I have been loving the onslaught of peplum styles as of late. Especially after reading the new Matchbook last night and seeing the outfit below left in their pages! The tight waist, flared hip cut can be super flattering on a bevy of shapes- defining a waist on a curvier body or adding some shape to a straight figure. Found on tops (my fave), jackets, dresses and skirts (least fave)- I prefer the more subtle versions rather than the Judy Jetson look of the more defined and severe ones. See some variety of the style below (and click on the images for their sources)
Here are two outfits I put together using the trend- one more funky and casual and the other proper and pretty (and a mini-peplum for those nervous to try the look)- both topped with a classic black tuxedo blazer, of course. :)

My heart stopped at that Gilda jacket. GORGEOUS!
I love this trend, and it is perfect for camouflaging what I would like to be covered up :)
Emma Watson. oh. my. god. too good.
I actually prefer the peplum on skirts rather than tops, perhaps because shirts are normally short on me and that would be hideously unflattering
in dramatic fashion
I love the look of that grey peplum blazer with jeans. What a great way to look casual but still polished and on trend!

This look just ROCKS! It’s baaaack and I LUV it. Even to wearing the longer shirt tails (slightly scrunched) with shorter jacket (sweater, etc) over…to a full fledged peplum. Great photos! franki
I love peplums! I really find the higher-quality fine designer brands to do the best kind of peplums that flatter women and drape well. However, just so your younger readers know, Lilly Pulitzer even has a few peplum dresses this season! So have at it.

All the best…
I like the peplum look, so classy and elegant. It’s funny how I wore it in the 80′s as a child and it’s back.
I love everything you posted here, gorgeous!! Wish I could find a (ahem less expensive) version of that leopard top!!! It is amazing, love!
the peplum silhouette is one of my favorites, not least because it is so flattering on most people! i found a great anthro top with a peplum flair and it has been my office [and date night!] favorite lately!
Wow!! The left look is so sassy. Love it! Also, that Gilda jacket is kind of amazing. I never in a bagillion years would’ve guessed it’s from an Etsy shop. Can you imagine with skinnies and riding boots????
I so love peplum detailing…especially Michelle Williams’ Louis Vuitton Oscar dress (SWOON) which made the best dressed list on ruelechat.com
I was afraid to try to peplum look because I didn’t think extra fabric around my waist would do me any good…but it’s actually flattering (at least the Milly dress I tried on was). I love the green jacket! Have a great weekend!
I LOVE BOTH! I normally don’t comment on the fashion posts even when I like them but these I both love especially because jackets or shirts with the flaired waist is something I have and like.
That beautiful dress Emma Watson is wearing….OMG…love:)
My wedding dress had a peplum. It was so elegant and romantic. Love this post.
great post! I love the outfits you put together. I ditto Miya…normally don’t comment on fashion posts, but this one’s just too fantastic!
I love that black tuxedo jacket and Sanderson pumps. You need to have a second blog for fashion. Seriously.
This is one trend I’m very excited to try. Nothing is more ladylike.
Love the lime green cocktail dress!!! (wish I was that size! to wear it) cute ideas, thanks!
