Henry’s Big Boy Room Reveal!

FINALLY I can show you guys Henry’s big boy room!!!! It took me a long time to get this right, but I really think I did. Every time I walk in here I really feel like it’s such a reflection of Henry and his happy, sweet, wonderful little personality! And he loves it too, which is the BEST.  The biggest initial decision in this room was the wallpaper- I had long been obsessed with this Sister Parish print, but I had seen it used so many times online, I didn’t want to repeat what other designers had already done.  So when I came across this Hinson paper, a VINYL grasscloth no less, I was SOLD. It is amazing. Insanely durable, rich without being dark, and so, so happy! It’s the perfect backdrop for the room. The Heriz rug I found at Brimfield Antique show and I love the old school vibe it brings to the room (also it hides EVERYTHING). Try searching Etsy for a similar one.

Henry loves cars so I knew I wanted to use the Leslee Mitchell prints that you’ve probably seen around (actually, you can buy them framed on OKL today for 20% off). Red and blue are his favorite colors, so this worked out really well. I framed them in Framebridge burl frames because I was hoping to use a burl dresser in here as well (which you’ll see in a bit).  These side tables are a favorite, as they offer up great concealed toy storage but also add texture and warmth to the room. AND are a great height for daybeds.  Speaking of, I wanted a daybed because I felt like it would be so cozy for Henry and us to read together in at night (and give him sleepover space with the pull out trundle underneath- SOMEDAY).  We had this one made by LivenUp Designs in this skinny blue and white Kravet stripe, which works great here, but also could work in a guest room down the road if needed. It IS very hard to make the bed, you guys were right, but I still feel like it was the right choice. He’s so cozy in it and loves to pull out the trundle and jump on it like Spiderman from the bed.

The sconces were already wired so we just replaced them with these swing arms and had custom shades made in the same fabric as the roman shades (by Peter Fasano).  I picked this fabric because Henry LOVES art class, so it’s a little homage to that (and also, I just plain love it!)  The bed bolsters are in solid Kravet fabrics and the lumbar pillow is in a John Robshaw fabric with a leather cording from Samuel and Sons. Bedding is from PB Kids.

This room is literally the nicest room in our house guys. I admit I went a little bonkers. The chest was in our living room but I found a new antique for that spot so up here it went – it’s from Madegoods. I had Stephanie Henderson do this commissioned painting for the room (because every three year old needs commissioned art work, right? OMG.)  But it looks a little like Captain America’s shield so Henry LOVES it. I also had my friend Stacey from Dunes & Duchess make this custom lamp for him (it’s a shorter version of their standard lamp and it came out awesome). I had originally toyed with doing a red spindle bed for Henry’s room, and this lamp gives me that look on a smaller scale).  The “H” I found at an antique shop :)  The toy basket is Serena & Lily.

In this corner I have the Jonathan Adler acrylic shelves from Henry’s nursery (I got a lot of grief for using this in his nursery because of the glass shelves and I am happy to report not once has he tried to climb it or hit the shelves, and also yes, it is bolted to the wall).  The skateboard was made by my older brother for Henry for Christmas last year- while he’s too young to ride it, it matches PERFECTLY and is such a cute decor item until he’s a little bigger with better balance.  This chair is borrowed from our living room, I still have not found the perfect leather chair for the corner, so this is a stand in for now, but we actually left it in there after the shoot because it looks so cute and we actually sit in it in this room, where as in the living room it’s just… another chair no one sits in. :) The pillow was made for Henry when he was born by Cheeky Monkey Home– the reverse side has his name and birth date, weight, length and time stitched on it (these are now are a go-to baby gift for me!)

My happy munchkin (complete with a chin scrape from the playground).

I couldn’t forget the closet! :)  I had originally wanted to do Henry’s room in the horizontal Closet Stripe by Farrow & Ball, but another designer actually messaged me when she saw on instagram that I was considering it and said she had installed it in a room and it made everyone so dizzy they ripped it out like a week later! So I skipped that, and instead decided to do this cute Ralph Lauren stripe in the closet (it reminds me of men’s dress shirts!)  I since have added a second rod on this side (the other side it chock full of my off-season clothes since this closet is so big and Henry’s clothes are so small!) The faux roman valance has a Schumacher trim on it that I love, and the ceiling light is Visual Comfort, and one I have been wanting to use for a while!

It’s so fun to look back at ALL the iterations this room has had! Originally it was our master bedroom (as seen in book 1):

Then it was our guest room after we built our master suite and had Henry (as seen in book 2):

It’s funny how many versions of rooms I’ve had in my house in the six years we’ve been in it!

We also gave our basement playroom a little makeover. We ripped out the bar since, let’s face it, it took up tons of room and served no purpose now that it was a playroom. We needed to re-wallpaper and I found this amazing paper for a client’s beach house and just HAD to use it for Henry somewhere. I also really wanted to use this rug from my collection with Momeni (on sale today)– so it worked out great!

Orange pillows are mine (available here, although NOT indoor/outdoor as shown on Wayfair?!) . Blue stripe pillows are sold out.

I mean, look at this paper– it’s toile but it has ALL of Henry’s favorite things- dinosaurs, trains, sharks, cranes, cars, planes, rocket ships, dragons, castles, bears…. I swear I see something new every time I look at it!

I hope you guys liked the reveal!!! :)
