Under the Canopy

I’m pretty sure all little girls dream of having a canopy bed draped in curtains, a perfect way to create a private little fort within their bedroom.  I know I certainly grew up feeling that way. And I still do as an adult! There is something so grand and lovely about sleeping in a canopy bed, even those without curtains.  I was lucky to snap up the awesome one IKEA used to make and have it in my guest room now.  Sometimes I go in there and think ” I kinda wish this were my room”.  As we prepare for our addition I have started thinking about what kind of bed I want- and seeing as the current master will become the guest and the guest room with hopefully someday become a nursery I’ll be without any canopy beds- so why not put one in the new master? We’ll have high ceilings in there and it could be perfect and totally dreamy.  Let’s peruse some inspiration- from feminine to modern and everything in between!

  1. Thanks for featuring the John bed from KDC. It is a big seller for us. Perhaps for the new master? You know I will work you a hell of a deal. I’m open to collaborating and creating something new for you too. Call me, email me…

  2. I love canopy beds! When I moved into my studio apartment I wanted that Anthropologie one (still do), but it definitely wouldn’t work in my space. Still in love with it though. It feels so feminine to me and has a romantic, Victorian vibe, but it also adds such architecture and drama to a room.

I have a canopy bed that I got from West Elm when they were discontinuing it and it is my favorite piece of furniture.

My sister and I both had canopy beds growing up. I loved mine because it was so high off the floor and it just felt fancier than a regular bed.

  5. After months of stalking craigslist I finally got my hands on the Ikea Edland bed this past year and I LOVE it…definitely brings out the little girl that always wanted one!

  6. I didn’t have a canopy bed as a kid, but my barbie had one! Always wanted one. These are gorgeous options!

  7. yes to everything. love them all but my favorites are the ply studio and anthropologie beds. i seriously love them with some great curtains…so romantic.

    Hi Erin,

Forgive me for this shameless self-serving post ;) But when you are ready, if ever, to sell the canopy bed you have in your guest room, please remember me. As a long-time and loyal reader of your blog, I have loved it ever since you first revealed it. It would be perfect for my 7 year old daughter’s room and she would love it. Plus we only live about a half hour away. We would be so grateful. Thanks. Jennifer

I have that room and board bed in briiiiiiight yellow and I LOVE IT. Best thing ever is their delivery. They come in, unpack, assemble, and remove all trash. They even take off their shoes when they come in the house. So awesome.

When I look at your website in Safari, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping.

I love the pictures you chose. The Room & Board and the black restoration hardware are both favorites of mine. If only you knew the secret to convincing my husband that a canopy bed won’t make him feel like a princess. Or that there is nothing wrong with a 36-year old man feeling like a princess!

  16. Courtney says:

Yes! I’ve always wanted a canopy bed!

  17. franki says:

Count me in the canopy corner! I have loved our canopy bed almost…40 years now. I “dress it” and “undress it”…still “playing house.” Currently it has no curtains and have a settee’ at the foot…perfect for having tea and looking at the lake. Go canopy!! franki

I have had a WANTED: Edland bed posted on Craigslist for months now… no luck. Did see one for sale in yellow (so pretty) but it was a full…. crap. I will continue to search for really budget friendly options.
