Flower Power: Hana Floral Design

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014

My dear assistant/ project manager/ right hand Lindsey is getting married this weekend (YAY LINDSEY!) and so I felt inspired to share the beautiful work of a floral designer that I found on Instagram (who also just happens to be located in the area where my family has a beach house!)  Hana Floral Design in Mystic, CT is run by Yumiko Fletcher who clearly is a GENIUS with flowers.  I loved my wedding flowers, but if I were to do it again, I would hire her in a nanosecond.  Perhaps when Andrew and I renew our vows next year for our 10th anniversary (sidenote: is that sweet or tacky? I can’t tell… also, how the hell has it been TEN YEARS?) we’ll get Yumiko to do something small for us. :)

In the meantime, take a gander at these STUNNING arrangements (and follow her Instagram if you love seeing more of this!)

If you have time next Saturday please come by Calypso Newbury Street for an event I’m hosting with them supporting Covenant House, a great charity assistant homeless youth.  If you bring a gently worn sweater to the party you’ll get 20% off a new sweater at Calypso! And let me tell you, there are some AWESOME ones available right now.  I’ll help you pick one out. :)

Beyond sweaters, there are some insane holiday looks too- I picked up this incredible dress I plan to wear to a party or to, as well as this cozy cashmere sweater with the perfect turtleneck!

Absolutely LOVING this jacket with the tassels- paired with leather pants or jeans and black heels it would be amazing.  As for this cashmere tunic dress- i saw it in the store and molested the mannequin wearing it. SO. GOOD.  I could see myself floating around a grand house in this with a champagne cocktail in one hand….

Sequin stripe pants really say “HOLIDAYS!!!!” while a fair isle cardigan says laid back cozy.

This stripe sweater fits amazing. Adore it. Equally enchanted with this sequin embroidered blouse.

Die for this gold and black top. Seriously. Elegant but comfortable.  And this sequin stripe sweater dress is the LBD for the holiday season.

Oh to have the right occassion to wear this strapless gold sequin dress. It’s just heaven.  I’m more likely to wear something like this cardigan instead!

I really hope you’ll come by and say hi!!!! Another great chance to do good while shopping this year!

Before we get down the nitty gritty of design and all sorts of decorating goodness I have to share these two upcoming events in the Boston area (actually, in the Chestnut Hill area- my new stomping grounds).  The first is the opening party for J. McLaughlin at The Street Chestnut Hill hosted my yours truly and my better half, Andrew, as well.  November 21st. Bring you fellas and come party with us:

A portion of proceeds from he night’s sales will be donated to the AMAZING Animal Rescue League , a foundation near and dear to my heart.  They do such amazing work and I really want to make sure our donation is substantial.

PLUS you’ll get the chance to see Andrew rockin’ his new “Christmas pants“! I mean, come on, you HAVE to come now.

I also will be clutching onto this with my life because I love it. RSVP to the address above in the invite!

Also, next weekend there is an awesome event  at Bloomingdale’s at the Chestnut Hill Mall, at which there is ALL sorts of fabulousness going down including a Two Penny Blue trunk show. If you’ve been dying to see the jackets in person, this is your chance to see them and try one on. The fall collection was just released so there are some new goodies to see too (like this leather collar number that rocks my world). Here are all the details- mimosas, discounts and a gift bag- plus it benefits an AMAZING charity!

Bonjour, lover.

BUY TICKETS HERE! I’ll be there for the latter part of it at the Two Penny Blue table so come say hi.

So many fun events coming up for the holiday season- I hope I’ll get to meet a bunch of you at one!

Party Down.

A few images from our small party for Andrew this weekend- I was so frantic I didn’t get to take a single shot but thankfully Sarah was there and capture a few snaps (mixed in with my pre-party instagrams).

The cutest pic of Andrew from when he was little- double stripes? No wonder I love him.

Yep- I went with the sputnik light. And I LOVE it. I also rented a black and white stripe tablecloth from La Tavola Linens,  ghost chairs from PBD Events and pulled together a centerpiece from bunches grabbed at the flower market (in a Target vase).

Subconsciously bought Line 39 cab- perfect for turning the big 4-0. :)  Bought a bunch of glasses from IKEA because they were cheaper then renting- a pack of 6 wine glasses for $4.75!  The napkins I got through For Your Party.

Details from the house I’m loving.

A quick pre-party shot of the living room with our new coffee table, side tables, lamps, rug and pillows. :)

The flowers- wanted them to be more English garden then uptight. Love how they came out.

Living room shot featuring my fave side table (similar) and Mitchell Gold chair- complete with arrangement sent over by friends.

The party begins.

Andrew’s favorite things- scotch and North Carolina BBQ!!!

The sunroom with our new Peter Dunham pillows which I looooove and a Dash & Albert indoor/outdoor rug.

My mom made one of her famous cheesecakes (Andrew’s favorite).

Another sunroom shot (complete with Baxter butt and knocked over books– but hey, it’s life).

Yesterday I spent in this spot on the couch ALL DAY with this view (never drinking champagne AGAIN.  At least not until next weekend.)  I have not spent a whole day in sweats on the couch since I can’t remember when and you know what? I needed it.

The party was great incentive to get our house done and now that it’s in a good place (minus dining chairs) we can get back to enjoying our weekend doing OTHER things like spending time outside, going to museums and movies and soon- working in the yard.  FINALLY.

I’m super psyched to announce that on Monday February 11 (as in, NEXT MONDAY) Andrew and I will be the speakers at Boston Design Salon at 6:30 at the lovely Twelve Chairs shop on A Street in South Boston.  A first for us, and for Design Salon (who have never had a dude speak before- go Andy!)  There are a lot of business people and entrepreneurs who read this blog and are members of Design Salon that want to know more about selling, and what Andrew and I offer is a “he said/ she said” approach to the art of selling.  You see, I am super timid about selling and being sold to.  I get annoyed by pushy sales people and do everything (probably to a fault) to try to NOT to be a pushy seller to my clients (even when I KNOW something I have picked would be beyond perfect for their space).  Andrew, on the other hand, loves working a trade show, any retail opportunity and thinks cold calls are “a fun challenge” (I’d rather go get a root canal).  I have the challenge of selling myself as a brand (including monetizing my blog and developing partnerships), while Andrew has the challenge of selling to others and managing those relationships. Together I think we have a good amount of experience that might offer some tips to others.

It’s bound to be an off the cuff, fun, open discussion about selling and being in business.  I really hope some of you will come and join the party!  I’d love to meet more of you and hope that we could help out in any way we can! Plus I can guarantee there will be a boatload of this on my part behind Andrew’s back:
