Modern Rustic Inspiration

I am lucky enough to have clients that hire me multiple times for multiple homes- recently one of my most fun, bold and cool clients decided to build a modern second home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and asked me to help with the decor!  This is SO much fun for me because it’s so outside the realm of what I work on most days (suburban full time homes or urban condos).  There is SO much inspiration to pull from for a place like this, nestled amongst some of the most spectacular scenery in the country!  Here are some images and items I’ve pulled to help get us started in dreaming up the look of this modern mountain retreat- and proof that “rustic” doesn’t have to mean “country”-

What a dream job! Great inspiration photos. For Jackson, I love wood floors combined with brick floors and stained concrete floors (with radiant heating of course). The dust and dirt in Jackson are inescapable! I also think oriental rugs are a great element in a rustic mountain home.

It must be so much fun to play out your vision through different styles and locals. I love the barn wood ceilings and doors.

I carted that giant RH light fixture in a cargo container to Europe – SO WORTH IT. It’s even better in person and diffuses the light beautifully – can’t wait to see how this place turns out!

Put $100 down on Philadelphia, Washington, Miami, and San Francisco
to cover the spread. Once the download is complete, you
can see the bonus code as well as it gets downloaded to the system automatically along with the game.

These are essential things that all casino
    resorts will need to have.

I actually live in jackson WY, and have been following your blog for years. I’ll be so excited to see what you come up with in this setting. The style that designers always used to cling to here was rustic, with a touch of native. Thankfully, that is on the way out. And modern rustic is up and coming. FYI, there are a few stunning galleries among the many terrible here with some colorful modern art work to give those stark lines some warmth come winter time. (see alta mira, amy ringholz to name a few) Hope you can make a visit out here to check it out!! Hit me up if you do, I’d love to give you some tips on great things to do. Cheers, gal.

  11. Such beautiful inspiration.

  12. I. Am. So. Excited. I am a southerner (like your hubby) that lives in Jackson, WY, and have been reading your blog for over 6 years now. I cannot wait to see what you do with a house that is FINALLY in my neck of the woods. I adore your style and look forward to seeing what great work you dream up. I manage a florist in town (see web link) so when you need flowers for a final touch, I am happy to help! Of course I would love to grab a cocktail with you if you come out this way and have the time and/or energy. I know you’ve met with some readers before and would be equally thrilled to take you on a mellow hike if you wanted to truly embrace our amazing little place. Regardless, I can’t wait to see what you do! Thanks for always keeping us readers in the loop!
PS. Happy early bday- you’re the day before me!

Love this look, the wood with metal accents. Any idea where that linear chandelier might be from in that dining room? I’ve had my eye on the one at Z Gallerie, but it feels a bit much. This one looks perfect.

  14. Fabulous, what a web site it is! This website gives
useful data to us, keep it up.

  15. Greetings! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could locate a
captcha plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m
having trouble finding one? Thanks a lot!

Such a fun project. We have installed many of our hardware pieces in these types of homes and it is always such fun to see the many ways “rustic” manifests itself in these mountain homes. Looking forward to seeing your finished project.

  19. Holly Irwin says:

Hi Erin, Everything about this style is appealing to me!! LOVE the bedroom with those black shelves, ditto the black fireplace wall in the living room, the minimalism and clean lines of every room. Please post more soon!

  20. Elizabeth says:

When you originally said your clients were bold, I was thinking the home would be very eccentric and colorful. The inspiration is more neutral than what I envisioned but is beautiful Just goes to show… you can make a very powerful statement while keeping things rather ‘neutral’. I am excited for you and this project!

this has got to be my fave ski house ever: from elle decor

  22. Modern Rustic! That is my favorite style lately…as an interior designer/textile designer my styles change frequently. I love the look of the Edison Light bulbs, but I have never used them – I keep thinking they will be discontinued in the future then what would we use :)
