Fashion Friday: Work It Out

I know it’s so cliche to be all “let’s get in shape!” as a New Years resolution, but there is a reason it’s such a popular thing to do.  After the gluttonous holidays and, if you’re like me, the craziness of the end of the year in which working out falls by the wayside, it’s a line in the sand. A fresh start. I for one have promised myself to get back to yoga and try barre classes.  So far this month I’ve done a bit of that, but moreso I’ve made myself go to the gym at least three days a week.  Even when I don’t want to (i.e. last night) I tell myself I’ll feel so much better if I do. And I do! And for extra motivation I’m picking up some new workout stuff.  After the whole Lululemon scandal I’ve been looking for alternative vendors for cute, well fitting workout gear and have found a super awesome selection at Nordstrom.  So here are my top picks to put a little spring in your step as you kick off your new workout regime (or maintain it, if you’re awesome like that.)

  1. Thanks for the post! I have a nordstrom gift card that I want to put to good use. I love my Zella leggings. They are so comfortable! Good luck with the barre classes- so fun!

  2. Hands down, Nordstrom is my favorite place to buy comfortable and fashionable workout gear. Great selections!

  3. Ditto the love for Zella clothes at Nordstroms!!! Also, if you haven’t already… Try Pure Barre. Am obsessed and there’s one in Newton with parking!! Love love love!! You can actually see a difference!!!

  4. I just took a look at the Zella collection on the Nordstrom website — love all of it! Hadn’t heard of it before, so thanks for the tip. I also live in Newton Centre — wondering if you have found any yoga classes you like? Thanks!

  5. LOVE the leopard leggings! I may have to get a pair now… and try Pure Barre. It is absolutely awesome. I am generally not a fan of working out, but I am completely addicted to it!

  6. My goals are also to get back into yoga and try barre classes! To be honest, I’m quite nervous :) Good luck to both of us… we can do it! (ps- love those Nikes)

  7. LOVE that first drapped tank and the “stand collar” sweatshirt (that would be adorable for just lounging or running errands, too). Great finds :)

  8. I’ve become obsessed with the Zella line at Nordstrom! I live in the “live-in leggings” and just purchased the Bella soft shell. Comfy, sleek, and all reasonably priced!

  9. THANK YOU for promoting workout gear that isn’t Lululemon! I find their prices and quality of materials do not match up, besides the fact I do not agree with their business practices. Looks like I’ll be stopping by Nordstrom this weekend for some new workout tanks!

  10. I just started The Bar Method 6 weeks ago and can’t believe how strong I am — And how addictive class is! I think you would love it with your yoga background!!

  11. I actually bought those grey, leopard Nike pants the other day and thought of you while doing so;) I have to say, the fit pretty much sucks. I, too, don’t want to support Lululemon, but it’s hard when no one else makes pants that fit as well as theirs. Ugh.

  12. Love those Nike shoes! I have a thing for the grey and coral color combo for workout gear :) And maybe it’s a little shallow, but nothing gets me to the gym like a cute outfit! Great post!!

  13. Erin, have you tried Lucy for workout clothing? Really pretty stuff. Not to jump on the bandwagon either, but I totally believe in the New Year Get Fit train. It just feels good to start off a year with a goal to better myself and my health! Thanks for the fun round-up; cute workout gear is a motivator for many of us! :-)

  14. Cheers to you for not supporting Lululemon either. They don’t deserve the patronage of be beautiful, smart women! I am done. These are all fabulous alternatives!!!

  15. I have been dying to do Barre as well. And those leopard leggings are great! I also have refused to buy Lululemon. Have you heard of BIC bands? They are like sweaty bands but they donate to charity which I love. I highly suggest checking them out…
In case you are interested in some other ideas – for running I have been falling in love with Oiselle clothes. Also check out Ice Breaker -a New Zealand brand. Great, high quality clothes that can, no joke, go a few turns without washing and not smell. LOVE.

  16. Ahh so glad you posted the comment about Lulu. I mean let’s be honest, they make super CUTE clothes, but I just can’t get myself to buy it either. I feel wrong. Anyway, I wanted to mention Beyond Yoga- made in the US and super cute. They also just did a collaboration with goop that I’m sure you saw, but regardless of how you feel about that, they make great workout gear that is cute too.
And I’m planning on taking my first barre method class thanks to you- is it weird that I’m hoping I’m as sore as everyone else claims to be?

  17. Have you ever tried workout gear from Fabletics (Kate Hudson’s line)? I have never tried it, but I have read positive things about it on a few different blogs! I absolutely adore your blog! I have been reading it for years!
