Fashion Flashback: Stubbs & Wootton

Stubbs & Wootton slippers are items straight of the Preppy Handbook.  I associate them with summers in Nantucket/Newport, gin & tonics and women names Muffy.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE all that being a prepster at the core.  And so it’s to my delight that Stubbs slippers are ALL the rage right now!  After a summer of strappy stillettos and sky-high wedges, the thought of crisp fall days with cute skinny corduroy pants and the flat slip ons seems like heaven! I may ahve to add these to my London trip wishlist!

These are some current offerings I’m loving.  The velvet it my favorite by far.

You can even do bespoke monograms for a VERY pretty penny!

Our dear Olivia Palermo clearly has an affinity for these as she’s been spotted wearing a few versions multiple times. If Olivia deems them cool, then they must be cool.

Kanye is Stubbs & Wootton’s biggest fan. Hey, he can rock them!

Blair from Atlantic-Pacific (clearly my new girl crush) has a fab pair from Zara that she’s styles with an edgier outfit and a preppier one and they look so killer both ways.

J.Crew is hawking their own versions of the S&W slipper this season in TWO versions of leopard (I can;t tell you how thrilled I am the everyone joined me on the leopard train this season.)

I love the velvet crest pair…naturally, they are the most expensive.

ASOS combines both the leopard and the crest in one reasonably priced package!

I have to say I had a blast on the bespoke site creating shoes for my family. Silly, no one would wear them (the dudes, at least) but the patches you can choose form are HILARIOUS!

For Mom the super-gardner-topiaries. For Dad- Sailboats for his dream beach house.

For my brother Connor (the yogi) buddha and Mike golf stuff

And for Andrew, dolla, dolla bills y’all! (Sorry honey, they didn’t have an iPad or squash raquets) and for me(BEGRUDGINGLY) frogs. Yes, it’s my nickname. No, I’m not going to get into it and Mom, if you buy these for me I will yell at you (she buys me anything with a Frog on it now).

  1. Can’t get enough of these shoes! Lucky for me I find them all the time in Palm Beach thrift shops already broken in and
ready to go. I love the dollar bill logo….may have to find those and break them in myself. Perhaps I can kick a few bankers
and that would do the job.

  2. Stubbs and Wootton is the real deal, but other options equally as nice are By Paige and Del Toro. Belgian Shoes, however, started it all decades ago. Founded by Henri Bendel they are the true originals.

  3. I love them..an absolute must this Fall. Nordstrom Rack has them for a song right now in grey flannel. Great post. Cheers for the weekend..

  4. I really love these. Alas, I have to wait a very long time until the style trickles down to the masses so I can afford some. I don’t know of any cheap-o pairs, but I definitely love the leopard ones. Insane.

  5. this is crazy; i grew up in newport, au pairing at Bailey’s Beach. All the old, rich people used to wear these. ANDDDD now they’re mainstream.

(**Disclaimer: all the “rich, old people” used to rock those “gross, brown bags with the letters on it” too when I was in college. Now, I’m dying for a vintage Louis.)

  6. Olivia makes them look great! I love the leopard ones. I just started following Blair this week…yes, I quickly developed a girl crush too. Her style is amazing!

  7. Pricey but cute. In my prep school days, our parents wore these shoes so they were very un-cool. Beat-up Topsiders, clogs and Tretorns were “in”. But, now I’m definitely dating myself.

  8. Got my first pair a couple of weeks ago – can’t wait to wear them. Had great fun playing with the bespoke design feature on their website – I’m thinking something funky is in my future!

  9. Erin,

What other items are prepster must haves? Have you ever read Nina Garcia’s ‘100?’ You should totally do your own version of that…right here on EOS! It doesn’t have to be exactly 100 items but just the top ten (or whatever number) of essential preppy must haves.

I knew nothin about Stubbs & Wootton slippers and thanks to you now I do! They are pretty awesome sauce and now I have to get a pair. You’re right, the perfect choice after all the sandals and heels this summer.

Thanks, hope to see more (of all your style info) soon. Thanks again.

  10. I had a needlepoint pair from Talbots years back–almost exactly like these! Don’t worry ladies, they’ll be back in lass expensive brands very soon! But I do love the Navajo ones!!

  11. I just want you to know I showed a picture of these shoes to some dudes and asked “Would you want to sleep with a girl wearing those shoes?” and received a resounding “NO!”

    FYI.

  12. @ Evelyn,

I think it’s all about style and attitude in m opinion! Guys don’t know what they want until they see it! If you can rock the shoes with confidence and edge than I don’t think most red blooded men really care what’s on your feet! :D
