As I sit in bed (STILL!) and listen to the construction workers downstairs banging away at our kitchen and dining room I am reminded that I have yet to pick a dining room fixture. My dining “room” is really open to the kitchen so the fixture has to work with the Hicks pendants I’ve already purchased to go over the peninsula. Little did I know how hard this would be. I’m feeling like the pendants are a statement so the chandelier can’t be a statement….yet I want it to be. ARGH. I was SO glad to see on Million Dollar Decorators that Mary McDonald had just as hard of a time picking stuff for herself as I am!
Here are the fixtures I’ve been considering– help me decide. I know you don;t know the other items in the space yet- but let me share that my table is round and whitewashed/ grey washed oak and the walls are light grey grasscloth….
Love this Arteriors retro fixture SO MUCH, but I’m afraid it’s too much for the space and the style of my house. Or is it super fun?
A simple yet modern option also from Arteriors.
I’ve always loved the Visual Comfort Paris Flea Market chandelier but perhaps to trad and busy?
I think this Arteriors one is cool and modern yet simple but maybe too industrial?
A totally alternative option of an open modern lantern from Hudson Valley?
SUPER basic Visual Comfort Bryant? Too safe?

I vote the Arteriors one (4th one down). Feel better soon.
Tough choice. I love the first two Arteriors fixtures, especially the burst. Having said that, the second fixture might be more safe.
I love the last one. “super basic”. I think it is timeless and will look beautiful with the other peices you have for the kitchen.
I adore the sputnik-like one from Arteriors. It’s similar in style, but the shape is so different and complimentary. Dinner parties are fun – go for the fun one! If you decide you don’t like it, it can be repurposed above a bathtub or something. Feel better!
Have you considered the Niermann Weeks Capucine chandelier?
I’ve always loved that second choice from Arteriors!
Either one from Visual Comfort. Those two are timeless and you won’t get sick of them.
I like the second one from Arteriors. If you tired of it you could change it up by adding shades later-making it more similar to the last (basic) one. Can’t wait to see your progress!
HUDSON VALLEY!! I’m obsessed with that fixture.
I like the second one from Arteriors. I think it speaks to your design and although it is super different looking, it wouldn’t take away from your statement pendants.
Arteriors Auburn! Hands down! Perfect with the Hicks pendants, classic and modern all at once, won’t compete with the pendants but would be striking on its own. Love what you’ve described so far!
Go with your gut – the first Arteriors retro fixture.
They are all beautiful choices! I understand your dilemma. Would you ever consider the Jonathan Adler Meurice 30 light brass chandelier? I have a thing for that fixture. Feel better soon!
Love the first one. Don’t hesitate for a second! Brass and spherical shape complement the hicks pendant perfectly.
Definitely the second one! I love Arteriors. I was so disappointed that when we remodeled our dining room that I only had a few days to pick a chandelier because the scaffolding was about to be taken down. :(
My vote: the first Arteriors burst! LOVE and think it would look fabulous with the Hicks pendants.
Loooove Arteriors!!!
I think the second option will work best with the pendants you’ve already chosen. Or the last, but that’s pretty safe….
Love the first one- think it would add a wonderful touch of classic modern!
Erin — I’m loving either of the first two options. I like their simple design but they still have lots of wow. I agree that the chandelier is too much.
Marci
Love the last 2! Can’t wait to see the finished product as I live vicariously through you in my 2-room home:) Feel Better!
I think the second one will go best with everything else you have selected. I think the first one would overpower the Hicks pendants, and the third one would as well. I actually don’t mind the last one either, but if you think it’s too safe, then I would go with #2. Good luck deciding!
Cant wait to see what you pick, my choice would be the Auburn Chandelier.
Feel better! I am on the 11th day of the flu and am JUST feeling more normal.
The second option for sure! Get better soon!
# 2, from Arteriors if you go with those great round bulbs, which mimic the shape of the pendants, while the little rectangle at the bottom looks a lot like the chain on the Hicks pendant. The lines of it are striking but thin enough that they still allow the pendants to take center stage.
I also really like the last one, which makes sense since I always lean towards safe! But for you, I think #2 is the winner.
My vote is for 2 or 4!
One of the first two from arteriors
Number 2!!
My vote is for the simple yet modern version from Arteriors!
Here’s why-
the pendents are a super statement- modern yet industrial and classic- LOVE them. I like the way this light fixture in particular does not compete with their statement makingness- yet it is unique enough that it isn’t boring. I also like the way the round bulbs compliment the roundness of the pendents!
Oh- and I love the first one too- but I think it would be competeing with thet pendents for sure!
FEEL BETTER!!
Second from Arteriors…your people are speaking here Erin! ;)
The first one is my fave! Feel better!
Auburn. It goes well with the kitchen lights. Feel better and good luck!
You can’t go wrong, but wondering – could you change out the shades in the last one to make that a little more fun? Or simply paint a band of black (or is that navy in the pendant lights?) around the top portion of each shade?
I love, love, love the first one. The ones you already own plus this one are two fixtures I drool over regularly but are currently out of my budget. I say, go for it!!
I like the Arteriors and the Visual Comfort light fixtures.
The retro one you love!!!
I like the Arteriors one best.
I’ve been reading your blog your a while, love your work and can’t wait to see how the kitchen and dining room turn out!
I like #1 and #2. I also like this Soffione 24 light by Lightology: http://lightology.com/index.php?module=prod_detail&prod_id=38756&cat_id=11
Feel better!
1 or 2!! Now if only you could have Nate Turner come over and make everything all better! :)
I like the Paris chandelier and the Hudson Valley lantern best! I think that if you want the chandelier to make a statement then go for it! Pick a fixture you ADORE and not a safe one that ‘goes.’ You’re going to be looking at this thing for years, so pick something that you love so much you want to look at it for the next decade!
I vote the second Arteriors fixture! The round bulbs are a subtle nod to your round Hicks pendants! Otherwise, I think you could do chandelier bulbs and use ivory, mini-drum shades with navy or grey trim. The shades would create a cool juxtaposition between contemporary and traditional!
the second one..simple modern arteriors. it is not too overwhelming to compete with the hicks pendants in the kitchen, and the globe lights echo the round hicks pendants. perfect compliment.
#2 or #4 would be best with the kitchen pendants. I think the rest are a little too busy and might compete. Can’t wait to see the kitchen!!
I love your first choice! Fun, with some energy!
Your home is shaping up so nicely. So much
admiration for your work……
I love the first one, and the second one is my next pick. I am loving your entire house!!!
If everything’s a statement, then nothing is. I had the same dilemma when I remodeled. My kitchen, dining room tv room and breakfast room are all open to each other. I put the statement chandelier in the dining room (with the highest, most dramatic ceiling) and more traditional, simpler lighting elsewhere. I get compliments on all of it, because I think people can focus on it. If I put “WOW” lighting everywhere, I think it becomes redundant. Good luck! (Oh – so #2 or #6)
I would pick the last one – you are going to tire quickly of the more modern fixtures and I think your instincts are correct – they are going to compete for attention with the kitchen fixtures (which are awesome). Feel better!
I love both the first and second light from Arteriors, but I’m leaning towards the Auburn. I think it would help balance out all the round-ness. Good luck!
I know you’ve always loved the Petite Paris so pick something you love..have u thought abt potential bar stool options for your kitchen that go with your lighting?
Definitely the first one – a little unexpected which prevents the space looking too designed, but still very complimentary! Love it! The second one is great, but agree that it’s a little busy and ‘leggy’. The last one would look nice but W-A-Y too safe…. :-)
