High Contrast

I really cannot believe it’s November already. Time is absolutely FLYING. Holiday decorations are going up at stores prematurely and my husband’s got X-mas carols on rotation on his iPod (he’s obsessed with X-mas).  The skies have been gloomy the past few days and I can’t help but be drawn to these high contrast pairings of deep dark colors with shots of bright white. It reminds me of the bleak white sky against dark branches of bare trees.

It’s not easy to create an interesting space using only black and white (or dark brown and white), but these rooms certainly dazzle my eyes!

Wow, I looove black & white – and those photos are really stunning!

  4. I’m always intrigued by this color combination because it is so easy to do it wrong and leave a room looking really cold. But this is a great collection of pictures!

  5. I love black and white spaces, but the images that I was most attracted to in this post were the ones with just a shot of color. I love the drama of a vase of red roses or a bright yellow lamp in a black and white room.

  11. I normally don’t like black and white rooms, but these are stunning! I especially love the third image with the crazy task lamp.

On another note, anyone know where I can purchase an antler?! Hah I know that’s a weird question and many people happen upon them on walks in the woods, but I don’t do a lot of woods walking these days. Any suggestions?

  12. Can’t get enough of the black and white color combination. It’s a classic, but when done correctly is oh so stunnning. The photos you’ve gathered are gorgeous – thanks for sharing!

Love these rooms….except for that zebra head on the wall which is atrocious!

  14. Erin says:

All of these spaces just ooze sophistication but are still inviting. Love it!

The House Beautiful kitchen (right image in 3rd picture) is actually a Benjamin Moore shade of blue (like a dark denim) and is absolutely ridiculously stunning. It was on the cover of the magazine and had me at HELLO. It’s now the color in my bedroom (combined with whites, dark browns, and an Iraqi carpet), and I’m SERIOUSLY debating adding it to the living room.

I love b&w rooms; they’re classics! These are some great examples. I particularly love the b&w greek key bench in the first picture. Swoon!

Love your hubs, too. Mine started rolling his eyes this weekend when I hit the Xmas playlist on my iPod. :-)
