So, in true form, I hate everything I over-packed and none of it seems to be LA appropriate. In fact some crunchy hippie in Venice Beach yesterday actually laughed at me with his girlfriend in my DVF dress and wedges! I was fresh out of a meeting so a bit dressed up for Venice, but what’s with the judgment??? It’s DVF, you need to show some RESPECT, son!
So I put together some various LA outfits, from the flashy “club” looks to a low key daytime style. Maybe if I wore these I wouldn’t be the east coaster sticking out like a sore thumb. :)

The vintage lace top in the first vingette “Shopping in Santa Monica” is pretty fab and exactly the right for shopping in Santa Monica! I think I’m going to have to plunk down the cash for that one … Thanks for sharing! Don’t worry about the culture shock, it’s just as easy to spot the West Coasters on the East Coast.
Did I miss a post, why are you there… Do we see red carpet in your near future…
All are great, but beachside dinner is my favorite! Hope you are enjoying LA. :)
hehe.. welcome to CA! I love your outfits.. most days jeans, a graphic tee and sandals are all I need:-)
Well, like I said, I was there last weekend. We had lunch on Friday at the Ivy in Santa Monica and I felt great in your “Military Chic 2″ outfit – I wore a JCrew ivory ruffled tank with JBrand legging jeans, a military jacket from the Gap, the great scarf you showed from Miss Selfridge and my Frye Melissa boots. The next day while shopping in Manhattan Beach, I wore JCrew straight leg jeans with the same jacket, a nautical stripe boat neck top from Ann Taylor Loft and Tory Burch flats. At night for dinner, everything is still casual by the beach, so jeans, a camisole, a long ruffled Anthropologie sweater, (low) heels and a Tory Burch clutch were perfect. It is just so casual by the shore that jeans really are a must during the day. It does get cool sometimes during the day and always at night, so you need a jacket or a sweater. I love your “Beachside Dinner” outfit and that you dressed it down with the denim jacket. I’m lusting over the Tory Burch heels, but would never wear them because they are too high! Have a great rest of the weekend!!
Love the top in the first set. Happy Weekend!
I would take the beachside dinner outfit, a trip to LA, and a beachside dinner any day! But I’d probably throw a trip in In N Out burger in the mix.
Who cares about nobodies along Abbott Kinney!?!? Josh Brolin was totally checking you out on his way out of Primotivo! Gotta love that! Am so happy you are here in LA my darling. Love the looks.
Josh Brolin checking you out? Dang! We didn’t see anyone on our trip… You are perfect and BTW: don’t they know who YOU are????
Do I need to have a talk with Josh? Do I?
i am loving the lace shirt. o.m.g. i’m glad you are in our hood…i feel like i would be too beachy for the east coast and have a similar reaction. :) enjoy your time here!
jolene.

Gorgeous!! I love all of these!
Love the first look, amazing top!!
LOVING your LA looks! Hope you are having fun here!
haha, i’ve lived in LA for 3 years now and i still will sometimes make the mistake of walking out of the house looking like a vineyard vines ad… it’s just an east coast habit. i’ve toned it down though. cali is casual all the way. great outfits! ;-) hope you’re having fun!!
Can’t wait to wear some of this on the east coast if the snow ever stops! The accessories are especially sweet!
I understand. I live near Berkeley, and have been mocked for dressing my daughter in matching clothing. Regular, middle of the road play clothes, but matching. Which is, apparently, a sexist awful superficial thing to do. My bad.
Sometimes I dream about moving to somewhere where everyone is not dressed in fleece and clogs.
Love, love Beachside Dinner…Missoni will be forever…mixing with denim just great!
All 3 are fab, but I LOVE the first outfit! So chic and very “out and about LA”. Hope they help you fit in ;)
I’m heading out to California on vacation in June and I was wondering what to wear. I didn’t realize that it really was that laidback!
Love, love, love the first outfit!! (well all of them, really!) I’m reading L.A. Candy (lame, I know) and it’s got me lusting over Southern California! So jealous of you right now :)
PS. Your husband’s comment cracked me up! :) It’s awesome that he reads your blog
Love all three outfits although the first one is my favourite! I want that look… and I can also see myself doing it up as a “dancing queen”. Thanks for inspiring me. Had a baby 9 mos ago and finally getting my mojo back!
following this blog, good stuff!
