The Lost Paris Apartment

First of all, thank you so much for all your amazing comments, e-mails and tweets about my little post yesterday. It’s so wonderful to know I made someone feel less alone, and can’t tell you how amazing it is for ME to realize how not alone I am! Cheers to all of you.
On another note, have you guys seen this story about an apartment in Paris that was just discovered (unopened) since WWII??? It’s AMAZING and I would give anything to have been the one to find it and go through everything. Especially since they found a $3 million painting inside by Giovanni Boldini!  Turns out the grandmother of the apartment owner was Boldini’s muse and was a much adored actress during Belle Epoque.  Also found amongst the cobwebs, art and antiques were stacks of love letters to her tied up with ribbon. Can you even imagine?

I can only imagine that this stuffed ostrich came from Deyrolle- one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been.

And speaking of Paris apartments, the next time I go (which I hope will be soon) I am thinking of renting one through Haven in Paris. Look at this delightful space on the Champs Elysee!!! I die. DIE.

  1. I think you should organize a Paris tour with you a guide – I’d be the first to sign up!

  2. We actually are renting an apartment through Haven in Paris this summer, the end of June. I have never been to Paris and I am excited beyond all reason. I have researching restaurants and bakeries and shopping places (and things to buy in French pharmacies) but I would love to hear any suggestions from people who have been there!!! Also any suggestions for decent shoes to do lots of walking in that are not hideous ;) would be appreciated! Any travel advice about clothing too!! Please…..

  3. I love this story – only in Paris could an apartment be forgotten about for decades! It is basically a time machine.
I was in Paris a couple years ago and we rented an apartment for the week and it was the best decision. Will check out Haven in Paris next time.

  4. Quite a story! Last time we were in Paris we rented a flat and it was amazing. Owned by a Canadian couple in the movie business it was decorated beautifully and right of the Champs d’Elysee. It was wonderful to cook our own dinners.

  5. Didn’t they find this a couple of years ago? Or is this a new one? Amazing either way!

  6. I never considered renting an apartment in Paris. I do have my next hotel picked out since my husband didn’t do so great last time. I will have to check out Haven, too.

  7. Very interesting. The taxidermy doesn’t do a thing for me though – a custom of bygone days that is just creepy.

  8. God bless these indivualials that occupied theses spaces!!! Please, Erin, remove the narsistic lenses for one posting!

  9. a lost apartment is so romantic!!! What a lovely find! And renting an apartment in Paris sounds AWESOME!

  10. I’ve rented through Haven in Paris multuple times at various locations in Paris. Their properties are amazing and the corp office are based in Massachusetts which made dealing with much easier!

  11. Can’t tell you how much I love this post – a time-capsule of an apartment only just discovered with a history of art and romance? Nothing can beat that – would give my right arm to explore it. Thanks for posting!

  12. I’ll right away snatch your rss feed as I can not find your email subscription hyperlink or newsletter service. Do you’ve any? Please allow me know in order that I may subscribe. Thanks.
