiday- it was great, despite the fact that I was pretty darn sick for most of our visit to North Carolina.  A brutal cold sidelined me, from which I am just now feeling better. I have to admit, I feel like I kind of half-assed Christmas this year. I only got half my cards out, did not decorate beyond a tree and really did not get into the merriment and festivity of the season.  I like to call it “My Hot Mess Christmas”. There’s a lot on my plate right now plus the economy took a toll and I let that totally get the best of me this year. So here I am, proclaiming that next year I will rock out Christmas- bake goodies, get cards out on time, shop early and have a party. Mark my words, readers!

Santa did bring me a MacBook Pro so I can blog from everywhere now, which is really exciting. I also got some other great things on my list- Child perfume, a cobalt blue Nano, my black Converse All Stars and lots of other goodies. The one gift I am up in the air about was the hand held video camera Andrew got me. He bought it so I could video blog for you guys, but I’m not sure that’s something that applies here. Thoughts???

O Christmas Tree

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Like many things (homes, weddings, clothing styles) I appreciate such a  variety of styles. This also holds true for Christmas decor, specifically trees. I love all the different style sof trees-modern, country, eclectic, matchy matchy, etc.  Here are a few of my favorites:

My Serene Dream Home Tree (which magically would negate all holiday tension and stress)

Christmas-Tree-White-Room-HTOURS1206-de

My Remote Country House Tree (which causes inexplicable desires to bake cinnamon scented goodies)

living-room-swedish-1209-de

My California Home Outdoor Tree (perfect for drinking cold beverages around and laughing at those who live where it snows)

My City Living Tree (because to get a big tree would require removing the sofa from the apartment)

Mini-Christmas-Tree-Birds-GTL1206-de

My Uber-Modern Designer Chic Tree (because retro is sooooooo in, even at Xmas)

My Unabashedly Girlie Tree (pink, pink and more pink-who says it has to be green and white)

I hope everyone is getting their shopping done and getting ready for some time off!

Fashion Friday: A Holiday Room to Outfit

Friday, December 18th, 2009
When I saw these pictures of Mary McDonald’s holiday decorations in her Beverly Hills home I fell in love with the blue-grey, cream and green color combination glammed up with shots of gold and crystal.  I immediately thought “Could I turn this into a festive holiday outfit?” mcdonald-beverly-hills-1108-110_lg

I gave it a go, and went a bit out of my comfort zone and combined a casual, traditional menswear inspired blue button down with an uber-feminine sequined mini.  Add in some sparkly gold and crystal accents (playing off the chandelier and mirror) and top it off with a cream classic wool coat and you’ve got a preppy-luxe outfit that will have party goers impressed with your ability to mix and match.

Gift Guide: For Home

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

My final gift guide with items for the home.  This year I tried especially hard to keep my recommendations budget friendly because there is nothing worse than seeing a gift idea in a magazine that is so perfect and then reading in the notes that it’s merely $795.

Gift a cozy night in with this fabulous cookbook and nature inspired set of serving spoons.

Picture 19Picture 18

A beautiful glass set perfect for a Christmas cocktail, from Tonic Home. To make it a really complete gift add this drink book- “The Bon Viviants Companion”.

I think this wildflowers poster/forever calendar is stunning. pop it in an Ikea frame and it’s a very impressive gift for the decoratively obsessed.

Picture 14These custom silhouette ornaments would be an amazing keepsake for any family- each stamped with individual names.

I know I’ve said it before, but I think a faux fur throw is perfect for the chilly holidays!

Gift Guide: For Her

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

This guide could be about 1,000 items long- there is so much good stuff out there! But here are some of my most favorite items for those of the female persuasion this year!

** Click on item name in grey for the links!

Lots of people have or will get Kindle’s this X-mas- dress hers up with this awesome Halsea cover?

Picture 2I’ve been coveting the Hermes double wrap Cape Cod watch for a while now- these watches by La Mer collection (which you can custom design, even with added chains, studs, colors and charms) have a similar look for under $100 for most of them! I’d love one!

Picture 13Picture 15

Picture 14Picture 6

Both myself and my fashion styling partner bought this ruffle cardi-jacket from Anthropologie weeks ago without realizing it. It’s my favorite for fall and a GREAT gift for a woman of any age/shape! Available in a few colors!

Picture 16If someone needs ruffles of a more “snuggly” variety give them this amazing robe by Undrest.  It was given to me by a girlfriend who has one and we both LOVE how comfy and yet flattering and sexy it is! (Note: sizing runs small, order up)

Picture 18For the yogini in your life gift her with the BEST yoga mat on the planet by Jade (your hands and feet feel superglued to the floor).  It comes in fun colors with decorative edging which will make her smile during her down dog. Pair it with Mandy Ingber’s new DVD (Jannifer Aniston’s yoga teacher) for a sweet package deal!

Picture 19Picture 20

For under $85 each, these bags are totally high style!

