I got to stop in to see the progress on one of my favorite projects last Friday and I have to say I was THRILLED beyond belief at how it looks. I partnered with designer Justine Sterling to do a complete kitchen renovation in this brownstone apartment. Before it was a small gallery kitchen and now it’s an open, bright, modern space that still blends in with the traditional architecture of the apartment. Lots of Carrera marble and a hint of Imperial Trellis in all the right places gives it such visual punch!
Before:

AFTER (pardon my Starbucks):

And in the living room the custom built ins I designed were built- loving the black backs! Next up our draps will be installed and finishing touches made (like bringing these babies over) and then I’ll be able to shoot it! :)

Totally understand why!! Looks fabulous!!

Beautiful job… totally transformed ~~
Amazing. Just looks beautiful. Can’t wait to see the rest.
I LOVE this! That Trellis is fabulous and I’m in love with the color palette! well done! xo
What an amazing transformation. So beautiful…can’t wait to see it all!
if my apartment can look like that, i’ll move back to boston. amazing!
OMG! I can’t wait for the detailed post.
Love that you continued the wallpaper into the cabinets. Really nice touch.
Stunning! Love the marble on the side of the island.
I cant wait to see the final before and after of the entire space!
Beautiful! what a transformation! I love all the marble and the impact the trellis print makes… can’t wait to see the finished project…
Wow Erin! Looks incredible! I love how the marble comes down the sides!
It looks fantastic! I’m excited to see it all once it’s completed.
Whoa, looks awesome! Doesn’t even remotely look like the same place.
That’s crazy kind of GAW-jus!
LOVE.IT. Looks like a totally different space.
ps. I’d love to hear your take on the Emmy dresses/tuxes.
wow, jaw dropping.

Gorgeous!! Just simply dreamy…
Just GORGEOUS! When I have $ some day I will hire you to do my kitchen/dining room remodel!!!
Though others have already said it, “GORGEOUS!” is exactly what came to mind for me, too. So elegant and well-thought-out. Perfect for the space. I would love to have that kitchen!
IMPRESSIVE! Well done, my dear, well done. I LOVE all the marble and the color palate. If I was able to rip my kitchen out (renter) and totally make a new one…I think this my just encapsulate what I would love to have!
Great improvement. I’m not thrilled about the open shelving though. To me this just seems to be a disaster in the making when it is in a kitchen. I just think of all the little bits of cooking grease that will slowly accumulate on any object placed there and then all the dust that ends up sticking to it. I guess if you can afford a cleaning lady, or want to clean it every week then its okay.
I do LOVE the marble.
Beautiful… I’m always fascinated by the kitchens of people who don’t have kids and don’t cook, since all that easily stained marble wouldn’t work if you had either.
This is gorgeous – where are the pendant lights from in the kitchen?
I think it looks very nice, however, surely the marble island/bar stool area does not really jut out the way it appears to in the photo? The fireplace mantel appears to be totally encroached by the end side of the marble.
Erin,
This space is now amazing! What a beautiful job. Have a lovely weeek.

This looks so great! What an awesome job you did!
I seriously adore this project SO MUCH! It is SO my style and up my alley! Awesome work!
This is so beautiful. I love white and carrera kitchens. Can’t wait to see it all come together!
It reminds me of Sabrina Linn’s apartment from House and Home which is one of my favorite kitchens! Love this!
Gorgeous! Love it, love it, love it! I might just have to get you to come to DC and do mine next…it needs tons of work for the teeny, tiny space that it is.
Beautiful! What a transformation! I love the Imperial Trellis wallpaper. That fireplace is very cool!
Wow – what a fantastic job you did – kudos!! I love absolutely everything about it – you really maximized that space in style. And I have to disagree with Emily – I had open shelving in my last kitchen and loved it. It looks so much more spacious and modern. If you put your everyday dishes, glasses etc. in it, they never have a chance to accumulate dust. And what, may I ask is the backsplash? Beautiful but hard to see – if you have a chance to elucidate. Thanks!
Do I see influences from the Anna Kohler dream apartment? Love the acrylic stools and carrera marble.
LOVE this redo!!!!!!! The color palette is so interesting for a kitchen and that wallpaper is to die for. I would actually spend more time cooking in a room like that. Fabulous!!
So pretty! I’m guessing the wall in the before photos is the one that was removed? What a huge difference that makes!
Wow! Stunning transformation! So is the island where the hallway was? I love white kitchens- great job!
Simply gorgeous. So clean and light! I can’t wait to see the final shoot.
Dear Erin, it’s CARRARA not carrera (namely a place in italy where the marble comes from).
This was a great partnership, thanks for the shout out Erin! I also think that the space is pretty tough to photograph, and looks SO much more gorgeous in person, trust me. Can’t wait to do the professional shots!
Wow. What a transformation. I’m drooling over that marble island – brilliant! Can’t wait to see the final touches. Great job!
love. love, love! Where are the lucite stools from?
Is that an Amanda Talley painting? I love her work, especially since she is a Louisiana native like me!
It is an Amanda Talley. You have terrific taste in artwork.
What a redo!!! This kitchen is gorgeous!! White cabinets AND Imperial Trellis…seriously?!? My heart is singing!
gorgeous! doesnt even look like the same place, the trellis wallpaper is incredible!
It is quite a transformation!! Very elegant. About those glass shelves–I’ll just bet she could have them sand blasted (etched) which would still give the open effect but not show every little thing!! But then again, if she’s a person who only boils water, not a problem! The stools are great, and the wallpaper and tile match that painting perfectly. She must be another very happy Erin Gates client!!! Love you-and we’re proud of you!
Beautiful and clean! I love the paint color in the adjacent room. The kitchen’s color scheme nicely flows into the other room. Do you mind sharing what color that was? Thanks!
