Some News

Dearest Readers,

I wanted to let you all know that as of Monday myself, editor Shannon Wollack and art director Ashley Steen have parted ways with High Gloss Magazine. It was a very difficult but necessary decision, and while I won’t go into details, I hope you will trust that it is for the best. We wish High Gloss success in their upcoming issues and look forward to new opportunities on the horizon for us all.  I hope the new readers to this blog will continue to check back is as I continue to work hard to bring you fun, exciting and original content. Have a happy and relaxing weekend wherever you are.

With Gratitude,

Erin Gates

  1. Hi Erin,

EoS is one of the blogs that inspired me to start my own – and I love it (both your blog and writing my own!). Funnily enough, I’m not even a fashionista and couldn’t comment on how to put together looks and all that- (agree with Shannon above – please do ‘spring picks!’ for us!) – but what I really like is how you walk this fine balance between your commercial work, and being so honest with us.

Your statement above is very carefully worded, and so strikes me as an agreed mail. We’ve seen much more vulnerable posts from you, and so I know that this is something that must have taken you a while to get to. High Gloss had such potential ( I suppose it still does, just a different potential) but what makes blogging so powerful (at least for me) is the personal connection – when I look through those that I follow, its where bloggers are able to be personal about whatever they write about – design/fashion/kids/interiors/lifestyle. That’s hard in an online magazine – it lands up looking like a catalogue when you’re trying to work with editorial egos (yup, half a decade in women’s mags taught me that!), and is seems we’re all here for you, and your work! Your work with High Gloss led me to some other blogs that I follow now too, but its the individuality of each of those creative people that is so interesting, and High Gloss wasn’t greater than the sum of its creative parts. I’m sure it will in time of course, I know it was a launch issue – it will just be different parts!

At the beginning of this year, and in your Valentine’s post, you wrote so personally about what you wanted for yourself – both those were so inspiring – at the risk of jumping to conclusions, it sounds to me like you did what you had to do –
    – and that means that you’re doing the right thing for you, which spins off into fab things for all of us, your audience!

whoop whoop – wishing you well and looking forward to what comes next

  2. I’m sure this was a difficult decision, I’m shocked! Good that you followed your gut though and got out before you were in too deep. Sending hugs your way!

  3. Was just browsing through comments to make sure that you were getting the support you deserve before deciding if I needed to just repeat what everyone else had already said, when I came across this little gem,”

That’s what happens when you get a whole bunch of white blonde girls together.
    They never learn.”

And I literally laughed out loud. Best wishes to you, Erin, but I have no doubt that any new venture you take on will be fabulous. And as a blond who never learns, thanks to Jaz for making me laugh today. I really really needed it.

  4. Hi Erin,

Your blog is the first I read whenever I can steal a moment away for one of my addictions. Anyway, I must agree with what a lot of your devoted followers have posted, especially what Cynthia wrote…”You have informed us in a very professional way which speaks volumes about your integrity.” I love all your postings and they are very inspirational. Your personality comes right through and that’s one of the main things that will always keep me coming back!

  5. I’m sorry that there was a reason for you to part ways with High Gloss, but as a reader I’m delighted that your news wasn’t about your blog. Still reading, still learning, still being inspired..
