I am feeling preppy lately. And if you’ve known me beyond this blog you know that I have preppiness in my blood. As a product of an all girls boarding school with notable alums named Jackie, Lilly and Polly and someone who spent summers on the New England shore I have a pretty refined preppy palette. Over the years it’s faded and been covered up by other aesthetics but it’s still style most ingrained in me. And lately I feel it coming back, but in a more modern way. Long gone are the days of Lilly dresses (and forcing my now husband to wear a matching Lilly tie-UGH) and men’s J.Crew cable sweaters and hair bows- but here are some images that are really inspiring me for this summer- both in my home and closet:
Some fun modern preppy details for home and self:
A new take on the classic American craftsmanship from O&G Studio
Nautical rope bracelets get hip with dip dye from A+R Store
These prints (from Etsy seller RococcoCo.) done on old dictionary pages would make an incredible series on a wall.
Boat shoes are BACK for spring- Cole Haan and classic Sperry Top Sider among them.
Anthropologie has a cute striped blazer with nautical buttons you could don while sipping a G&T in their cool outdoor rattan chair!

Love it – I seem to be channeling my “inner preppy” lately too Erin! Great post – thinking of my Summer fun in Nantucket!

I’m as preppy as they come and have no SHAME in it bring on the preppy summer seahorses and anchors!
A beautiful collection of images – I can’t wait for summer! Those rope bracelets reminded me of the kind, as a child, you used to affix to your wrist at the beginning of summer and as they were abused by sea and sand shrank so you couldn’t get them off. My mother used to have to bribe me to allow her to cut it off at the end of summer. And, I’m adoring the turquoise chair!

classic American design never goes out of style…good post, Erin. Love the it girl with the striped shirt and leather clutch, the Cape with roses and the Victoria Hagan living room.
when we were kids, a Cape visit was not complete without a drive to Osterville to get rope bracelets, we wore them until they were disgusting,…. kids in school(in a Cincinnati suburb) asked us where they could buy them, an exclusive item, we wore them proudly

I like the more masculine looks — loafers, men’s cut trousers, blazers and collared shirts — and mixing it with great hair and makeup.

Completely down with the preppiness! I had never heard of rope bracelets until today. Now I don’t know how I ever lived without them?
I love this post. I am a born and raised New Englander- NEWPORT at that. The preppy capital of the world! When I was a teenager and in my early 20s we thought “preppy” was a dirty word. Now, i am owning my inner preppy! My grandparents would be so proud…
