Fashion Friday: Catalog Surprise

The other day I got the new Boden catalog in the mail and since I still find looking through catalogs to be as calming as meditation, I began perusing it but with the assumption that I wouldn’t I’d find much. I’ve always found their clothes a little too…cutely, maybe? To my surprise by the time I had finished looking through it, I had about 26 pages marked with things I liked.  The styling has gotten so much hipper (is this Caroline de Maigret modeling or just a look-a-like?) and the clothes too!  But also MAJOR props on the shoes- so many good pairs!!!

Loving this top for spring

Cute paired with these great lace up sandals with tassels

This whole look is so French-girl-chic– but I am especially enamored with the slides.

Another boho top right up my alley!

And this to die for bag- a mix of suede, leather and my favorite- TASSELS! Who doesn’t love a good tassel detail?

Striped tees with sequins guarantee a happier day, no?

Any catalog lines surprise you lately with good stuff?

  1. i totally agree. and actually i am kind of shocked that i like so i will be looking for this catalog..and i’ll be saving all my shekels to buy some maj merch! grazie.

  2. GREAT spring items! I kinda forgot about Boden; will have to revisit. I would love to see you feature a segment on white jeans–looking for the flattering and not-too-sheer combo. And so glad it’s a trend that’s here to stay. I’m sure you’ve tried every brand! Would love to hear your opinion.

  3. Boden has always been my favorite. And don’t forget MiniBoden! Little Henry will love it (or you will love it for little Henry).

  4. That houndstooth dress, so very Man-from-Uncle. I can see you totally rocking all those looks you posted. I’ll have to take a look and see what they might have for someone my size and shape.

  5. I’ve just been ogling the Boden catalog too lately and have made several purchases from them in the past few years BUT need to warn that if you’ve never ordered from Boden before you should consider sizing up. Those gals from the UK are tiny! A UK size 4, is nothing like a US size 4. Just saying…

  6. I’ve seen bloggers recommend white jeans from Ann Taylor Loft, so I tried them.
Great fit, feel good, not sheer. Perfect.

  7. Totally agree! I ordered about $900 of clothes from them last month. Their sizing is a little inconsistent so I will be returning some items, but the online reviews are helpful in determining your size. Also, their swimwear is excellent – flattering and good quality.

  8. I love that blush trench. Thanks for sharing. If you have any (more) ideas for wedding dresses, I’m all ears or eyes.

  9. I’m wearing a boden tunic dress right now from the new collection. It’s so well made, and comfortable. Boden has BEST clothes and shoes for kids too. My daughter has had at least five pairs of their shoes and is wearing a mini boden sweatshirt today even!

  10. Yay for tassels and tall sizes! Speaking of surprises, have you seen the new designer collection for Lands End? There is a white shirt dress I love!

  11. You know where else has some pretty great pieces, more for weekend relaxing cool Mom wear — Hanna Anderssen! I bought a few things on sale earlier this year and they were some of my most worn pieces this winter. Great quality and casual/cute.

  12. I was in the store last week (luckily the only existing store is here in London, though I’m told a bigger flagship store is in the works!) I found a cute little sixties floral jacquard 3/4 sleeve top. All the dresses I tried on after seeing them in the catalog just didn’t fit right, sadly. I kind of go hit and miss with Boden.

One store I am madly in love with is Winser London. Maje has some cute lace tops too.

  13. LOVE Boden! I’ve been buying pieces from them for past few years and the quality is surprisingly good. Skirts have nice detail and linings and the shoes are also well made. Big fan of their stripes, Paris girl tops!

  14. I read your blog of all the time and was so happy to see you showcasing the new Boden catalog! (I’m wearing a Boden blazer as I write this in fact.) The quality and detailing in their clothing is fantastic. I love that I can get cute, trendy styles (with fun patterns and color!), yet they are staples…not styles I will part with in a year. Boden takes the stress out of dressing European-chic!

  15. A little note Boden has a big warehouse sale in suburban Philadelphia (Oaks) a couple times a year for anyone who is into the torture of digging through bins – like my dear motherwho does all of the shopping for us! Lots of kids stuff. Same place Lilly Pulitzer does their’s .

