Now, don’t worry Mom, I prepared this year- but in case you guys are all “Shoot! It’s Mother’s Day this weekend??” here are some ideas that are available right now!

mom

2. Wine. Always. Forever. Pick up on your way to visit, you ARE the reason she drinks after all…. ;)

3. A great book about hand-me-downs and familial style, Heirloom Modern via Amazon.com (overnight it!) or pop into a local book store!

4. Cupcakes! Bake them yourself, or buy a box at one of the zillion cupcake shops out there now. No one hates cupcakes.

5. I have this great popover top from J.Crew and LOVE it (wore it here-follow me!).  Flattering on everyone and ageless… oh, and in stock in your local store.

6. A Stella & Dot gift certificate delivered to her inbox instantly! So many fun new things including scarves and bags!

One of you can give your Mom (or yourself perhaps, if you are a tired Mom, or need a break from your Mom, or are trying to become a Mom ….ba-dum-dum!!) a $200 gift certificate for a getaway to the English Meadow Inn in Kennebunkport, Maine!  Andrew and I like to jet up there for a little quiet getaway by the ocean and luck you can now have the opportunity to go or give a getaway to someone deserving.  Just like their page on Facebook and leave a comment about which room you’d hope to stay in. I’ll pick the winner and email them TOMORROW AFTERNOON AT 4PM (just in case you do want to give this as a gift!)

Matouk Bedding Giveaway

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

I thought the best “back to normal” post I could do today would be an amazing giveaway, to spread some cheer and happiness to others. So here it is! Matouk is an amazing luxury bedding company, as you may know, and they happen to be a Massachusetts based company as well (Boston Strong, people!) Andrew and I have never spent a lot on sheets because 1) we have dogs who sleep on the bed and are, well, DOGS and 2) we are apparently gross.  Between self-tanner and “I am too lazy to take my makeup off” nights, my sheets never stay crisp white.  But the other night I happened to notice that my sheets from a discount store were pilling after just two washes!  So I was so excited when Matouk asked to partner up for a giveaway, because (full disclosure) I got sent a set of their Lowell sheets to try. Um, LOVE. So smooth and crisp and hotel-like- so much nicer to get into at night!  I made the bed up all nice (Baxter and Oliver got yelled at and tossed off several times in the process) and snapped some pictures even though my bedroom is not nearly “done”. Not even close, so no judging!

I chose the black banded sheets which just happen to match my duvet TO A T! :)

I had a custom bed pillow made from some favorite Kelly Wearstler fabric, which I love.

(Side note- check out my KILLER monogram done by Monogram Goods!  They actually work exclusively on Matouk bedding!)

Fashion Friday: Shoemint Giveaway!

Friday, January 11th, 2013

Who doesn’t want a new pair of shoes? C’mon! I never was a shoe girl…until recently.  All of the sudden I find myself coveting all sorts of kicks- those I can’t even fathom affording and those I can buy in bulk.  But most of my shoes fall in the in between, which is why I’m psyched to have discovered Shoemint.  Each pair is $79.98 (when not on sale, which a lot are right now) and exclusive to the site. And today I get to give away a pair to THREE lucky readers- any pair you wish! Just sign up for Shoemint and leave a comment with the pair you want and I’ll pick three winners next week!

(I have these wedge booties below and they are awesome.)

Here’s a little outfit base don a cool pair of Shoemint boots I’m loving- and this fur trimmed style anorak is the jacket on EVERY girl in Manhattan, I swear.

Kitchen Update + Cultivate Giveaway!

Monday, December 10th, 2012

So we are counting the days until our dated, creaky kitchen is demolished and my vision for the new space begins to become a reality.  I don’t even know how I will deal with having a dishwasher and disposal again!!!! Never mind a new fridge and gas range! EEEEKKKKS! January 2nd is the day we start and we hop to have it all done by early/mid February (including re-staining ALL our floors dark walnut!)

