First off, I apologize if this page takes forever to load as there are a ton of pictures (all from Style.com- go there to see the full shows!)
Secondly, for the most part I thought fashion week was a disappointment. It seems like Fall 2011 is all about Man Repelling. I don;t understand why people want women to dress ugly. What’s so wrong with pretty??? Today I am going to post the shows I actually liked and save the snarky commentary on the ugly parade for Monday (yaaaaaaay).
The trends for fall were obvious and shown across all shows:
1) Menswear on women (I refuse to get on board with the female bowtie. You have to be sh*tting me with that one)
2) RED! RED! RED!
3) Fur (faux or otherwise)
4) Separates (the season of the skirt suit )
5) Draping/ interesting collars
6) Jumpsuits for evening
7) Sequins! Sequins! Sequins!
8) Black is the new black. Again.
MICHAEL KORS: Love him because he is a superstar who never lets me down with his sexy, glamorous classics. The textures, clean lines and flattering cuts make his line wearable (unlike a lot of other shows).
NAEEM KHAN: I worship this guy and if I were to walk a red carpet I would probably go to him first. Simply stunning stuff here.
CAROLINA HERRERA: I did not like a lot of her show, but the things I did like, I LOVED. The turquoise and deep red print dress knocked my socks off.
MONIQUE LHUILLIER: Leopard gown? Duh. Loves it. She knows how to fit a woman’s body in a flattering, fabulous way.
RALPH LAUREN: His whole show was nearly all black and these evening looks were SO SO chic.
L’WREN SCOTT: She cuts a MEAN silhouette- I loved the purpley pink and red combo!
JASON WU: Mark my words- these gowns will show up on the Oscar red carpet (if they don’t I will protest against they stylists- that red dress is beyonfd fierce!) He also showed a lot of the lady bowtie which I hated, but his menswear cuts were lean and fab.
BADGLEY MISCHKA: They always kill it with their red carpet looks. I also loved the layering of the cropped sweater over the sequin shift!
LELA ROSE: Love me some Lela (one of the best bridal lines out there too, BTW). This first ombre dress is one of my favorite looks of all of fashion week. The asymmetrical necklines make me swoon too.
RACHEL ZOE: I was pleasantly suprised by her line, unlike some other celeb designers (I’m talking to you Kelly Wearstler)- I am dying over the sexiness of that black suit- holy moly. And that camel cape needs to be in my closet like, yesterday.
CATHERINE MALANDRINO: Sexy, fun, wearable silhouettes. One of the only jumpsuits I would wear (in addition to Kors). Awesome necklines!
Check back in Monday for the worst of the runway! Happy weekend!

Fur is still around? Ugh. I saw the menswear for women coming, but never called the sequins. Glad the latter is back.
I have to admit that you chose some great looks to feature even though you weren’t thrilled with the whole week. I loved the Monique Lhuillier suit ensemble with the taupey grey jacket and black bow. Jason Wu feathered goodness, Naeem Khan black and red mini yes please! Can’t wait to see what you hated. Have a great weekend and thanks!x0
I’m totally agreeing with you…all the pics I have been seeing of Fashion week have been atrocious! These are absolutely gorgeous, I’m glad at least one person hasn’t jumped on the frumpy, rumpled, man train! (c: Apparently I’m not alone in having Naeem Khan and Jason Wu as my favorites…but seriously, that Rachel Zoe cape is *insanely* good. Have a great weekend!
In love with Catherine Malandrino’s high waisted trousers and black shirt. And, of course, would love to have anything and everything Michael Kors in my closet. I agree that the Rachel Zoe line–the cape, the vest, the jeans with ankle zippers, all are to die for!
ummmmmm….
gorgeous. i want all of it.
i agree with all of these- can money just grow on trees, please?! cannot wait for the snarky comments on monday ;)
[...] don’t know about you but I am loving all the fashion week FW 2011 coverage everywhere like this, this and [...]
you are very funny! I just posted a piece about how I hate menswear trends too. Ha ha!!
I was quite disappointed with the collections too. I guess fall isn’t a very feminine season. In a lot of cases I thought the people on the street (from style.com) looked better than the models on the runways! I did like Michael Kors’s shimmery dresses (like the second one pictured), but why did Ralph Lauren (who I always love) do an almost all black collection? Kind of a bummer :(
Can’t wait till Monday!
If all that goodness stems from a “ho hum” Fashion Week, I don’t think I’d be able to stand an awesome one. Now…bring on the SNARK!

You forgot leather. Lots of leather. I have to laugh about the bow tie. I was in NYC last weekend. The womon we were dining next to one of the evenings had a bow tie on. My brother was so distracted by it. He kept breaking out in laughter. He said the “bunny was cracking him up”. He is from Seattle, which made the look even more of a stretch. We would definately share your opinion on bow ties.
I am loving all of the red. Red is my favorite color to wear because when it is done right, it just pops! Loving the off-white sweater with the black bow in front! So cute!
I have to say I loved EVERYTHING from Michael Kors.
I LOVE Michael Kors…
and ralf lauren green dress..and Jasons RED dress..Rachel Zoes black costume..and white jacket
I agree with the jumpsuit from catherine..so nice :))
Michael Kors always has my vote…and RL Green dress….fo sho! The floor length gowns by Jason Wu, I think are my favorites. Great recap, thanks Erin. ~Jennifer
I was at the Michael Kors and Lela Rose (among others) and they were both fabulous!! Michael Kors was like going to the Oscars – one gorgeous outfit after another with a star studded audience. The vibe was electric. I was lucky enough to be in the front row at Lela Rose and let me tell you her evening gowns were spectacular – elegant, feminine and fresh!!
great post! love your choices…simple glamour and real clothes.
and yes, agree with your bowtie pov…just as aweful a trend to go back to as congress reviewing our rights right now :>
we will never go back.
You have a great eye! I agree
Totally with all of your comments! Michael Kors always is stunning and classic. And Herrerra is always a classic.
Great post thanks for bringing me a bit of new York!
Best!

I love the Man Repeller, she is hysterical. Agree with the why can’t we look pretty sentiment, but believe it or not I have to keep telling myself that! Why do I, at an (ahem) adult age, still try to wear trends that I dont’ even think are cute, much less look good on me?? UGGH!!!
I couldnt agree more! Plus, all of the iconic women in history have embraced being a lady and loving “pretty” things. Classic.
Cant wait to hear the honest snarky stuff tomorrow, though :)
Jason Wu killed it.