  16. Very cute stuff! I’m not sure about the adult clothing but the Mini Boden stuff is AMAZING quality. Like it literally will not wear out.

  17. I love that white dress! I want it for an upcoming vacation. Well that, and I live in Southern California. It was in my cart too, but I decided against it because I’m still nursing and couldn’t figure out how to make that work. Are you still nursing? I can’t remember if you’ve posted about that recently or not.

  18. I am a long time fan of Boden and have ordered several classic but fun dresses from them, I agree their shoes are fabulous. Love all of your picks!! I am just like you, love perusing through a good catalog, it is relaxing!! I also love how Boden helps in sizing and I have found them to always be spot on with their recommendations.

  19. Enjoy the slides this summer while you are not having to chase Henry:) Next year will be a different story!

  20. Thanks so much for sharing! I’ve never tried Boden but I’ve been eyeing up their baby boy stuff (my little guy is just a few days older than yours) and I love the white eyelet stuff you picked. Also perfect timing as – dare I say it? – I’m a bit bored with the latest J. Crew stuff. I will always love them but it’s fun to see some new and fun designs like the stuff you posted from Boden – thanks! Bit of a personal question here, but are you wearing nursing-friendly clothes? I feel like my wardrobe has been so limited now that I need to have *ahem* “access” quickly and frequently…

  21. I just love your blog and I’m a 65 year old grandma! Your posts are so interesting in every way that appeals to me. Because I’m so much older (but very healthy and young and still interested in looking cute!), I’d love for you to do a post on fashion featuring your mom because I have to suspect she is just as fashionable as you.

  22. I discovered Boden last year and am a big fan. I’ve had a couple misfires but have several of their tops that are now go-tos for casual workwear. I feel like the key with Boden is to go for some of their more special pieces and skip the cotton Mom-wear.

  23. I agree! I have lots of those same pages torn out in my bin. I have always like d their stuff – it can be a tad preppy and always has a 60s vibe to it. And I agree with Janie above! I am 57 but have a very similar sense of style to yours. I just have to figure out my version of things , since I am shorter and older. I bet Nana looks great all the time too.

  24. OMG, I am also a senior very active and love fashion. I follow your blog along with others simolar to your….i always share your tjoughts and ideas w my daughters…

  25. How was there nothing mentioned about the tile in the graphic wrap dress photo?! Great Spring items, especially the booties!

  26. Wow – I haven’t looked at Boden in awhile – there has definitely been a change! It was always cute, but it felt like British mum-wear. I’m a mom, and I am not the most fashionable, so I always thought what they were offering was cute.

I have to say, though, that I REALLY like these latest items! There is an edge that I love. I’m already looking into the boho tops and the cute shoes! I don’t need, but would love to have them as an update to my everyday wardrobe!

  27. Boden is great, and great quality too. I especially love that black and white tunic dress and navy tassel bag. Yummy. Any chance you’re planning a post on spring get-away fashion? My husband and I are headed to Hawaii in April (get-aways are very rare for us!), and one of my first thoughts in seeing the resort dress codes was “what would Erin wear?” :) As a fellow tall girl with a similar body type, I love seeing your picks because they usually will flatter me, too. I’m especially curious if you have suggestions for cute, dressy flat sandals, as I recently broke my foot and can’t rock heels for awhile. P.S. I’m 35 but I LOVE the idea suggested in a previous comment of seeing your mom’s fashion picks. Every time you post about her, it’s obvious she’s such a class act. :)

  28. I have tried Boden numerous times over the years and have found their tops to always be very short. I am 5’6″ but have a long torso and large chest. I am used to sizing up (and then tailoring) because of my chest, but even doing that, the length was always too short. Just something to think about, since I think you are tall, right? Although it sounds like they offer some tall sizes now. Would love to hear how you think the clothes fit you.

  29. Boden has also had a couple of warehouse sales in Boston over the last few years. I’m attending a conference this week and one of the speakers is from Boden – I’m really excited to hear what she has to say!
