My Favorite DIY Hack.

When I was finishing up my former master bedroom I really wanted to share how great this little project came out but couldn’t because I had to wait for the book. But now I can! I am no DIY master- that’s just not my thing and it’s important that as a designer, blogger and person I honor my strengths and know my weaknesses (like any projects involving a power drill, sanding or sewing, thirty seven steps or incredible amounts of patience). However, sometimes a budget restriction requires you to get a little bit crafty no matter how DIY-challenged you are. I was DYING to get a fabulous dresser by Redford House for this room.  But my renovation and decorating budget was completely busted and so I had to improvise. Enter IKEA, some nice hardware, Andrew and his powder drill!

The result is here- lovely, functional and totally doable!

Pinch Me…

Hard. Because I have to be dreaming.

There is no way this is real life. How is this possible??

Best Sellers - The New York Times2

To be a New York Times best-seller in my category was a secret/ absurd / totally crazy goal of mine when writing the book that I only JOKED about accomplishing.   And to get the call today that it HAPPENED just rocketed me into outer space.

I honestly cannot believe it. In fact, am speechless.

So just….THANK YOU.

EOS the Book Instagram Contest!

When I was designing the exterior of my book it was really important to me that it be a beautiful object with which to decorate and accessorize as well as a worthy book to read.  I was OBSESSED with the idea of a striped spine once I’d pictured using it in my own home on my vertical DWR Sapien bookshelves.  And I’m glad to see you guys agree that the book is pretty fetch (“Gretchen, stop trying to make “fetch” happen…”) OK, I’m cracking myself up now…

(my book hanging out with one of the my father-in law’s books in our guest room!)

Anywhoo, I’ve been seeing so many fun Instagrams of my book used within your homes in stacks, on coffee tables, in offices and so on,  so I thought it would be fun to run a little contest in the same vein with my friends at West Elm!  Six of you can win my fave favorite items from West Elm just by posting a creative picture of EOS the book all styled up.

That’s A Wrap!

Last night we ended this grueling main leg of our tour in San Francisco at Pottery Barn on Chestnut Street.  Competing with the Giants playoff game was tough, but we still had a great turnout and it was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of what has been the most mind-blowing, humbling and inspiring experience for me. So first and foremost, thank you to everyone who came out- those who drove hours, waited in line and spent their hard earned money on books. THANK YOU.

Also it has to be said that single men MISSED OUT on a goldmine of gorgeous, smart, stylish women at all these signings I’ve had! Andrew noticed it at our first party in Boston and it held true through the tour! A great example from last night below :)

Everything’s Bigger in Texas!

We landed yesterday morning at the airport after waking up at 4 a.m. for our flight and I literally became an amnesia patient… “Where are we?? What day is it??”  This has been a whirlwind, and while we are both exhausted, these parties have been magnificently energizing and inspiring for me.  Meeting so many of you and hearing about your lives really has lit a fire under my ass to re-commit to the blog in a big way once this is over.  Not that I’ve been uncommitted, but after almost 8 years of doing this the burnout is real (as you’ve seen lately with a lot of big time bloggers calling it quits).  But let me assure you, I’m not going anywhere. Especially after this experience!

I was excited not only to meet my Dallas readers, but also get to see Wisteria’s only store!  I order from them all the time for clients and myself- namely my new bedroom nightstands I adore- so to get to see ALL the goodies from them in person was awesome for me! What a gorgeous store!

First the outfit- since this was daytime in Texas I went a mix of fancy (the shoes), casual (the jeans and tank) and business (jacket and pearls). I look so damn tired and awkward here but whatevs.

Never leave home without it.
