Oscar Red Carpet Review

I didn’t get to actually watch most of the red carpet because Henry decided it was an apt time to freak out, but I do have some opinions this morning after seeing everything online-
First of all, Charlize wins it all. Hands down. The gown, the necklace, everything.

“Oh heeeeeey Sean Penn, remember THIS?”

My second favorite was Rachel McAdams in this gorgeous green halterneck (but why oh why aren’t there stylists with mini hand steamers traveling with these ladies? I mean, really?)

I also totally loved Saoirse’s glittery green number with the loose hair and statement earrings.

OK, Kate’s dress is a tad shiny and distracting, but how could you not LOVE these two posing on the red carpet together?? And I give her props for finally mixing up her look from the super-fitted gown and updo look she normally does.  But Leo winning and how cute they are supporting each other deserves high marks in my book.

I loved Olivia Munn in orange, such a great color and cut on her. However, it looks like she got lip injections (as did Mandy Kaling) which is SO disappointing. This never looks natural on anyone.

Cate Blanchett can make anything look amazing- including this floral dress that on anyone else I would probably hate. But on her it’s amazing, ethereal and cool- she always takes risks and makes them pay off, unlike….

Heidi Klum who is my worst dressed by FAR in this hot mess that looks like it took inspiration from my 6th grade Lisa Frank trapper keeper. Absolutely heinous, and to think she’s the one judging other people’s fashion design!?

I loved Eddie Redmayne in velvet and his wife who wore the most perfect maternity gown ever! They look STUNNING together.

These two aren’t too bad looking either. Naomi’s gown is bolder than I typically like but on her it looks pretty incredible, no?

When I first saw Alicia Vikander’s dress is was just the top portion and I LOVED the color, fit and detail on her. And then it panned to the hem and awwwww hell no. I really am not a fan of bubble hems at all, and cry over the thought of how pretty this would have been with a normal skirt.  Also, the half bun hairdo looks like how I wear my hair to wash my face at night. No bueno.

I LOVE Brie Larson, but I did not love this dress. It felt very suburban prom to me. Those ruffles and the belt are just doing her no favors. Nor the hair.

I like this Chanel on Julianna Moore, but I don’t love it. The cut outs at the top aren’t my favorite.

Love Margot Robbie’s dress but WHY THE HAIR? Did she pay someone to do that? It looks like my hair right now- three days unwashed with some spit up in it.

Sorry J.Law, nope nope nope. Love the haircut and color but the layered ruffled lace is like modest lingerie that needs to cover the ankles but yet is risque.

Reese is GLOWING, and I love her hair and makeup and the color of this dress. But the boob ruffles are weird, no? Not very flattering.

Let’s all give props to Sofia Vergara for NOT wearing a mermaid silhouette dress for once! There’s a lot going on up top, but I do like the color on her.

Wait, hasn’t Rooney Mara worn this same dress like six times already? Why does she insist on wearing this washed out tone? Also, she always looks so miserable. SMILE, it’s the Oscars! If you don’t want to go, I will!

GAH. I do not care one iota that the Kardashians have brought back the choker, I hate them. HAAAAAAATE.  I think any girl who grew up in the late 80’s/early 90’s would agree since they were part and parcel of some our most heinous looks.  It also looks like she forgot part of her dress- the deep V look has to be VERY specifically done (see Charlize) or it goes way wrong.  Like this.

Kerry is always hit or miss- and this is a BIG miss. It looks like a 90’s dominatrix meets some faux denim pockets kinda thing- just YIKES.

OMG, I love Michael Strahan. Like, LOVE him. But dude, this suit is EEEGADS!!!!  A huge guy like this in this much color with 17 lapels is just too much. I still love you though Michael.

Other than Heidi, Cate Capshaw was the worst, oddest look of the night. The bangs? The “shirt”? The plastic surgery? Okay, just the whole thing- it makes me giggle it’s so bizarre!

OK, let me hear your opinions!!!

  1. I actually did not like Charlize’s dress or maybe it was that long necklace. I did not care for Rachel McAdams dress and severe earnings either but I guess was not a fan of anything as I fell asleep pretty early :(

Ok, don’t hate me…I loved Ryan Gossling’s presentation with Russell Crowe but felt his jacket was too small and was pulling at the arms.

  2. I agreed with pretty much all of your opinions, and you made me laugh on a few. Thanks for collecting all of the gorgeous pictures.

  3. Charlize Theron shut it down in her dress! She looked absolutely beyond! My friends and I literally squealed.
Olivia Munn was the worst dressed in my opinion as she wore orange, and in tandem with Aaron’s blue tux those are the colors of the Chicago Bears! How could she? ;)

  4. I was so surprised with the selection of Kate Cap.
I figured it was to make her surgery less noticeable
but the “look” just made everything more obvious.

  5. Trapper Keeper….snort my coffee, laugh outloud moment!!! So spot on. Amazing how I haven’t thought of the words trapper keeper in 30 years but reading it here and seeing that photo the memory of my own purple one came flooding back. Still chuckling.

  6. Kate Capshaw used to be a beautiful woman who was aging gracefully. This is just so sad to me. Lots of misses this year.

  7. I did not see Mindy Kaling, but was so distracted by Olivia Munn’s mouth. I thought maybe she got teeth veneers or something. Just say no to the lip injections!!
