E-Design Living Room & Lindsay Cowles Art

We’ve LOVED working remotely with clients in all parts of the country- some on whole homes and others on just one room they want to modernize.  This remote client in Pennsylvania wanted to update her living room which had great bones but no personality.  Here are the before shots she sent us….

Here is the scheme we came up with- navy and burnt orange with natural linen and doses of white…

And here is the room now- we also changed the fireplace surround to make it cleaner and gave the room and once over with a neutral paint color.  We put an existing portrait front and center flanked by modern sconces and the room brightened up immensely! Some store bought white drapes were made custom by adding a cuff of tan fabric to play off the rug color.

Instead of using pre-made art anyone could buy we commissioned a painting by artist Lindsay Cowles for the room using the fabrics and colors already selected!

We created a little desk space behind the sofa…

The back of the bookcases got a dose of navy (looks more cobalt in this shot but it’s not!)

On the built in under the window we set up a little bar too…

Lindsay is now and EOS sponsor and a real delight to work with! Here are some more works by her available through her site.

Prints are available through Saatchi Online too!

  1. The book case is such a huge transformation. I also love the console/desk area and how she could just swing that chair around for additional seating if she’s having guests. Great job!

  2. So much brigther than before the makeover. Love the color scheme! And I have to know where you found that lucite tray with the knot detail; my September wedding has a knot vibe, and I’d love to snag that tray as a program holder. Thanks!

  3. Love the coffee table and have been looking for one just like it! Who makes this one?

  4. These are my favorite posts, when you show us what you’re working on. Looking at the “before” photos I was thinking, This is just a bit bland, but not so bad. Then, blam! Your changes are so awesome! I love the fireplace situation, and the elegant desk behind the sofa. It’s so much more sophisticated and cheerful now. Kudos!

  5. love the new look that you guys have given this room….the subtle changes definitely made a big difference. love the fact that you’ve added a color to the built in which matches with the lamps. For me, I think the color from Benjamin Moore’s call “Dragonfly” would be nice too against the white built in as an alternative. What do you think?

  6. Love Love Love the chairs!!! Do share the company who makes them!! ;) Amazing transformation as usual!!

  7. Wow, I love this room transformation! The room was not bad to start with, but with your touches it looks so chic and sophisticated. Love that you kept everything pretty simple in design and colors, but it just took the whole room to a whole new level. Your design skills are amazing!

  8. Your designs seriously make me happy! They are so clean and unfussy with the perfect amount of interest! Thanks for sharing! I love it!

  9. Beautiful update! I agree so much brighter. Do you mind listing the paint color you used on the walls? Thanks!

  12. Hi! I would love to know who makes the coffee table as well. It looks like just the perfect size I am looking for!

  13. The room looks great! I love the sconces above the fireplace and the coffee table. Can you tell me who makes the coffee table?

  14. Shades of orange with navy is my absolute favorite!! Did that with my bedroom and then moved in with my boyfriend… You shod do a post on melding styles! I certainly need advice on how to do that.

  15. Its really fun to see your work projects! I love how personal your blog has remained! Its my favorite blog, a lot of blogs lack a soul, yours is REAL which I love! Keep up the good work!