Picture 22

We all love J.Crew- that’s a fact. Why not gift her with this delicious bracelet or a animal print belt- both things she may not buy for herself but would love to have!

Picture 25Picture 26

Personalized staionery is always a lovely little gift- I adore these zig zag sets from Pink Loves Brown.

Picture 27For the beauty queen treat her to Bobbi Brown’s newest book and a lip gloss or eyeshadow palette!

Picture 28Picture 29Picture 30

For the chef, how about this mod Dwell apron and a set of these recipe stickers for her cookbooks?

Picture 31Picture 32

For the Apple addict- these leather cases for iPhones and iPods from AB Sutton are amazing! But why no CrackBerry ones??? :(

HAPPY SHOPPING!

Holiday 09: My List

Monday, December 7th, 2009

This Christmas isn’t a big one, nor a particularly exciting one, since what I really need is a laptop. Also cramping my style is the fact that J.Crew is sold out of the winter coat I want (the Ingenue in sea salt).  So here is my list of the bits and pieces that make up my wish list for Santa. Because this year I choose to believe.

A big ol’ bottle of my fave perfume, Child, from Fred Segal.

Picture 15

A Chan Luu wrap bracelet. It’s been on my list all year.

Picture 18

A pair of black Chuck Taylors.

Picture 20

Luscious bath stuff, like Bliss’ Lemon + Sage body scrub and body butter to get rid of dull winter skin.

Picture 22Picture 21

Big surprise- I want more yoga clothes. These Hard Tail pants with fold down tattoo print are right up my alley as is this great top from Athleta.

Picture 24Picture 25

These AMAZING cropped  jeans from J.Crew that are a little bit rock-n-roll, a little bit Audrey Hepburn and perfectly me!

Picture 26I also need more scarves to add to me psychotic scarf collection- loving this cheetah Rachel Zoe one and a nice solid infinity scarf, like this one from Roxy.

Picture 27Picture 28

This poster by Jennifer Ramos would be perfect for my new office! I even have that frame already…

Gift Guide: For Him

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Guys are quite hard to buy for.  You can always go the clothing route (more collared shirts and boxers, yay!) or the video game route (Call of Duty:Urban Warfare, yay!) OR you can try your darndest to get something rather clever for him that he wouldn’t ever think he needed or wanted. I hope these few ideas perk up your imagination when buying for the men in your lives!

You can design a custom pair of Chuck Taylors on the Converse website for your hipper than hip fella. Pretty cool.

Picture 14Picture 15

Another way to create a custom gift is by logging onto the Blank Label site and create a dress shirt made specifically for your guy! Pick collar style, fabric and many other fun details- all for less than $100!

Picture 33For the guy who likes a stiff cocktail, why not put together a bottle of whisky (I’m obsessed with this Dalmore bottle and packaging) and these whisky stones?  Gives a new, literal meaning to the phrase “on the rocks”. (P.S.-Am I the only person who thought whisky had an “e” in it?)

Picture 16Picture 18

Have a pair of cuff links made from a map of someplace that means something to him by Chart Metalworks- a very thoughtful and unique gift.

Picture 19For the guy who’s always fixing things and being handy, this MagWear wristband uses magnets to keep all sorts of nails, screws, etc. in a very handy place (as in not in between the teeth) :)

Picture 20

For the music snob, the “1,000 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die” book, a great pair of headphones and this hilarious mouse pad!

Picture 21Picture 22Picture 23

Got an eco-minded guy who needs a little help getting his act together? This gift set is great!

Picture 24Got a guy who LOVES to sing- but perhaps only in the privacy of his own home- this iKaraoke gadget cracked me up!

Picture 25Perhaps your dad gets frustrated with the three remotes it takes to watch a DVD? Get him this touch screen all in one remote to make things easier (after YOU program it, of course).

Picture 26I think this is the perfect guy sweater for winter! And I love a guy in a plaid shirt, Gap has some really great looking ones.

Picture 27Picture 29

Creed’s Green Irish Tweed is the best smelling mens cologne I’ve ever come across (pricey, but worth it!)

Picture 28Got a foodie on your hands? Try this cheese sampler from the DELICIOUS Cowgirl Creamery in California!

Picture 30For your little brother- arm him with this book “How To Carve A Turkey and 99 Other Skills Every Man Should Know”. Ok, maybe your little brother isn’t the only one who needs this….

Picture 31Coming at you tomorrow and Wednesday, the final two guides- FOR HER and FOR HOME!

Fashion Friday: Holiday Dressing

Friday, December 4th, 2009
We all have a variety of events to attend over the holiday season that require various types of outfits.  This can prove stressful for us all (cue closet-front meltdown and wails of “I hate everything in here!”), so I put together four different outfits to give you ideas for how to dress for each of them! Have a happy, happy weekend!

I promise to be REALLY GOOD this year if you promise to smuggle this little Marco Bicego multi-strand bracelet into my stocking.
Cross my heart and hope to die.
