From the Genius Files

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

I discovered this on my good friend Julie’s blog this week and HAD to share because frankly, it’s so brilliant I wish I had thought of it. And bonus points, these girls are from Boston so high fives all around.  O’verlays are fretwork panels made of paintable, slightly flexible material that are sized to fit IKEA furniture items such as tables and dressers.  Founders Danika and Cheryle got the idea from one of Danika’s interior projects in which she used vintage fretwork panels she found and some plain mirror to totally tranform some plain IKEA wardrobes- check out the “after”:

And so O’verlays were born! And check out what you can do with them! I am so enamored with this concept!!!

Love this ring pattern (and that China Seas wallpaper too…)

Amazeballs for a little girl’s room.

You know if you slap greek key on anything I’ll swoon!

Ditto.

Double ditto.

The ability to paint in any shade makes the options endless! This gold and blue is so pretty!

You can fit them as privacy screens (or tot he back of LACK or EXPEDIT shelving!)

Or to make bland doors look more custom!

Place under glass on a table to add some pattern…

Or create a border under moulding (the greek key would be especially baller in this application)

Love at First Sight…

The second I saw this adorable Maryland cottage in Southern Living I fell in love. I am determined to live in a cottage someday, hopefully just like this one!! As I stress over our current living situation (very complicated, but if anyone has a condo for sale or rent in the south end, hit a sister up) I am so drawn the the peace and coziness of a home like this.

Adore this pink scheme in the living room and the clever use of wallpaper in the built in glass doors to hide clutter.

More little touches to conceal the clutter children bring (I’d have added some contrast trim though…just sayin’)

Dramatic wall color= favesies.

IKEA + marble= a high/low mix that makes the final result look all high end!

Another example- IKEA table, vintage chairs found for a steal and reupholstered in high end outdoor fabric!

Off yo NYC for an exciting client meeting! Catch ya on the flip flop.

Fashion Friday: Painterly Inspiration

I was so floored by the genius I spotted on painter Michelle Armas’ blog yesterday- in cahoots with Once Wed these painterly inspired tablescapes and florals were photographed- complete with glass votives painted on the inside to mimic the glass Michelle uses for water (or turp) while creating her masterpieces! Such a fabulous idea for an artsy couple getting married- and how DROP DEAD are these florals?

Some of Michelle’s Paintings (which I adore- she does commissions too!)

Michelle also just renovated her kitchen and I love her choices- the cabinetry color, rustic subways tile and this matte brass hardware, all delicious (I said that in a Martyn voice, BTW)

Here are some painterly inspired piece to wear if you aren’t the canvas and brushed type.  Perfect for summer!
