I have to admit to you guys- despite my best efforts to kick and scream and hate the burbs… I am SO much happier here than I was in the city! Yes, we do live so close to the city that some people laugh when I call where we live “the burbs” and we live two short blocks from lots of fabulous restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques. But to me, it’s still the burbs. But I friggin’ love it! Even though our house has a kitchen that has the amenities that border on that of a campsite (no dishwasher, no disposal, super old rickety stove and musty cabinets that smell like death) I still am much happier here! Maybe it’s because Baxter and Oliver are over the friggin’ moon about this move and the fact that they have a yard and a big park steps away from the house. Lets be honest, most of the reason I bought this place is for them (cue obvious unhealthy relationship with my canine children). Hey, whatever works, right?
As I explore my neighborhood I want to share it with you- like this amazing home store belonging to fellow designer Liz Caan that is right down the street- not only is it adorable on the outside (black and white stripe awning, I die), but I love the inside too. :)
How charming is the exterior? And I am totally going to paint an old dresser of mine like the one below with the stripe and some funky brass hardware! LOVE!
The interior of this secretary is wallpapered in Scalamandre’s zebra paper!
This custom coffee table done in Hicks La Fiorentina grasscloth- and loving the striped lacquer boxes too!
A little bit of heaven, right?

Yay, so happy that you are loving this move! Your neighborhood looks charming!
So glad you shared this! I’ve lived in Newton for just over a year and drive by Liz’s store every day on my way to work. I’ve always meant to stop in and take a peek.
Love the dresser..and so many other things that I see in this post..xx meenal
Erin, sometimes I feel like our lives parallel each others so much! I too left city life after much agony and bought a place in the burbs that I’m gutting. It’s funny because my new place is in a cute town and my house is 4 blocks from J Crew and Banana- I never had that kind of location inside Philly limits. Plus the close parks and back yard are great for my doggy too. Why was I so attached to the idea that coolness = city?
Now how do I get to meet Oprah too? wink wink.
PS- Liz Caan looks adorable. Hoping to visit my aunt in December and she lives in Wellesley. I’ll have to see if it is nearby.
What a beautifully colorful place! I would love to go there on a rainy day for a cheery reprieve!
Naomi! Wellesley is SO close to me (and Liz Caan) so email me when you are coming and we can grab coffee!
So glad to hear you are happy in your new area! And take it from me, as someone who has both canine and human children – you will always make decisions based on what’s best for your kids, be they furry or not!
I drive by this place all the time en route for a mani at Mini Luxe. I need to check it out! xx
I need to copy that dresser as well now! Major eye candy!

Adorable stuff! I know what you mean, I used to live in an apartment downtown and then I moved literally 5 blocks east to what I consider the “burbs” with a big yard and a front porch and I am over the moon! I am so glad to hear you are enjoying the new space.
Thanks for sharing, I will head out there for sure. I’m a big fan of your blog Erin — you have been an inspiration and the oomph for me to start my own! Congratulations on your new home as well you are doing an amazing job as I would expect!
Hi Erin,
Do you know what that big puffy yellow flower is called hanging in the Liz Caan store above the striped dresser? There’s also a fuschia one seen in another pic. I’d love to get one but I don’t know what it’s called.
Thanks!
olivia
Erin, since Wellesley is up the street, come over to my hood and see Carter Dayton Home!
It is at 276 Washington Street. You will want to move into his store. It is that fabulous! Michael has the most amazing taste and he is is such a great guy! Go right now , you will love it! I guarantee it!
Hi Erin,
Thanks so much for your post. We are signing papers with our realtor today to put our downtown (beloved) condo on the market with plans to move to our house in the ‘burbs. I know deep down that its the next step for us but I’m so freaked out! Yes, our English bulldog will have a huge yard and ill have my own office space along with a basement for the mister BUT I’m overwhelmed with the renovations and, most of all, worried that the lack of hustle and bustle with leave me lonely. So, again, thank you. You really made this day a little easier for me.
Best,
Alison
That store looks amazing! I need to come to Boston one of these days and check it out
Wow Erin!! I’ve been so in love with Liz store, and you are telling me you live right down the street!! It would me so dangerous to me to be living so close! My credit card would be so ruined!! I bougt the same aqua blue lackered boxes she has there, and the black and white ones!…
Wow, how gorgeous! I just love how bright and colorful it is! Very fun. Wish I could visit!
