I have long loved the classical beauty and intricate details of intaglios- but especially displayed in modern frames and hung in groupings on the wall. Here are some awesome examples of a variety of settings using the traditional art in fun ways:
A simple pair looks awesome above this modern console and set against patterned wallpaper.
A close up of antique intaglios.
A slightly more traditional framing style.
Seriously LOVE this tall wall of frames!
Another example of AWESOME wide mat framing making the tiny pieces into a dramatic, full wall installation.
This is a GENIUS use of framed intaglios by Suzanne Kasler- to cover a TV!
Love this mix of old and new!
Especially dramatic against a black wall and in impressive numbers!
A gorgeous group by designer Melanie Turner.
I’m noticing a lot of these examples are from southern homes….
To get the look here are some retail sources:
Horchow has a selection for sale.
Tiberian Design is a designer favorite source (and available not to the trade via Etsy!)
This pair is on 1st Dibs
Or you can make your own for way less! It’s super simple (I plan to try to do this myself for my home– when I can find a spare hour- which is hilarious).
Places like Michael’s will cut the mats for you- you need the mat to be a bit thicker than the intaglio so bring them with you for measuring. Also bring along an image of how you want the mats cut from above (extra wide so buy big frames!)
