Fashion Friday: The Great White Shirt

One of fashion’s most basic classics is the white shirt.  Done up or done down this piece is such an icon of American fashion that everyone needs to have a good one in their closet.  I have been on the hunt for the perfect white shirt for a while- one with men’s style and detail but a woman’s fit.  This week I think I found it- the Great White Shirt from sister designers Claridge + King.  The details are that of the shirts we borrowed from our Dads and boyfriends- starched stand up collar (YAY!), longer length and fabulous buttons and cuff details.  So chic with jeans or tucked into a sexy pencil skirt…

Some inspiration for styling the basic white button down shirt:

Happy weekend, dear readers!

I love the look of a classic white shirt, but being curvy with an ample bust and tiny waist makes it really difficult to find a good fit!

  2. I love this look! Happy weekend! xx

I adore the clean lines and classic look of a simple white shirt, and am always incorporating this into my wardrobe. By the way, I love your blog design, looks fantastic! Have a wonderful weekend!

A kindred spirit….having spent years filling my closet with white shirts I finally found success. Classic white popover shirt from Ann Mashburn! Wore it all over Paris last week and felt great…equally suitable for my small town life in SC. Enjoy your blog

    Great post and great inspiration.

I also love the classic white shirt but have trouble with fit because of my bustline. I’m thinking that maybe Sharon Stone’s version above with a cami might be the answer.

This is a favorite post of mine…kind of evocative in its simplicity. I love understated style and I find the different ways to style a white to be fun. :)

  11. Can’t beat a beautiful white shirt. Great round up of inspiration images! Have you seen EmersonMade’s white shirt? It’s SO sexy…but I suspect it’s just the way she wears it: http://shop.emersonmade.com/emerson-white-shirt

  12. Totally love white shirts and the pictures. It is difficult to find a good fit if your bra cup size is larger than a C. Rebecca and Drew makes a great shirt where the sizing includes bra size. http://www.rebeccaanddrew.com It’s the only one I have found where the buttons don’t gap at the chest.

  13. I invested in an Elizabeth & James white button down shirt a few years ago, and I am so glad I did! I love the details, and it is so versatile!

  14. Looks like I know what needs to make an appearance outside of the closet soon. My favorite look is the white blouse with the tweed skirt and oversized black bag. Need this in my life.

  15. I love white shirts. Dress them up, dress them down, either way they are always classy and always beautiful. Thanks for the lovely inspirational post!

Love this look! It’s never out of style, and so sharp and professional looking, yet comfortable even for a Saturday afternoon. I’m going to have to start doing the full skirt / white shirt mix though- love that photo with the tied white shirt and the full dark mustard brown skirt… Even better when it’s made to measure- like Ferknot’s http://www.ferknot.com/product_dtls.php?pid=24&colorid=