The process has not been easy- making decisions for myself, especially on this scale, is BEYOND difficult.  I knew basically what I wanted but the devil is in the details!  Like picking a grey for the base cabinets! Holy crap, you would have thought I was trying to solve the Middle East peace crisis! I often would melt down into “Carrie Mathison Face” while painting yet ANOTHER swatch on the old doors wailing “whhhyyyy can’t I find a neutral grey, Saul? Whyyyyy?” (If you don’t watch Homeland a) you won’t get that and b) WHY AREN’T YOU WATCHING HOMELAND YOU CRAZY PERSON????)

All Benjamin Moore: Grey Huskie (out of running because it turned purple),Cape May Cobblestone (finalist), Secret (finalist), Platinum Grey (finalist), Storm (too blue)

So we are really down to the three in the middle and of those it appears Cape May Cobblestone is the winner.  Secret is amazing and looks awesome with our hardware BUT the floors are going to be dark and the upper cabinets and wall tile white and I don;t want it to feel bottom heavy.

We are working with Sygma Stone for our counters and we found our winner this weekend: meet our new countertop, Miss White Macaubas (aka Bianco Macabas aka Luce de Luna). A gorgeous Brazilian quartzite that is as durable as granite but looks more like marble.  And costs twice as much as marble. BUT our kitchen is small and I absolutely love it so we’re springing for it.

OMG, I am in love.

Other decisions are the appliances (all Jenn Air, way excited) via Yale Appliances, a GORGEOUS Blanco modern farm sink, a Rohl faucet and my beloved Hicks pendants via Waterspot in Natick, MA… and some delicious matte brass pulls!

Yes, I’m mixing metals. And no that does not bother me.

What I’ve learned about kitchens is that you need to collect a ton of inspiration and then really think hard about function.  A great new place to gather kitchen inspiration is Cultivate.com from the great peeps at Williams Sonoma!  Here are some kitchens I found on there that inspire me (and explain why I have had such trouble- I love SO MANY different types of kitchens!)

Need some help sorting through styles (and want a $200 gift certificate for any WS store?) The take the Cultivate style quiz and post your results in the comments and have a chance to win one!!!

My result was Transitional- which is totally on target. How about you?

Homegoods Stylescope Giveaway!!!!

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

Since most of my money is being earmarked for my upcoming kitchen renovation I have seriously limited funds to start decorating the rooms in my house we are not gutting.  So I took my bargain-hunting self to Homegoods the other day to see what I could find. I found some great basics for a song (bath accessories, sheets and even Halloween costumes for the pups) but I am kicking myself for not buying a few of the things I saw, and may have to go back and see if they are still there!

Check out this amazing little bench for $75 and glossy black greyhound sculpture also for about the same price. Particularly pissed I did not just buy the bench for my living room. Had sweet brass nailheads on it too! I think I have to drive back.

Awesome Missoni-esque throw pillows (with down fillers- beats those cheap awful fillers you find at big box stores) and this adorable fabric covered wastebasket which would be so cute in a bathroom, office or kids room!

I am on the hunt for new lamps for my master bedroom- and while I couldn’t find any that were JUST right on this visit, they always have new products all the time so I’ll just have to keep looking. I did love this white lamps (only one of each available) and these wooden lamps were AMAZING (little brass cuffs at the neck too) but I didn’t know where they would go!

Homegoods is the best place for dishware and serving pieces- this huge selection of all white pieces is awesome to make open kitchen shelving look its best! And I adored this grouping of emerald green, black and white floral and natural wood I saw on a shelf. Would make a great combo for a dinner party!

I LOVED these stone calligraphy brushes- they look so great on a coffee table or console with other accessories. I bought the mint one and it’s on my bar now.

Homegoods paired with HGTV designer Taniya Nayak to create their Stylescope quiz to help people not only figure out their style but give them resources to help find inspiration via Pinterest and blogs!  They asked me to participate and after looking at my blog and design work paired me with the “Socialite” style- inspired by fashion and glamour.  Although lately I’ve just been hiding in my house by the fire, I don;t quite feel like a socialite, but I’ll take it! :)

So, here’s where you come in. Take the Stylescope quiz here and post your result in comments for a chance to win one of THREE gift cards to Homegoods (I have two $100 and one $50 to give away!) May the odds be ever in your favor… (see, I’m a dork, not a socialite!)
