Get the Look: Bright & Rustic

This weekend we were away in the country (more on that tomorrow) and it had me all kind of jazzed about rustic, country decor. I think I get this way every fall though.  New England shines brightest this time of year, and I like to bring that cozy vibe into the home when I can.  This picture I found on Pinterest combines my love of black, white and bright rooms with rustic details as well.  I love how it mixes in a couple modern pieces too to keep things unexpected.

Here are some suggestions to get this look:

Additionally, consider adding some real or faux wood beams to a room.  There are so many options- some even made of polyurethane and finished to look just like rustic wood beams (if your ceiling can’t handle the weight of real wood beams).  This site had a great selection of faux and real reclaimed wood beams.

These are faux beams!

  1. Those vintage wicker chairs are the exact ones my sis and I had in our teen age bedrooms in the 60s! Love the room.

  2. I love this post, especially as we are moving back to New England in the spring after 20 years in California… I need beams! But they gotta be real ;) or my dad would freak out. Cannot wait to design a home for all FOUR seasons and look forward to all the great inspiration you always offer!

  3. Oh, I love this! My husband and I are renovating a Civil War-era home in Boston for our family of 4. We love the beauty of rustic wood and plan to leave the floor joists exposed on our first level ceiling -kitchen/dining. It also will hopefully serve to make the room feel taller :).
