  1. The Ringling Ca d’Zan Mansion in Sarasota FL. I am not a designer and wouldn’t consider it a literal inspiration for decor but it revs the creative juices none-the-less. It is described as “the last of the Gilded Age mansions” to be built in America. LOTS of gilt moldings and trim, large b&w checkerboard floors and Venetian Gothic (over-the-top) architecture. And the gardens- Sprawling, ancient Banyans and the rose gardens all set on the waterfront.
