Fashion Friday: EOS Spring Essentials

I ran into one of my favorite styling clients yesterday at yoga and she reminded me that I had to gather some suggestions for spring clothing! So here are my spring 2010 essentials. I’ll do accessories and mens next Friday,  but I wanted to pin-point the items that I’d get if only allowed a certain number of things in a wardrobe. Click HERE to see the larger version with links:

1) OUTERWEAR: The three musts: a classic trench, denim jacket and shrunken leather jacket. if you have extra cash a military style blazer and safari jacket/anorak would also suit you very well!
2) A striped bateau tee is a “for certain” purchase. With denim, tucked into a mini skirt or over a bikini on the beach, it’s a versatile classic.
3) Drapey cardigan- I love the way these look with skinny jeans, a great white tank and long necklace.
4) Slouchy tee/ one shouldered top- the one shown combined both trends, but you can separate them. Slouchy boyfriend size tee’s are comfy AND hip, and anything asymmetrical and one shouldered is hot.
5) Cargo pants- Cropped, rolled or long but in the color of the season- in army green. The new denim.
6) Floral dress- paired with the cropped leather jacket or denim coat it’s a play on tough/sweet. Also looks great with tights and booties right now!
7) Denim shirt- I can’t believe the chambray shirt is back, but it is and it’s BIG. Pair it with cargos, a print mini skirt or as a cover up at the beach.
8) Mini dress- Hemlines are incredibly short this season. But remember- the shorter, the looser it should be. Super short AND tight is too much. My rule- if you have to ask if you look too slutty, you do.
9) A “Go To” date top- I love this one- the slight tie dye print is a subtle take on the trend. Drapey but still hella sexy, this piece will be a staple. Would look great layered under a cardigan too for daytime!
10) Destroyed skinny jeans- I can’t quite do the super loose boyfriend jean look, so I prefer a beat up skinny jean.
11) Print mini skirt- killer with a loose denim shirt or slouchy oversize cropped tee/tank.
12) Tunic- I cannot stop wearing tunics, they are suck a happy essential for me. I’ve been eying this ikat one at Vivre for a year. I want it so badly!
13) Solid casual day dress- I adore this nude henley dress from Calypso. Top it off with a denim coat, strappy flat leather sandals and some long gold necklaces and you have a perfect daytime outfit.

I am surprised ( in a good way), by the fit and quality of Jcrew jeans. Comparable to Jbrand, for less. Love it.
    No patched jeans for you?!

    Erin,
We met at Jill’s bridal shower. I’m her old next door neighbor. I’m a personal shopper for J.Crew. Do you already work with one? Let me know if there’s anything you want! I do shop & share events where we can “Share” our discount! I love your choices (I bought all of your choices already!) Before you buy anything online, let me know, I can order for you and get those shipping charges waived! I can also get you to see items before they hit stores. We got some great new things in on Wednesday. There’s a new tunic/dress I think you’d love. Its not online or in catalogs yet though. Let me know! Talk soon! ~ Alli

  3. Great picks! I’m still debating whether I’ll be able to plunge back into denim shirt land.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks. The warmer weather put my in a shopping mood yesterday, and I just had to buy a shrunken denim jacket I saw at jcrew.

For the leather motorcycle jacket, I’ve had my eye on this one at Neiman Marcus, on clearance.
What do you think? On trend for spring? Thanks

i purchased the zebra mini two weeks ago… it is beyond adorable! looks great with slouchy booties and a vintage tee!

  6. Sarah says:

Great picks! I am also obsessed with tunics for spring/summer with white jeans (just got a great deal on a Tory Burch on ebay, actually!). Also agree about the striped tee and drapey cardigan.

  7. Kerri@TreschichLifestyle says:

Erin, I have purchased almost everything here……let me know if you see any great white bohemian style 3 quarter length tops….been on a mission!!!

  8. Leslie says:

Thank you for indulging my spring clothes obsession! That zebra-print mini belongs in my closet!

I agree with the poster who is also loving white cropped jeans with tunics. My twist is to add bangle bracelets, espadrilles and big sunglasses…my version of Jackie O. in Capri :)

  9. Angela says:

Erin, I so need you to come over and help me go through my closet to figure out what to wear, keep and get rid of. I’ve lost so much weight that half the stuff in there is too big. And I need to judiciously add a few new things to freshen up my look and also so that I’ll clothes that fit!

And I need to find a few ways to wear the amazing turquoise shrunken leather jacket I splurged on for Spring!

  10. Sarah W says:

  11. Shannon says:

Great list! I’d add some white jeans, because they’re my favorite Spring wardrobe staple with flat sandals. I can’t wait to see the accessories!

  12. Beth Gales says:

I definitely want to get a trench! But I just don’t think the short skirts will look right on me! Yikes…I’m getting old! Can’t wait to see the accessories! Pick some handmade from etsy! The buys are great and they are one of a kind compared to the big name stores!

Great advice! I’m definitely seeing the demin/chambray shirt in tons of magazines – but having worn them all the time in 7th and 8th grade, I’m not sure I can re-do the trend! I got my striped bateau tee from Target’s Rodarte collection – great one!
