As we take a breather from construction and plan out the kitchen I have been trying to think about decorating this joint. It’s a serious case of “the cobbler’s children have no shoes” because I have SUCH issues deciding on a style for my own home. Anyone else’s home, no problem. But when it comes to this house I want to make careful decisions and be patient and wait for what I love as opposed to furnish just for the sake of furnishing (advice I give clients all the time too). So I am treating myself like a client and making scheme boards for each room. It’s good to have a plan even if you aren’t buying everything all at once. I thought I’d start with the sunroom (which we plan to eventually make a 4 season room) so instead of patio furniture I’m going with real living room pieces. In the 6 weeks we’ve been here I’ve spent more time in this space then any other. And this week I saw this sofa on Joss & Main and snapped it up on impulse, which I never do. I hope it works out! I knew I wanted the room to be neutral with a pop of green, specifically Peter Dunham’s Fig Leaf print for a couple throw pillows. The room is all sliding glass doors so I want the palette to be calm and not compete with the trees and grass outside. I picked up two Target wood side tables this week as mentioned on yesterday’s post and am snagging a used CB2 lucite table from a friend! Adding in a Dash and Albert indoor/outdoor rug, a cozy throw for snuggling out there on chilly evenings and maybe even a leather butterfly chair, which reminds me of The Parker, one of our favorite hotels. On the brick wall a small limed wood console for books and plants and above that a cool leather wrapped mirror.
I have to say, I love it!!!
One room down, six to go!
What the room looks like now (full of borrowed furniture from my parent’s barn and random left overs from our apartment)- we’re going to put in french doors and a new floor and (ideally!) vault the ceiling with white wood beans!

your vision is perfect. i absolutely love the terrariums.
Your board is absolute perfection for this room! I loved it and when I scrolled down to see the space I just thought PERFECTION!
I would live in this room, too!! That lucite table is wonderful…wait till the sun hits it “just right.” franki
Those white wood beans will look great. I believe you meant “beams”
That is such a gorgeous space! I can see why you spend so much time out there. The sofa you bought is AMAZING and I love the two side tables from Target as well! Thanks for continually updating us on your home remodel. I love watching it progress week by week!
It’ll look great! Can you (or anyone) tell me where those vertical book shelves are from? Thanks!
@Emily, really???
I think it will look wonderful, and I look forward to seeing the completed project!
I can so relate to the cobbler’s kids when it comes to decorating my home. You are wise to put your vision to paper so to speak. This space is so inviting, love the Peter Dunham Fig as well as your mix of textures. Your plans for the space sound awesome, but it looks inviting even in it’s current state.

I loooove watching your remodel news!!! Also, where are those current bookshelves from???
Erin, If that wood floor is a parquet floor from yesteryear, before you replace it, try painting it white. My friend just reconfigured her whole house and ran out of money. The house is gorgeous, but guess what my favorite thing is — that floor!!!!!
Bookshelves are the Design Within Reach Sapien!
Love the remodel posts. Can you (or anyone else) tell me where I can find one of those Moroccan-looking glass star lamps like the one in your pix? Thanks!
How nice is it to have a sun room?! So jealous. I feel like the first few sentences are straight from my head. I’m having so much trouble doing my bedroom and I just want it all done, but I know I need to patient and it will all come together eventually. I love the decor you went with, as always! I think Joss & Main is a goldmine :)
Awesome room! Love those sapien bookshelves and actually just all of the details in the room… so great!
Ooo, I like that couch! I hope it’s comfy too. You’ll have to give us a review and let us know which Joss and Main sale it was from so we can keep an eye out for it, if it ends up being a good piece.
love the design too- that couch is wondreful with the high wrap around back- it looks like a little cacoon! Cant wait to see it complete!
World Market has an almost identical butterfly chair that is super inexpensive. It may not be that fab in person, but if it is, it might save you a couple hundred dollars to put toward those new floors!
What a great room. I love your design board. I saw the butterfly chair in person and I loved it! When I returned home, I did notice it got some bad reviews online so you might want to double check the quality in person.
Oh my – wouldn’t touch the ceiling. Makes it nice and cozy.
Love it all! I almost bought the CB2 lucite table but it seemed strangely low (13.75″). Have you seen it in person? Does it seem low? Thanks!
Bax and Ollie will love getting mud and mulch on that couch. It is great looking and inviting but…….. Just saying.
Loving the sunroom! I think white beams would look awesome but the way it is right now looks pretty good too.
Love. Love love. It is going to look so amazing when you are all set. It looks amazing now!
I have to say, I love the contrast with the wood beams in their natural state…Have you thought about not painting them white?
I’d proceed cautiously on that ceiling. I understand the white-painted-beam look and love it but you may not have a “pretty” beamed ceiling hiding under there. That beadboard is really handsome. If you decide to take it off, I would gladly buy it. Seriously.
Steve- I know, we’d install a new beamed ceiling- but this wont happen for YEARS- we have a kitchen and an addition to do first so the beadboard is staying for a while!
When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox
and now each time a comment is added I get three emails with
the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service?
Many thanks!
Love the couch you’re thinking of adding to your sunroom.
Please forgive me if this is a stupid question (I’m first generation American and never really used this term) but what is a sun room?
Thanks guys and Erin this looks like it will turn out beautifully.
Skye, a sun room is usually a small room at the front or back of the house with lots of large windows, so it literally gets a lot of sun. Sometimes it’s a glassed-in verandah. It’s an extra living space for reading or having afternoon tea, and it bridges the gap between inside and out. It’s great for winter, because you can enjoy the outdoors without being outdoors, and the sun makes the room relatively warm. :)
Hmm it looks liκe your site ate mу first comment (it was
super long) ѕo I guеss I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thοгoughly enjoying
your blog. I as wеll am аn aspirіng blog writer but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any suggestions for inexperienced blog writers? I’d definіtely appгеciate it.
