A Sunny California Abode

Bright, clean interiors really speak to me as we inch into spring.  My house feels dingy and blah, so I’ve been looking for some inspiration to lighten and brighten.  And where better to look than Manhattan Beach, CA and this house designed by Lucas Studio in Luxe Magazine?  The cheery look starts at the front door too- just look at that darling picture! who wouldn’t be happy coming home to that?  (If you love that minty door, try Sherwin Williams Spirited Green!)

Lots of white with hints of yellow and blue make this space so crisp but not boring.  But you would need to get all that white upholstery treated if you have kids and pets!

The beadboard ceiling, built ins, windows and the lantern make all that white interesting.  Oh how I wish I had ceilings this high!

A cozier den in which I’d happily curl up for a Netflix binge.

I love this beautiful blue painted table paired with the hints of gold and the painterly lamp.

It takes a brave person to paint this many cabinets light blue but it looks lovely.  I’m not a fan of the island lights, they look like food warmers to me, but that”s just me :) I’d prefer something glass like these or these.

I love that long pendant fixture.

A sweet banquette, and I love the rosy tones mixed with the light blue!

I’m a sucker for a navy library, that’s for sure.

A simple, neutral master suite that looks relaxing. I may have added a nice long bed pillow in a color (green?) for a smidge of color.

These outdoor spaces are pretty baller.  I wouldn’t mind sitting here all afternoon!

  1. That front door is intriguing. The same photo on another blog , Decor to Adore, suggests the name is ‘Kind Green’ SW-#6457. Lol even more interesting to me is her finished door takes on a blue hue rather than mint. In any event, this home is lovely.

  2. I love that mint green door against the gray brick. I wonder, though, if the mint green would work in New England, where the light is so different. I remember falling in LOVE with the brightly-painted stucco homes in Bermuda, then thinking after I returned to Boston that the colors would not have the same impact here.

  3. Love the navy den and the light blue cabinets. The rest is just too white for me. I have pets and I don’t have a cleaning service. Still, some great ideas. I am collecting them for my new house.

  4. Erin,
What is the source of the ikat fabric on the chairs? I am on a hunt for a coral ikat or faux bois?

I would take a house trade any day of the week!

  5. Erin, I think this house would feel totally out of place in New England unless you were right on the water. Your house is sheer perfection as is… just bring home some flowers today… Trader Joes has every shade of tulips ever created for $4.99/bunch as well as big gorgeous white hydrangeas also super cheap! Now what about that navy library… what are your thoughts on the paint color there? Please don’t say Hague Blue! Way too dark in person. I want that rich blue grey color on my office walls! Funny though that they describe it in the article as deep navy-teal… I don’t see any teal in it??? Thx!

  6. Hey Erin! I commented last week prior to your trip to LA that you should come to Manhattan Beach for a few days because it’s warm and beautiful here, and this house proves it! It’s a few doors down from me and is even more beautiful in person. My friend and I snuck into it when they were doing the finishing touches so we could see it before the owners moved in. And for a fun Boston connection – last 4th of July Tom Brady and Giselle were at this house visiting the owners, the street was buzzing with excitement!

  7. Thanks Erin for posting about our project! Always nice to be a part of your blog! All the white fabrics in the house are outdoor actually so the house is very durable since they have two dogs and three kids! The blue in the library is Porters Paints “Vatican Blue” and the Ikat on the chairs is an outdoor fabric from Perennials to those who asked. ;)

    1. Would you mind sharing the blue that you used on the kitchen cabinets? It is so perfect and soft!

  8. Beautiful home! I see “High Society” is playing on the tv above the fireplace in the living room. =) That’s one of my all time favorite movies!

  9. This house is right up my alley! I could move in tomorrow and not change a thing. This home is absolutely gorgeous…

  10. Dutch doors…love…even made my armoire doors into dutch. A charming abode, INDEED!! franki

  11. And to think they live with that sunshine all year long! Love how the details really pop on that painted blue table also.

  12. A perfect home…love the white. Love the mint doors. Love it all! It would hard to keep clean with dogs and kids though, no doubt.

  13. OH, I love this! Especially the front door! I think that much white with kids and dogs would be impossible to keep so clean though. I always wonder how people do it….
