Three things inspired this post today: 1) I actually have a date night tonight (we are terrible about doing this, so it’s NEWS) 2) I have recently decided I am too old to be fiddling with complicated underwear of any sort and 3) a reader/ clients asked for a post about date night outfits for “mature” ladies/ busy moms.
So here it is. A bunch of date night outfits, none of which require a strapless bra or two pairs of Spanx. Because I want to eat my pasta and drink my wine in peace and comfort and not be worried about a wardrobe malfunction or a waistband digging into my stomach. Also, I’ve locked down my date for LIFE, so while I want to look pretty, I’m not going to the ends of the earth and making myself uncomfortable in order to look a certain way. :) Sorry honey! The above dress (from my new spread in Mini Magazine, ahem!) is a great example- I can wear my normal bra, it’s super flattering and feminine and looks awesome with some simple heels. Done and done.
Bodysuits are pretty key here as they stay tucked in so no fiddling. I usually size up one size on bodysuits because of my circus freak length torso and also I don;t want them super duper tight.
White jeans and a great top are sort of my go to (the yellow one comes in plus sizes too!) Also the pair of jeans with that top is my ULTIMATE favorite flattering white jean.
This first dress I ordered (and yes you can wear a bra) and the cut is crazy flattering. Top any of these with a denim jacket too to dress it down a little.

Your fashion posts are always spot on, but the title of this entry cracked me up. Couldn’t possibly be more true. Thank you for always making me laugh! :)

Thank you Erin for these excellent suggestions!
I have loved dresses and skirts since way back!! I’m prefer to look unique and feminine. Love these dresses you have up here.
I was thinking same thing as previous comment about everyone looking the same !! Just wear dresses !!!
Thank you for such a nice variety. It’s so refreshing to see a post like this after all the instagrammers post on the Nordstrom’s sale. Everyone is going to look the same this fall. A bunch of clones in leggings boots and long cardigans. I did not see much individuality at all You always bring me inspiration and bravo for giving us some stylish inexpensive pieces to work with 👍👍👍
Love all of these. Thank you so much!
I have to recommend that the coobie lace bandeau is a pretty killer alternative to a tradish strapless bra if you are a C cup or smaller…not the most shaping of course but for a printed summer top that would reveal bra straps, I wear them ALL summer and am beyond comfortable.

And I am 100% behind the no strapless bras! I don’t believe bloggers when they claim they’re really comfortable. No. Just no.
More posts like this and Meghan Markle will be following YOU as a fashion icon. Looks good and feels good; win win in my book.
I could start a pinterest board titled “What would Erin wear”,completely ignoring that you’re three inches taller and 30 years younger … But still a valuable fashion resource!
Thank you for these awesome looks. I’m 48 and sometimes the challenge to not look like I’ve shopped my high school daughters’ closets or my mother’s is frustrating! I’d wear any and all of these!
Date night clothes aren’t a problem – it’s finding a man who is willing to date a 64-year-old, overweight, average-looking woman who walks with a cane. All the guys on the dating sites want perfection even though most of them are decidedly average-looking.
