As has been reported gossip blogs the world over, the March Architectural Digest features the lovely Jennifer Aniston on the cover and inside takes a tour of her renovated L.A. home. I finally found some photos online of it (with my ninja-like web surfing skills) and to be honest, I am surprised AND disappointed! This isn’t at all what I would picture her bachelorette pad to be- instead I think it looks like a BACHELOR pad (perhaps that’s the point? To not scare off men with copious amounts of femininity?) Quite the opposite to the lovely Colette’s single gal home we saw yesterday (to which there will be a follow up complete with sources, by the way! So glad you loved it as much as I did!)

I had fun pulling together what I personally imagine for Jen (since we’re tight and all). Something modern but with a more natural, light feel that references her devotion to yoga and love for the beach. What do you think?

I’m going to be a complete blog creeper and double comment today. I just found Alexa Chung’s “What I’m Wearing Today” blog through Vogue UK, and I thought you might be interested. I even spotted her wearing some Madewell. Hope you enjoy!

I totally agree! It looks like a bachelor pad, not to mention lacking any personal touches.
I like your version better. The architecture is stunning, which is why I suppose it’s featured in that particular publication. I think it’s a shame that her place is so dark and brooding. I would love to see her lose the lodge feel and incorporate a crisp palette (perhaps white, black, and kelly green or another bright, or even neutrals with pops of color) with some shine (crystal, stainless steel, etc.)
Funny, i hadn’t read your bost yet and I looked through the pictures and did not like her pad at all and thought to myself, I wouldnt want my house to look like that! then I scrolled back up and read what you had to say, couldn’t agree more!
Strange. I read that she describes the abode as like ” a big hug” – it doesn’t read that way AT ALL to me. A little too shagadelic, perhaps???
UGH! I think her house is a TOTAL disappointment! I like your version way more! What is she trying to say with her decor?
There are some interesting elements to her place. I don’t hate it. Although I like your suggestions for lightening things up.
I SO need to get you over to my place to help me make it not suck. Right now I hate it so!
I received this magazine the other day and was disappointed too. You hit it on the nose…it’s more like a bachelor pad than one for a sophisticated woman like Jennifer. And the selections you made are spot on for a woman like her.
Now I know why John Mayer hung around, it’s very sexy. I once read that single women should do their rooms in a style that will appeal to men.
Ugh, not feeling that space at all—it has so much texture and enough colour for me but I am completely underwhelmed, no joy, no personality—reads as just one uninspiring note.
I saw the mag today and thought the exact same thing. I would love that view though.
I like the architecture of the space, but the furnishings are so cold and hard. Not an ounce of softness or femininity in the place. It strikes me as very lonely too. Where are the family photos, the well-worn books, the things that add life to a home? I like your mood board much better.
I am also shocked to see her home! First of all, it looks like a hotel. Secondly it is way to impersonal and manly! Wow, would have never pictured this to be hers…maybe George Clooney’s or someone like him!
I like your “feminine touches”…she should have consulted with you!
This actually doesn’t surprise me one bit. Her style really isn’t feminine, at least to me. She’s sleek, sexy and put togethe…and at times rather bland. I couldn’t see her with the turquoise colored lamps or anything floral, nor zebra print. Her style is vanilla and so is her house :)
Love the views and the patio/pool area though!
Yay, you found photos…you are awesome. Its a sexy modern pad for sure, not very warm and kind of masculine yes, but amazing all the same. She should hire you to come in and warm the place up with some glam girly touches.
I agree, when I saw AD on newstands last week i took a peek and was totally disappointed. The space feels very stark and impersonal. My first thought was that the house looked more like a hotel. Though I guess I am not surprised since that probably feels more comfortable to her since that is her day=to-day reality.
Oh but I kind of liked it, mostly because of the architecture I guess. My house is the same stone walls, woody vaulted ceiling style with lots of picture windows thing going on, …. it looks very Austin, her house. That Austin stone is quarried here so you can’t hit a dead cat with out hitting something made out of it.
But, no, my house isn’t that big and fancy, but it is that same style (1968).
Austin limestone, to be exact…I guess I should have said.
But the decor in my house is a lot more eclectic and a bit more colorful.
I am a disorganized poster, am I not?
sigh.
I am so disapointed! In my head she would be much more at home in the white on white modern home at the end of this months AD
Girls…I think you’re disappointed in the decor because it isn’t you, or us, or Rachel. It is a reflection of Jennifer, who if you’ll be more observant next time you hear her in an interview, is NOT a particularly feminine woman. She would much rather be “one of the guys”…and always has.
the sectional? Where is that from??? I love it! Please do tell. I went on Polyvore and couldn’t find it.
Love the architecture; very mid-century modern. Not loving the furniture and decor, though. I like your take on the beachy/spa colors better.
Even if she wanted more streamlined or masculine, take a page from Cameron Diaz’ character’s LA home in The Holiday – it is a perfect balance!
I love the orange painting. Overall, Ilike that it’s not committed to an overly feminine vibe.
Masculine and Las Vegas in the 70′s…
I definitely agree! I was unimpressed with what I saw too…almost like she designed to fit the pages of AD rather than for herself? I definitely was expecting a more beachy vibe from her….it’s too dark to fit her personality. Can never make up my mind about that girl…I almost feel like a lot of the inspiration was leftover from her years with Brad. I love how you tried to lighten things up for her with your Polyvore round-up! Thanks for sharing.
Did anyone else notice the line “The bedroom originally had his and her bath” but she had his converted to a steam room or something. Is that sad? Or empowered?
hmm, I really liked this place, I wouldn’t have called it feminine, but I have a feeling that being in her industry, at her age (and seniority within her industry) she want’s a place like this, I thought I was very stylish, perhaps not how I’d live, but I can see her there, I’m assuming she likes !!! lol
Thank you for posting these pictures. I have been looking all over for the magazine and the pictures and it has proven to be impossible. Thanks you!
To each his,(or her) own. I for one LOVE the house! Yes it is a bit masculine, but that is what I am partial to; my wardrobe is very feminine, but crave masculine interiors, the balance works for me. I love the use of natural materials, and clean lines, but with at retro hollywood hills vibe, trés chic…I think that they nailed it! It is a tad bit to grande for my taste, but I love the cozy-dark feel none the less. Thanks for posting this photos!
Agreed. I def expected more light and airy not dark and somber. BACHELOR pad look for certain… no fun!
Not my style but I LOVE the view.
I love this house. I absolutely don’t get why everyone is being so hard on it. It’s beautiful and obviously personal to her.
